NIT Trichy gets second woman Director

G Aghila, former Registrar In-Charge of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Puducherry, assumed charge as NIT Trichy Director on Thursday.

G Aghila has taken over as the new Director of National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy). Aghila, former Registrar In-Charge of NIT Puducherry, assumed charge as NIT Trichy Director on Thursday. She took over the charge from G Kannabiran, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Kannabiran was appointed as Director In-Charge of NIT Trichy after completion of the five-year tenure of Mini Shaji Thomas in November 2021. Thomas was appointed as the first woman Director of the institute in 2016. She has rejoined Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi. 

NIT Trichy welcomes new Director on Twitter

NIT Trichy took to Twitter to congratulate the new Director of the institute. It tweeted, “We are delighted to announce that Dr. G. Aghila is the new Director of NIT Tiruchirappalli, succeeding Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas to be the second woman Director in the history of NIT Trichy. @PIB_India @EduMinOfIndia @AICTE_INDIA @PMOIndia.” 

Aghila is the second woman Director of NIT Trichy after Mini Shaji Thomas. Earlier, Aghila was professor of computer science and engineering. A PhD holder from Anna University, Chennai, Aghila contributed significantly to the fields of block chain, big data analytics, ontology engineering, cheminformatics and artificial intelligence. While taking charge, Aghila said that her priority would be to make NIT Trichy more visible at national and international levels.
