WBCS 2023 Age Limit and Eligibility: West Bengal Public Service Commission released the WBCS 2023 age limit and other eligibility conditions in the official notification released online on February 26. The WBCS 2023 age limit, educational qualification and other eligibility conditions were notified in the official notification. The WBCS 2023 applications were released online on February 28 and the last date to apply for the WBCS 2023 is March 21. The candidates will get twenty days' time to fill in the WBCS applications online. The Commission issued the WBCS 2023 notification online only. The Commission provides the opportunity to apply for the WBCS Group B service to the candidates who are not eligible to apply otherwise due to their age. The candidates should read and understand the WBCS eligibility conditions before filling out the WBCS applications online because, in the case of non-conformity to any of the eligibility criteria, the candidature of the candidates can be cancelled.

West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) conduct the WBCS exam every year to recruit candidates for the above-said services. The West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) is a combined name of government services divided into four groups. The topmost group of services is the WBCS Group A service.

WBCS Age Limit 2023

WBCS age limit is defined separately for all the groups of services. The age of the candidates is counted from January 1 of the year of the examination. It means that the age of the candidates will be counted from January 1, 2023, for the WBCS 2023 exam. The Group-wise WBCS age criteria are as follows :

The West Bengal Civil Service Exam is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for various posts under the state government, such as Deputy Superintendent. The eligibility criteria to apply for WBCS are as follows: 1. Nationality: The candidate must be Indian to apply for WBCS. The WBCS exam has no mandatory state domicile rule. 2. Age: For the West Bengal Police Service, the minimum age must be between 20 and 36. Other positions have a minimum age requirement of 21 to 36. 3. Education: The applicant must be a graduate of a recognised university to apply for WBCS. 4. Physical Standard: There is a minimum height requirement to apply for the West Bengal Police Service. Q:   How many marks are assigned to WBCS interview?

The WBCS interview, also known as the Personality Test, is assigned different marks based on the group of service. The marks allocated for the interview are as follows:

  • Group 'A' and 'B': 200 Marks
  • Group 'C': 150 Marks
  • Group 'D': 100 Marks

WBCS Age Limit for Group B Services

The WBCS group B service only includes the West Bengal Police Services (WBPS). The age criteria for WBCS Group B are as follows:

Lower Age Limit - 20 years

Upper Age limit - 36 years

The candidates whose age is not below 20 years and above 36 years can apply for the WBCS Group B Services i.e for the WBPS.

A candidate who was born not earlier than January 2, 1987, and not later than January 1, 2003, can apply for WBCS 2023 group B services.

Special mention is given to those candidates whose date of birth lies between January 1, 2002, & January 1, 2003 [i.e. whose age is between 20 & 21 years as of 01.01.2023] may apply for Group B only.

Q:   Which posts come under WBCS Group B Services?

A:

The candidates should note that only West Bengal Police Service is included in the Group B services of the state. Another important point is the age limit defined for the applications to this service is also different from other groups.

Q:   What minimum score is required to clear the WBPSC WBCS prelims exam?

A:
The WBCS Prelims exam is an objective exam which is conducted to recruit candidates for the State civil service exam. WBCS is considered one of the toughest exams in the state because of the expansion of its syllabus. There are no minimum marks required to clear the WBCS prelims exam. The passing of the candidate depends on the category cutoff of the prelim exam. The WBCS cutoff depends on the number of vacancies and the difficulty level of the question paper. Both of these components are different each year and hence the passing marks of the WBCS prelims exam are different. WBPSC released the category-wise cutoff with the result. The Commission has the discretion to fix qualifying marks in the WBCS prelims and main exam. These qualifying marks can be equal to or less than the cutoff marks arrived by the Commission. WBCS prelims 2021 cutoff for the general category was 121.67 marks.

Q:   Are the candidates of age between 20 and 21 eligible to appear in the WBCS exam?

A:
Yes, the candidates who are between 20 and 21 years of age are eligible to fill out the form for WBCS 2023 but only for the Group B services. Those candidates whose date of birth lies between January 1, 2002, and January 1, 2003 [I. e. whose age is between 20 and 21 years as of 01.01.2023] may apply for Group B posts only.

The state government of West Bengal holds the West Bengal Civil Service Exam to select officers for Groups A, B, C, and D. WBCS Age Limit for the Group D Services

The WBCS Group D services are the clerical positions in the state administrative machinery. The WBCS age criteria for Group D services are:

Lower Age Limit -21 years

Upper Age limit- 39 years

The candidate should be of age and should not be below 21 years and not over 39 years on the January 1st of the year of the examination (i.e. born not earlier than January 2, 1984, and not later than January 1, 2002).

WBCS Age limit relaxation

The WBPSC also provides age relaxation to candidates belonging to certain reserved categories. The age relaxation for the reserved categories is as follows.

In the case of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit is relaxable up to 45 years. S.C./S.T./B.C. candidates of other States shall be treated as General category candidates. Besides the educational and age limit criteria, there are certain physical requirements which are required for certain positions.

WBCS 2023 Educational Criteria

There is a common educational qualification required for the WBCS exam. The candidate must be a graduate from a recognised university with any discipline. The candidate must be able to read, speak and write Bengali. But this condition does not stand for the candidates whose mother tongue is Bengali.

WBCS 2023: Special Eligibility Requirement

For the WBCS Group B – West Bengal Police Service

The male candidate must be 165 centimetres or taller than that.

The female candidates must be 150 centimetres or taller than that.

There is a height relaxation provided to the candidates belonging to the Gorkhas, Garwalis and Assamese Tribals, etc. This height relaxation will be provided at the discretion of the WBPSC. The candidates belonging to this category must indicate his or her height at the appropriate place in the WBCS application form.

WBCS 2023: Assistant Canal Revenue Officer

The candidates recruited for this post will have to attain the tehsil and Zilla office on a regular basis. Their area of jurisdiction will comprise a large number of villages and they will have the cycle only for commutation purpose. They will also face the public to solve their problems.

WBCS 2023: West Bengal Junior Social Welfare Service

Candidates will be required to serve in the Homes for the Blind and/or Deaf and Dumb under the West Bengal Junior Social Welfare Service. The degree or diploma or certificate in the training of the Blind and/or Deaf and Dumb shall be an essential qualification for this service. Any person not possessing the above qualification may be appointed in these Homes on the condition that he/she will have to receive in-service training for teaching of the Blind and/or Deaf and Dumb. Male candidates will be unsuitable for the posts meant for institutions for females and female candidates unsuitable for the posts meant for institutions for males.  

West Bengal Subordinate Land Revenue Service, Grade - I

For the appointment to this post, good working knowledge of the Bengali Language is a must. it includes the written and spoken part of the language. (candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali shall be exempted from this requirement, but will be required to pass, within a period of two years a departmental examination in Bengali).

No., the West Bengal Public Service Commission is expected to release the WBCS 2024 notification soon on the official website. The Commission will also mention the WBCS application dates in the official notification. The WBCS 2024 exam is scheduled to be conducted on December 15, 2024.
