SEED Entrance Exam 2025—The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will close the SEED 2025 application forms on December 25, 2024; the direct link to apply is provided below.

The application form opened online on August 16, 2024.

SEED 2025 written exam will be held on January 12, 2025

The exam will be administered in remote-proctored mode and will include 60 questions. The test duration will be one hour.

SEED scores will be used to shortlist candidates for a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI). 

The FINAL merit list for SEED 2025 will be prepared based on the candidate's cumulative performance in the SEED 2025 written exam, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction.

SID will also conduct SEED 2025 mock tests on January 9-10, 2025.

Q:   When will the SEED 2025 written exam be conducted?

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will conduct the SEED 2025 written exam on January 12, 2025. The exam will be of 1 hour duration (to be conducted between 10 am to 4 pm).

The exam slot allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the admit card.

On exam day, the candidate has to be ready an hour so before the exam to ensure all pre-exam formalites are comleted on time. The SEED exam will be being conducted in an online proctored mode.

Q:   Can I use NIFT sample papers to prepare for SEED 2025 exam?

A:

NIFT is easily among the most important and difficult entrance exams in the country.

In comparision, SEED is relatively easier and has less competition. You can definitely use NIFT sample papers to prepare for SEED exam as well.

But make sure that you focus on topics that are also included in the SEED exam syllabus.

Q:   When will SEED 2025 application form open for M.Des?

A:

The application form of SEED 2025 is now OPEN for the M.Des program.

Candidates who met the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply from August 14 to December 25, 2025.

The application form has to be submitted online at sid.edu.in (application link also given on this page).

As part of the application filling process, the candidate has to get registered, fill in the form, upload documents, and pay the application fee.

The SID admission registration fee is Rs. 3250/- (Rs. 2250 for SEED & Rs. 1000 for SID)

What is SEED?

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), is a design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) and is the 1st stage of the two-step SID admission process.

Candidates who qualify in the SEED, which is a written exam, have to next appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round.

The merit list of SID will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the candidate in the written exam, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction. 

The SEED exam evaluates candidates on parameters like color, geometry, visual observations, general design awareness, creative thinking abilities, and awareness of Indian culture, craft, traditions, etc.

The Bachelor of Design (BDes) program offered specializations in disciplines such as Graphic Design (GD), Video Film Design (VFD), Animation Film Design (AFD), User Experience Design (UED), Product Design (PD), Interior Space Design (ISD), Fashion Design (FD) and Fashion Communication (FC).

Q:   Do I need an elementary drawing exam certificate for admission to the B.Des program through SEED 2025?

A:

Candidates are not required to submit an elementary drawing exam certificate for the Admission Procedure at SID. The candidate merely needs to meet the academic, qualifting exam, and age criteria. Eligible candidate next needs to appear in the SEED 2025. Those qualifying in the exam will have to next appear in a PRPI round. The final results would be prepared by giving weightage to the SEED 2025 exam and the PRPI.

As per the information given on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate has the discretion to decide whether the want to join any coaching institute of not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparatory classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

The candidate also has the option of downloading preparation materials online. But note that most practice materials are chargeable.

Q:   Are there any specific requirement for uploading portfolio for SEED PRPI?

A:

The digital portfolio should be a compilation of the best work of the candidate that showcases teh candidate’s skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. 

It is recommended to take good quality pictures of this work and compile them in a Power Point Presentation. Note that a maximum 15 slides are allowed. 

You need to then convert this into PDF (max size 5 MB). Try to be different and include unique and interesting things.

Q:   I have done foundation program/Diploma from another institute. Do I need to appear in SEED 2025 or I can get direct admission?

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to second year. So, candidates have to compulsory take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2025 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

SEED 2025 Preparation Tips

SEED is unlike other entrance exams in that it is conducted in a remote-proctored mode.

Here we discuss some easy-to-follow tips for SEED preparation. Read on. 

  • Make the SEED preparation strategy considering the syllabus. For instance, you need to allocate more time for difficult topics, spare time for revision, and include sample papers and mock tests.
  • Refer to the exam pattern and syllabus to prepare for the exam.
  • Pick the best design aptitude test books. The aim should be to score well in SEED
  • Focus on your time management skills and improve your problem-solving skills, especially for Mathematics and Science sections. Solve sample papers and take mock tests. 
  • When studying, make it a point to take notes. This will help you capture the important points and revise them later. You can take notes for all the sections. In the beginning, the task may look tiresome, but gradually you will become accustomed to it. Taking notes will also help you focus more on the subject at hand.
  • In the days leading up to the exam, don't pick up any new topics. Also, stay hydrated, do some light exercise, and be happy. The point is to stay in the present rather than planning too far ahead.

Q:   What is the structure of the SEED 2025 exam?

A:

The SEED 2025 written will be a 60 minutes exam. The exam will be conducted in multiple slots between 10 am and 4 pm.

The SEED question paper will include 60 questions.

The following types of questions will be asked during the exam - MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based and comprehension based.

Further, the paper will contain a mix of questions related to Visual Sensitivity and Judgement, Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning abilities, Problem Solving, Basic knowledge of Logic of Science and Mathematics, Art, Craft and Culture, Design and Environment.

The eligibility criteria for the M.Des program is prescribed by the Symbiosis Institute of Design.

Candidates seeking admission to the program need to meet the following conditions:

How to fill out the SEED 2025 application form

  • Get registered - In the registration form, enter details like email id and mobile number to get registered. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created.
  • Fill in the form - In this step, fill in your personal, academic, and contact details. Also, select the Test Centre preference.
  • Pay the application fee - After ensuring the application fee is complete in all respects, pay the exam fee of INR 3,250. The fee has to be paid online using net banking, credit, and debit cards.
  • Submit the application form - After ensuring that the application is complete in all respects, submit it.

Q:   What is the SEED 2025 eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Des program?

Candidate seeking admission to the M.Des programme need to meet the following criteria:

Q:   Where can I fill the SEED 2025 application form?

The application form for SEED 2025 will open in online mode at sid.edu.in. Hard copies of the application form will not be available.

Also, if the candidate somehow downloads the online application form, fills it, and then sends it to the admission office, such application will also not be accepted.

So, the form will has to be mandatorily filled online.

Q:   Can I apply for SEED 2025 offline?

The application form of SEED 2025 has to be filled online. There is no option to apply for the exam in offline mode. 

To fill out the form, go to the SID admission portals. Click on the registration link and get registered. Upon registration, an applicant account will be created. 

Next, log in to the portal complete the rest of the form, including uploading of documents and payment of fees.

Q:   What are key highlights of M.Des program offered through SEED 2025?

Here are some key points related to the M.Des program:

  • The first semester of the program will include a recap of basic design principles, knowledge and skills. You can choose an elective of your choice in the area of Innovation and UX/UI followed by your first project.
  • The second semester will teach skills and knowledge in domains like psychology, interaction design and prototyping followed by projects in the areas of information and affordance and user centered research and design.
  • The third semester will focus on methods of usability testing, writing of research papers, electives in the field of user experience and a self-led project aligned with user research and prototyping.
  • The final semester is devoted to the application of learned skills and knowledge into a self-initiated or industry-based project oriented to addressing real world challenges in the field of user experience design.

SEED Eligibility Criteria 2025

Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the eligibility criteria of SEED 2025 for admission to the B.Des program. The candidate must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria because otherwise the candidate can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

SEED Eligibility Criteria 2025

  • Cleared Class 12 (from any stream; e.g.: Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent (Or)
  • Cleared 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).

Aspirants who are appearing for their final exams in the 10+2 or 10+3 diploma programs exam pattern also meet the SEED 2025 eligibility criteria on the condition that their final exam results are declared by June of the admission year.

Note: Any candidate who fails in his/her Class 12 examination but later appears for and clears the immediate compartmental examination which is held in the same year, in their first attempt, is eligible for provisional admissions at SID.

Q:   Which is better - SEED or NIFT?

A:

If you are seeking admission to the B.Des program, you can opt for SEED and NIFT.

However, NIFT is the preeminent design entrance exam in the country, rivaled only by the NID DAT and UCEED. Also, NIFTs, usually, the older ones are ranked among the top design colleges in the country.

So, the NIFTs should be your first preference. Keep SEED as a back-up option.

Note that the NIFT 2025 application form is expected to START in December 2024.

SEED Exam Pattern 2025

As per the official website, the candidates has to appear for the SEED exam and those qualifying the exam will be shortlisted for portfolio review and personal interaction rounds. The exam pattern for SEED 2025 will be such that aspirants has to attempt 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes.

The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension-based. After qualifying SEED candidates will have to appear for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction Round. The portfolios of candidates should fulfill the requirements set by the institute. However, some conditions are given below:

  • Sketches, mixed-media illustrations, and digital work
  • Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles
  • Photography
  • 3D objects like sculptures, fabric products, gadgets, art-inspired products, etc.

Q:   How should I prepare the portfolio for SEED 2025?

A:

Ideally, a digital portfolio should be a compilation of the best works showcasing the candidate's skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. One must make sure to include the work he/ she is the proudest of. Try to be different and include unique and interesting things. Note that if the admission committee feels that any unfair means was adopted in the making of your portfolio, the candidature of the candidfate may be cancelled. The maximum size of the portfolio should be 5 MB. Click good quality pictures of these and compile them in a Power Point Presentation of maximum 15 slides.

SEED 2025 Syllabus

The SEED 2025 qustion paper will include questions the following topics - Visualisation, Observational, Perceptual & Reasoning Abilities, Creative & Problem-Solving Abilities, and Application of Basic Knowledge of Science & Mathematics.

Given the nature and difficulty level of the questions asked, the candidate is advised to start their preparation in advance, say, around six months or so before the exam.

As part of the exam preparation, the candidate should get detailed information about the SEED 2025 syllabus and prepare for the exam accordingly. The SEED exam will be a 60 minutes exam and include 60 questions. The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension-based.

The candidate must ensure that they complete the entire syllabus to get a good score in SEED 2025.

Note if you start early, you will be in a better position to complete all the topics included in the syllabus.

That being said SID reserves the right to make any changes to the syllabus keeping in the mind the changing dynamics of design as an academic discipline. SEED Admission Process 2025

Admission to the B.Des course at the Symbiosis Institute of Design will be conducted in the following sequence.

  • Apply for SEED 2025: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria have to fill out the form before the last date. As part of the application process, the candidate will have to get registered, fill in all essential information, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
  • Download the Admit Card: Successfully registered candidates can download admit cards from the SID admission portal. On exam day, arrive at the exam center with the admit card and a valid photo ID proof. The admit card will contain details like the roll number of the candidate, the date and time of the exam, and exam guidelines.
  • Appear in the SEED 2025 Exam: The entrance exam will be conducted in online, in remote-proctored mode, and include objective-type questions. 
  • Shortlisting of candidates for SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction - The result of the SEED written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the PRPI round. As part of the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round, the candidate will have to upload a portfolio and PRPI task and participate in a personal interaction round.
  • Declaration of Result - The result-cum-final merit list will be prepared by giving weightage to SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction rounds.  
  • Counseling and seat allotment - The allotment of seats will be based on the SEED 2025 merit rank of the candidate. Such candidates who have been allotted seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee and confirm their admission. If payment is not done, the allotment will be canceled.

Q:   What is the admission process of SEED 2025?

A:

Admission to the B.Desprogrammeoffered by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will be in the following sequence:

  1. Filling of online application - Eligible candidates need to fill out the SEED 2025 application form before the last date.

  2. Appear in SEED 2025 exam - The candidate has to download the admit card and appear in the SEED 2025 entrance exam on the designed day.

  3. Declaration of results and shortlist - The results will be declared around the 4th week of January, followed by the released of shortlist for PRPI.

Q:   What is the total seat intake for the B.Des programme through SEED 2025?

A:

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. The candidate may note that the seat intake is however subject to approval from SIU. There is also reservation of seats for SC, ST, and Differently Abled candidates.

The B.Des programme is available in four specialisations - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

Q:   Which is more difficult - SEED or NIFT?

A:

NIFT is attempted by some 50,000 candidates every year and is considered the toughest entrance exams in the country, along with NID and UCEED.

In comparision, SEED is less competitive.

So, you have better chance of admission through SEED.

Q:   Will SEED 2025 exam be conducted in center-based mode?

The SEED 2025 exam will be administered in remote-proctored mode.

SEED Mock Test 2025

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will conduct mock tests for SEED 2025 a few days before the exam.

In the previous edition of the exam, TWO mock tests were conducted. 

The mocks will be held online and can be taken by the candidate to prepare for the exam. Mock tests are an important part of exam preparation because they help in improving time management skills and in understanding the structure of the question paper.

Apart from that, practicing mock tests also gives the real idea of the exam, which helps in boosting confidence.

SEED Result 2025

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will declare the results of the SEED 2025 written exam within a few days of the conduct of the exam. The result will be released online at the admission portal of the institute.

Shortlisting of candidates for PRPI 

The results of the written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round.

SEED 2024 Admit Card

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the admit card of SEED 2025 for the written exams tentatvely in the 1st week of January 2025.

The admit card will carry details like the candidate's name, roll number, date and time of the SEED 2025 exam, and exam guidelines. Given the SEED 2025 exam will be administered in a remote-proctored mode, the admit card will not contain any details about the exam center. 

Note that the PRPI admit card will be released separately. Also, it will be released only for shortlisted candidates.
