M.Sc. in Life Science & Bioinformatics - Batch of 2025
    4.6

Assam University: A central university with excellent opportunities.
Placements: There are 63 students in my class. The average package is around INR 40,000, mostly in the medical and agricultural fields. Out of the batch, 5 to 10 students successfully crack CSIR NET. Field trips are organized, which are useful for exploring various fields and gaining hands-on experience.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available, but labs are average. Classrooms are good and equipped with AC. There is a central library and departmental libraries. The hostel quality is good, with free Wi-Fi. Food in the mess is average. Medical facilities are provided, and sports activities are frequently organized. The campus has two grounds for sports and games.
Faculty: The faculty members are helpful, with some being IITians and researchers. Two professors are recognized among the world’s top 2% of scientists. The curriculum is highly relevant to CSIR NET, making it easier for students to crack the exam. The coursework is not too difficult, with a pass percentage of 95%. I secured 71% in the first two semesters.
Other: I chose this course because I love its curriculum strategy, which aligns well with the CSIR NET syllabus. To improve, adding more topics related to personal skills would be beneficial.

Improvements Needed in Infrastructure and Placement.
Placements: Companies such as Capgemini and Deloitte are frequent visitors for recruitment and also offer limited internship opportunities. The placement rate stands at around 60%, with the highest package offered being 10 LPA.
Infrastructure: There are a sufficient number of classrooms for various electives and batches, and the classroom size is decent. CCTV cameras are in place for security purposes. However, the labs could be improved, as there is a lack of sufficient equipment. Additionally, the medical assistance facility might need enhancement.
Faculty: The difficulty of exams depends on the semesters, the choice of electives, and, to some extent, the professors. While the professors are helpful and nice, they tend to be strict when it comes to exams and future planning. The curriculum is good and sufficient for physics.

Infrastructure is the only lacking aspect.
Placements: Historical data on placements in the past suggest that the placement rate for students is approximately around 50%. Most of our alumni are at various universities and research institutions, where they work as either faculty members or researchers.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure for the teaching part is well-designed, so students are unlikely to face any problems in the department. However, when it comes to hostel and recreation area facilities, there are only limited options available for students.
Faculty: The faculty members are welcoming, and they play a significant role in selecting students. They choose a good bunch of students and also create a healthy, peer-competitive environment that encourages us to take more initiative and strive for excellence.
