NIT Trichy set to begin offline classes in phases

A batch of third-year BTech students have already reached the campus and undergoing the mandatory seven-day quarantine period, while the second and final batch of students will reach the campus on January 7 and 8.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli or NIT Trichy is set to resume offline classes in phases. As per a report published in The Hindu, a batch of third-year BTech students have already reached the campus and undergoing the mandatory seven-day quarantine period, while the second and final batch of students will reach the campus on January 7 and 8. The offline classes for the third-year students will begin on January 19, said the institute Director In-Charge G Kannabiran. 

PhD students have been attending offline classes since August, followed by arrival of MTech students and second-year BTech students, for whom offline classes will start on December 29. For final-year students, offline classes will begin during March-April keeping in mind the convenience of GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) aspirants, Kannabiran said.  

In any case, the portions are being completed through online classes. Even for the duration of quarantine, students are required to attend the online classes,” he said. Some buildings were being used as quarantine facility and students were being provided with food at their place of stay. 

“Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, which can happen effectively only on the campuses, are as much important for students,” Kannabiran said. The students who staying in hostels have been told strictly that they will have to undergo quarantine again if they step outside the campus. 

On the fifth day of the quarantine, RT PCR test is conducted, and after the students were found to test negative, they were sent to the regular hostels. “Total emphasis is being laid on students adhering to Standard Operating Practices (SOP)”, N Kumaresan, Dean (Students Welfare), said.
