Q:   Is Assam University good for M.A.?

    A:
    {Source: M.A. students & alumni}

Assam University offers a Master's degree programme in Manipuri Language and Literature, which is a unique course that focuses on the language, literature, history, and culture of Manipur. Here's what past students and alumni have said about their experience:

    Pros:

    * Good faculty: The professors are knowledgeable and passionate about their subject, making classes engaging and informative.
    * Relevant curriculum: The course covers a wide range of topics related to Manipuri language, literature, history, and culture, providing a solid foundation for research, teaching, and cultural preservation.
    * Well-maintained infrastructure: The university has modern classrooms, laboratories, and recreational facilities, ensuring a conducive environment for learning.
    * Placements: While the placement record may not be outstanding, some students have secured jobs in government organizations, educational institutions, and media outlets.

    Cons:

    * Limited placement opportunities: Companies rarely visit the campus for recruitment, and students may need to rely on their own efforts to secure a job.
    * Low stipend for interns: Internships are available, but the stipend is relatively low (Rs. 8,000 - Rs. 10,000 per month).
    * Older hostels: The hostels could use renovation, according to some students.
    * Food quality issues: Some students reported inconsistent food quality in the mess.

    Overall Assessment:
While Assam University's M.A. programme in Manipuri Language and Literature has its strengths, such as good faculty and infrastructure, the lack of placement opportunities and low stipend for interns may deter some students. However, for those interested in pursuing a career in academia, research, or cultural preservation, this programme could still be a viable option.

Recommendation: For prospective students considering Assam University's M.A. programme in Manipuri Language and Literature, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully. If you're willing to take initiative to secure a job or pursue further education, this programme could be a good fit.

    M.A. in Sociology - Batch of 2027

    5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall best university for M.A. in Sociology course.
Placements: In our course, about 60% of the students were placed. The payment was satisfactory. The prizes were all the same; therefore, in my view, they were equal. Students are offered positions with the state government, the sociology department, and others. Of the students in our course, about 55% were able to secure internships. Market research analyst, community development executive, and other high-level positions are among them.
Infrastructure: Everything in our department is there, and not only is one thing labs, but the supply chain is inefficient. The main problem of our department is the problem of drinking water. Hostels are provided for each student and are available only to those with certificates. Food quantities are poor, medical facilities are nothing, but infrastructure such as restaurants, sports, and theater are all lacking.
Faculty: They were knowledgeable, capable, and helpful. The quality of instruction was good. The course material is suitable. It gets pupils ready for the workforce. It improves students' capacity for research, their ability to teach, and our general understanding. Exams for the semester are a little challenging. Approximately 78% of people pass.

M.A. in Political Science - Batch of 2023
    5
    5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall, the best university for M.A. in Political Science Course.
Placements: 60% of our senior batch and 70% of our most recent batch have secured placements. The top recruitment agencies are The Hindu, NDTV, Times of India, CNN, NITI Aayog, etc. The highest salary is 25 LPA. The minimum salary is 10 LPA. The average salary is 17 LPA. Top roles offered are Policy Analyst, Legislative assistant, etc. 65% students got internship opportunities from our batch.
Infrastructure: The provided hostel was not very good; it was relatively ancient and ill-maintained. Additionally, the quality of the food was not very good, although it depends on the palate. Political and social science had its own department, and the library held all the materials needed for this course.
Faculty: The instructors are highly skilled and knowledgeable in their fields. The instructors are supportive and offer career and future guidance to the students. Students graduate from this course with a fair understanding of the industry and are prepared for the workforce. Exams for the semester are fairly challenging. It has a 72% pass rate.

    Limited internship opportunities are available.
Placements: The placement rate has remained constant at 60%, with students fortunate enough to secure positions in reputable companies like Infosys, Wipro, and TCs. Additionally, several commendable government agencies participate in the placement season and recruit a substantial number of students.
Infrastructure: The food quality in the hostel is generally average. On certain weekdays, approximately 90% of the students opt for meals outside, often resorting to Maggi. Apart from the food, the hostel provides comfortable accommodations with attached washrooms.
Faculty: The curriculum endeavors to encompass Manipur language, literature, history, and culture. Although this might not directly contribute to the placement process or a specific job, it lays a robust foundation for research, teaching, and cultural preservation, particularly in the realm of Manipur language.

The teachers are helpful in nature.
Placements: The companies offer a maximum package of approximately Rs 5,00,000 per annum for this course, while the average package is around Rs 3,50,000 per annum. Unfortunately, the college does not provide an internship program.
Infrastructure: A wide range of games are offered to students on campus, including cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, and more. Students have the opportunity to play these games on campus. Additionally, there is a Wi-Fi facility provided for students on campus.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and guide the students for their future as well as for their careers. The exams are held semester-wise as well as mid-semester-wise. This course makes the students industry-ready as well as gives a fair overview of the industry.

Great curriculum, but the internship experience is the worst.
Placements: The placement is really bad. There is no help available for internships; only a handful of students can secure one. This situation also applies to placements. The college doesn't prioritize the placement process and doesn't actively pursue new companies or encourage them to visit.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good. We have a decent class setup with everything arranged to ensure functional classrooms. The classrooms and restrooms are cleaned daily. Additionally, our hostel provides facilities like washing machines for laundry, AC, and a mess.
Faculty: The faculty members and curriculum are excellent. The curriculum is designed to enable students to grasp the core of Manipur language and literature. Many students, after completing this program, successfully crack government exams and secure good placements later on.

A very good, nice, fresh, and airy location.
Placements: The overall placement rate for the Masters course at Assam University is between 40 to 50%. Generally, students focus on securing government job options. Aside from that, roles in teaching, research, translation, journalism, and cultural administration are offered.
Infrastructure: An on-campus hostel is available. Near the hostel, separate accommodations are provided for girls and boys, while the mess facility is co-ed. There are various sports grounds for outdoor games such as badminton, basketball, and cricket, with various tournaments taking place regularly.
Faculty: The Department of Manipur boasts well-experienced, qualified, and knowledgeable faculty members who specialize in linguistic, literature, and cultural studies. Students thoroughly enjoy the lectures due to the effective delivery and the relevance of the content.
