IGNOU PhD Admission 2023
At doctoral level, IGNOU offers PhD programme across 42 specialisations. The minimum duration for PhD is three years and the maximum is six years. In case of PhD, candidates with MPhil degree (along with coursework and dissertation) or those who have cleared NET (conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR) or any other equivalent examination will be exempted from appearing in the entrance test. The various specializations and detailed admission criteria of this course is mentioned below:

Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must have a master’s degree from a recognised university in fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time with at least 55% aggregate (50% for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and differently-abled and other categories of candidates)
- Qualifies in the entrance examination conducted by IGNOU at the national-level

IGNOU MPhil Admission 2023
In addition to PhD, the University also offers a one-year MPhil programme (maximum duration is two years) across 11 specialisations. Candidates seeking admission are required to qualify the entrance exam conducted by the University at national level. The course fee for all these specialisations is Rs 12,600.
IMPORTANT MPhil has been discontinued as part of the National Education Policy (NEP), which was unveiled by the Modi government in August 2020. However, as per the details mentioned on the official website of IGNOU, admission details regarding MPhil are mentioned below. |
MPhil Eligibility
- For all specialisations: Candidates must have a master’s degree from a recognised university in fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time with at least 55% aggregate (50% for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and differently-abled and other categories of candidates). They must also qualify the entrance examination conducted by IGNOU at the national level
- For Journalism and Mass Communication: A PG degree in Communication or related stream (Social Sciences and Humanities with a demonstrated interest in the Communication and Media Research) with a minimum of 55% aggregate

The application process for PhD and MPhil at IGNOU is completely online. Students willing to apply must visit the official website. A step-by-step process of IGNOU application is as follows:
Step 1:Â Visit the official website of IGNOU. Click on 'Register Online and then on 'Fresh Admission'.
Step 2:Â In the next window, select ' Click here for New Registration'.
Step 3:Â Register online by adding all the required details.Â
Step 4:Â Log in using the credentials created during the registration process, fill out the form, pay the application fee and submit it.Â
