Annamalai University Highlights 2024
Annamalai University is ranked 27 by NIRF 2024 for Pharmacy, 151-200 by NIRF 2024 under the Engineering category, and 101-150 by NIRF 2024 under the University category. Globally, the university is ranked 166 by the QS Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia category 2024 and 551-600 by the QS Asian University Rankings 2024. Annamalai University Chidambaram was established in 1929 as per Annamalai University Act 1928 and is accredited with A+ Grade by NAAC.
Annamalai University Chidambaram, through 49 departments and 48 affiliated colleges, offers UG, PG, value-added courses, certificates, and various other courses to students. These courses are provided across the Botany, Arts, Science, and various other streams. The university is approved by AICTE, and some of the courses are approved by MCI. The university also provides distance education to students through the Directorate of Distance Education. Annamalai University Distance Education is provided in various specialisations.
Annamalai University also offers more than 500 courses through distance education. Annamalai University admissions are both merit and entrance-based. Annamalai University admissions are based on merit through TANCET MBA, and NEET PG scores for admission to courses such as BE, ME/ MTech, MBA, MA, MBBS, and BDS. Annamalai University also conducts its own entrance examination for admission to the various pharmacy and PhD programmes.

Annamalai University Chidambaram History:
- One of the oldest established universities in South India spread over 1000 acres, came into existence on January 1, 1929.
- It was founded by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, a philanthropist and visionary.
- It was founded with the sole purpose of promoting theTamil Language and Literature for which the founder united three already established institutions.
- In the year 1928, Rajah Sir S. RM. Annamalai Chettiar handed over three of his founded institutions (in the early 1920s), Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College to make a University.
