SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam will be conducted from March 2 to 7 in online mode at the designated exam centres. The Staff Selection Commission introduced General Awareness in the CGL Tier 2 exam which has increased the importance of General Awareness in the SSC CGL exam. SSC CGL General Awareness Syllabus: The Staff Selection Commission will conduct the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam from February 2 to 7. The candidates are finding it difficult to prepare the SSC CGL General Awareness because of its syllabus. The Commission mentions very broad topics in the name of the general awareness syllabus. The following topics can be deduced from the official syllabus as mentioned in the official notification:

SSC CGL General Awareness: Current Affairs Topics

Current events or current affairs is the most dynamic part of the general awareness syllabus. The current affairs change and add up for preparation with each passing day. The candidates are required to update their current affairs daily because it changes with each day.

Today's current event becomes History tomorrow. The commission mentioned that the events occurring in the neighbouring countries can be asked about in the paper. The candidates should divide the current affairs syllabus into the following part to prepare this section in a better way.

The candidates should prepare the current affairs of the last six to nine months because the Commission can ask for anything from last year. It is seen that sometimes the Commission asks questions from over one-year-old events.

SSC CGL General Awareness: History Topics

The candidates need to prepare the History section because the Commission asks at least 3 to 7 questions from this section. The candidates find it difficult to prepare History because this section is very large and the candidates are required to learn the facts of History. The candidates can do the following division of the History section to prepare it in a better way:

  • Modern History & Indian National Movement

To simplify it further, the candidates must dilute the above broad topics into simpler ones.

Ancient History Topics

 The Commission asks two or three questions from the Ancient History section. The most common question asked in the SSC CGL exam are based on the architecture of historical monuments, their location, the emperors who build them and the like.

The above topics are not a complete list and the candidates can add other topics if they have completed the above list.

Medieval History Topics

  • The Commission asks only one or two questions from the Medieval History of India. The candidates can check below the list of topics for Medieval History

A: No, only Lucent General Knowledge book is not sufficient for the SSC CGL exam preparation. The candidates are suggested to prepare for the SSC CGL exam from the NCERT Books for each section. Q: How to start general awareness for SSC CGL?

A: The candidates should start preparing for the SSC CGL General Awareness section with the current affairs, newspaper and one of the static subject of General Knowledge which can be Economy, Polity or Geography. The candidates can also start with History if they have an interest in the subject. Cover the NCERT of the subject first. The NCERTs for the subject should be completed in two days. The NCERT will lay down the chronology and structure of the subject in the mind of candidate.

Q: Is GK repeated in SSC CGL?

A: The candidates must see the previous year question papers because though the questions do not repeat in the SSC CGL exam but the previous year questions can help in indentifying the most important topics for the exam. The candidates can eliminate the incorrect options in case they read and study the previous year's questions thoroughly. 

Q: Is 6 months current affairs enough for SSC?

A: No, the candidates must prepare the current affairs topics of atleast one year from the exam. Recently, we have seen that the Commission is askng the q uestions from last two year s current affairs.
