Q:   Is MCA at IGNOU a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: MCA students & alumni}

Here's a summary of the feedback from students and alumni:

    Pros:

    * Good faculty members who are knowledgeable and supportive
    * Relevant course curriculum that prepares students for the industry
    * Availability of computer labs and libraries
    * Opportunities for self-study and practice
    * Access to Wi-Fi and other amenities on campus

    Cons:

    * Limited placement opportunities, especially for MCA students
    * No regular classes or frequent interaction with faculty members
    * Self-paced learning requires additional effort and motivation
    * Some faculty members may prioritize research over teaching
    * Limited availability of hostels and poor living conditions

    Placement scenario:

    * Campus placements are scarce, and few companies visit for recruitment
    * Salary packages are relatively low, ranging from 1-3 LPA
    * Students often rely on external coaching or self-learning to supplement their education
    * Few students manage to secure internships or jobs despite completing their degree

Based on these points, while IGNOU offers a decent educational experience, the MCA programme faces limitations in terms of placement opportunities and employment prospects. Students pursuing this course should be prepared to invest extra time and effort in seeking alternative learning resources, networking, and building their professional portfolio to enhance their employability. Ultimately, whether MCA at IGNOU is a "good" choice depends on individual goals, preferences, and circumstances.

Placement Cell for MCA at IGNOU

The placement cell at IGNOU plays a significant role in assisting MCA students in securing employment after completing their degree. Here's how:

    * Training and Preparation: The placement cell provides training and preparation sessions for final-year students to prepare them for campus interviews. These sessions cover essential skills such as resume building, mock interviews, and aptitude tests.

    * Campus Placements: Top companies like TCS, Wipro, HCL, and Infosys visit the campus for recruitment drives, offering job opportunities to eligible students.

    * Role-based Placement Assistance: The placement cell assists students in finding jobs matching their interests, skills, and qualifications, depending on their experience levels.

Note: While the placement cell may not guarantee job offers, it provides necessary guidance and support to increase students' chances of getting hired.

A review of IGNOU - Indira Gandhi National Open University.
Placements: MCA 3rd semester students are eligible for campus placements. However, there are limited opportunities, and not many companies participate, selecting a small number of students. The package generally ranges from 3 to 8 LPA. The percentage of students selected depends on the company, with some taking 60% while others take 70%. After completing the degree, all students plan for jobs and placements.
Infrastructure: I rented a PG 2 km away from the college, which was affordable and managed by a family with excellent manners, providing a homely atmosphere. My PG charges Rs. 3700,, inclusive of rent, food, room, and other facilities. The PG is well-maintained and highly hygienic. Hostel Fee: INR 60000 per year.
Faculty: Having completed my graduation in Bachelors in Computer Application, I aimed to enter the technical field, leading me to choose MCA. A senior recommended the NIT college entrance exam. There is adequate faculty for every course, ensuring quality education. The faculty members are highly qualified and knowledgeable in their respective fields. Each semester consists of two exams—one for the term and one for the end term. The exam difficulty level is moderate, and the faculty prepares students for what they need to write on the paper. Class size: 67 Course fee: INR 60000 per year.

I will suggest to not go for this college.
Placements: The college does not provide placements. The college is not responsible for placements of students. It is an open learning institute. You can take subjects according to your desires. So don't think about placement here. It is just a time wastage. It is better to study at home.
Infrastructure: IGNOU allotted me Deshbandhu college. Infrastructure of the college is so good. It is above average. Desks are nice and comfortable. Rooms are completely air conditioned. So you have to just enjoy the infrastructure. There is no hostel here.
Faculty: The faculty are so good. They are very supportive and genuine. They are educated from top class universities like Oxford, and MIT. They host our classes. They are so helpful.

I am satisfied with its faculty members but not satisfied with examiners.
Placements: From our batch, most of the students are joined MNC. Most of the students find their jobs, and most of the students join coding classes. They get placements from that coaching and many times IGNOU offered placements but I do not attend any placements seminar because I love Java programming that is not related to me when they offered me jobs.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good in this college. The computer class is great because all the computers are in running state and in every system have every coding software they run very smoothly. The environment of our classroom is very good, and our class is fully air-conditioned.
Faculty: Faculty members are great in this college. All of the teachers are helpful and they always help with any complex question. Our course is demanded in the IT industry, because everything is digitalized now. But our exam system is stuff and maximum passing students want 40, but it is not easy.
Other: I opted for this course, because I love programming and coding.

Students can choose this college for better knowledge with low fee structure.
Placements: IGNOU had its own campus placements center, located at its New Delhi headquarter office. The role for placements depends on the experience and for the level of students were suitable. The college provides the best, rest depends on the performance of the students. Odisha trains the final year students for the campus drive. They teach students about how to attend the interview and how to clear the aptitude test. Top companies like TCS, Wipro, HCL, Infosys, etc., visit for campus placements.
Infrastructure: The government had made a heavy investment into developing the acres of the campus of IGNOU, to facilitate modern education. This university had every possible facility which could be accessed on the campus itself. Laboratories and classrooms were available with good infrastructure. The environment of classrooms were also good. The classroom had good Wi-Fi connectivity.
Faculty: Faculty members were knowledgeable about their subjects. I like the teaching quality because they always give practice examples. The course curriculum was relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. In one line IGNOU had very knowledgeable faculty members. The exams were average and around 70% of students for success in their exam.

Indira Gandhi National open University is good for those who are willing to learn by yourself .
Placements: After completing master in computer applications from Indira Gandhi National Open University I got 65 percentage then after I had applied in many companies, although they didn't provide any proper placement as its a distance learning but even after that I am able to achieve one.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of the Indira Gandhi National open University is not so very good although its an distance learning some of the examples of bad infrastructure are books delivery usually books material delivered to us even after our exams or sometimes when exams are on going.
Faculty: In Indira Gandhi National open University teachers are very helpful and qualified some of the professors are very knowledgeable they almost every time support us Always told us how to learn how to implement things that's even after as its an distance learning.

I am absolutely dissatisfied with the way of providing marks in examinations.
Placements: There are no placements for BCA and MCA students in IGNOU. Whenever I see the notice, I get to know that companies hire only B.Com and M.Com students. I have not seen any student got hired as an intern from BCA or MCA in the last 5 years.
Infrastructure: As it is an open learning university, there are only study centres which are fine but not much good. The infrastructure is not much good here. As we need to do coding, but all the computers are of very old specifications in the computer lab.
Faculty: In MCA, a single faculty member teaches us 2-3 different subjects. That teacher can't even teach us one subject efficiently. So, we need to take coaching from other sources. Some study centres provide paid coaching, but the teachers were the same.
Other: The way of providing marks in an examination is the worst I have ever seen. If you wrote for 80 marks out of 100 marks in an exam, they would give you only 30-33 marks, but passing marks are 40. When you opt for revaluation by paying Rs. 700 for every subject, then they increase the marks to above 40.
