CMI BSc Exam Pattern 2025: Know Marking Scheme & Exam Duration

Admission through the CMI Entrance Exam will be made to the following programmes in 2024–25.

• BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics and Computer Science 
• BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics and Physics 
• MSc in Mathematics.
• MSc in Computer Science.
• MSc in Data Science.
• PhD in Mathematics.
• PhD in Computer Science.
• PhD in Physics (For PhD in Physics, candidates should write the Joint Entrance Screening Test)

Chennai Mathematical Institute is expected to release the CMI Entrance exam notification for the academic session 2025-2026 in the fourth week of February 2025. Candidates who wish to get admission in the BSc, MSc degree programmes offered by the Chennai Mathematical Institute will be able to fill out the application form in the first week of March 2025, tentatively.

The announcement on the official website contains all important information about the exam, including the eligibility criteria, syllabus, exam pattern, exam dates, and application process. The examination will be conducted for eight degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) programmes.

Below are the eligibility criteria for the courses offered by CMI Entrance Exam:

• BSc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Computer Science: 12th standard or equivalent.
• BSc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Physics: 12th standard or equivalent.
• MSc. in Mathematics: Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a strong background in mathematics.
• MSc. in Computer Science: Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a strong background in computer science.
• MSc. in Data Science: Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, …) with a background in mathematics/statistics/computer science.
• PhD. in Mathematics: B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. (Math)/M.Sc. (Math).
• PhD. in Computer Science: B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc. (C.S.)/M.C.A.
• PhD. in Physics: M.Sc. (Physics).

CMI Entrance Exam 2025 for the academic cycle 2025-2026 will be held in the third week of May 2025, tentatively. As the exam notictaion and schedule is yet to be announced by the exam conducting authority, candidates can expect the CMI Entrance Exam 2025 shift timings to be remained same as of previous year.

The CMI Entrance Exam 2025 marking scheme for part A is as follows:

• In section A there will be 10 questions asked by the examination conducting body. The questions will be asked in the MCQ format. Four marks will be alloted for every correct answer and 1 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer marked by the tset takers in the examination. 

As per the previous year trends the Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) typically conducts its entrance exam once a year. The entrance exam for various programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses, was usually held annually. However, please keep in mind that CMI's admission policies and examination schedules may change over time, so it's essential to check the official CMI website or contact the institute directly to verify the most up-to-date information regarding the frequency of the entrance exams for the specific programme you are interested in. For all the courses available at Chennai Mathematical Institute, before appearing in the examination candidates need to check the below mentioned exam pattern for Section B:

• In section B, there will be 6 questions asked by the exam conducting body. The questions will be in the subjective format. Candidates need to exaplain the answers with the logical reasoning. The toatl marks awarded for the 6 questions will be 80 marks. 

Candidates preparing for CMI Entrance Exam 2025, must be aware that in order to get admissions in the Chennai Matgematical Institute one need to score good in the Section A of CMI Entrance Examination.

The Section A is considered to be quligying based as one need to score atleast 24 marks in the Section A of the CMI Entarnce Examination 2025. Section A will have 10 MCQ questions of 40 marks. In order to get their Section B evaluated in the CMI Entrance Exam, candidates need to score a minimum of 24 marks in the Section A.

CMI Entrance Exam 2025 will be conducted for admsisions to the BSc, MSc and Integrated PhD progarmmes in Mathematics, Data Science and Computer Science courses. In the CMI Entrance Exam 2025 candidates aptitutde and domain knowledge will be evaluated in the form MCQ and Subjective type questions. 

Section B of CMI entarnce exam 2025 will have subjection type of questions where candidates need to answer the questions with all the logical reasoning. Candidates are exempted to have 2 hours of duration to answer the Section B.
