Q:   I am getting IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay for Chemical and IIT Gandhinagar for CSE. What should I opt for?

A:

JEE Advanced cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 1. For IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay, the Round 1 cutoff for Chemical Engineering were 2207 and 2507, respectively for the General AI category candidates. For IIT Gandhinagar, the Round 1 cutoff for CSE was 1576. So, to answer your question, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are always a good options as compared to IIT Gandhinagar based on their NIRF ranking. Good college with best campus life.
Placements: For placements of my batch, only about 40-45% of the people in my course are placed. The highest package would be ~50LPA the lowest would be ~8-9LPA and the average around 10LPA. Top recruiting companies are IT and top roles are IT/Analytics or further research prospects. The majority got internships in my course and some did research projects in mechanics.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the department is very well maintained with the lab equipment being up-to-date and top notch. The department is equipped with all the latest technology. The hostels are as much as you can expect a hostel to be. Basic amenities are provided but you can't expect it to be very lavish. The hostel serves the purpose of living a basic life.
Faculty: The teachers in my department were very passionate about the course and also very knowledgeable. All the professors were Ph.D. qualified and knew their stuff. The course curriculum was also relevant as it combined both mechanics with the current ML part making students industry-ready. The semester exams were not easy I’d say but the pass percentage was 30% which was pretty doable.

Absolutely great college with amazing peers and faculty support, IIT Delhi.
Placements: Around 70-80% of students are placed by the end of the 4th year. The top students in CSE, MnC, and Electrical departments get high-paying jobs in top tech companies, FAANG companies, international banks like JPMC, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Barclays, product-based companies like Flipkart and Myntra, and HFT firms like Quadeye, Alphabrep, Citadel, Jane Street, etc. Students from all branches are allowed for placements in top tech companies as well as consulting companies like McKinsey, BCG, and KPMG. The highest package is around 2-3 crores per annum, mostly secured by top students from the CSE department.
Infrastructure: High-speed Wi-Fi is available in hostels, classrooms, and libraries. Classrooms have a huge capacity for hundreds of students, have video projectors, and centralized temperature control. Libraries have lots and lots of books on all topics, written by famous authors from almost every era. Hostels are decent; most of them are quite old, with only Girnar, Udaigiri, Dronagiri, and Saptagiri being the newest hostels, and those are also a decade old. Rooms can be double, triple, or single-sharing, depending on the year. Mess food is decent and varies from hostel to hostel, and all hostels have games and gym facilities.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, with most of them having PhDs from top foreign universities. The teaching quality depends on the professor, but all of them are highly knowledgeable and experienced and encourage curiosity. The curriculum is a mix of traditional and fundamental knowledge, using them to build onto teaching about modern standards of the industry. The foundational knowledge is evergreen and helps students in the long run. The difficulty of exams varies from course to course, most of them being challenging, with the pattern depending on the professor teaching the course.
Other: I chose B.Tech in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi because that is what was available to me at my JEE Advanced rank, and it was close to my home. The best thing is that my course is very light and leaves me with time to pursue extracurriculars. I would like it if the lab practicals could be more up-to-date, with an emphasis on standard industry practices and room for innovative thinking. Rendezvous, BECON, and Kaizen are our biggest fests. Every student is engaged in some extracurricular activity or the other, and participation in clubs is highly encouraged.

IIT Delhi: The average college in India.
Placements: IIT Delhi has a strong placement record for Textile Engineering students. About 80% of students secure jobs through campus placements. The placement cell works with top recruiters to provide students with valuable preparation resources and support.
Infrastructure: IIT Delhi's hostel infrastructure is in dire need of an upgrade. Many of the hostels are over 60 years old, and have seen minimal renovation or upgrades in recent years. A modern update would greatly improve the overall living experience. The IITD hospital also has its limitations, with a shortage of well-qualified doctors and outdated facilities. This can make it challenging for students to receive quality medical care on campus. On a positive note, the library stands out as a valuable resource, offering a well-organized, quiet space for study, with a wide range of academic resources and materials that effectively support the academic needs of students.
Faculty: IIT Delhi's Textile Engineering department has highly qualified, knowledgeable, and committed professors. They make complex topics understandable and help students develop technical skills and analytical thinking. However, the administration, including certain deans and the academic body, can be difficult to deal with. Their strict policies and rigid grading practices can be stressful and affect students' CGPA outcome. Students may feel that there is less flexibility and support for their well-being and academic growth.

Experience of IIT Delhi 2024.
Placements: The internship opportunities we are given are the best in India. As students, we can opt for internships at any company with respective fields of interest, with a great stipend of 100,000 to 400,000. Students get eligible for internships after the 2nd semester, and for job placements, they are eligible after the 7th semester. The percentage of students getting placed is seventy to eighty percent. My plan is to excel in this degree.
Infrastructure: Labs are well-equipped and well-maintained with international standards. Professors are really good and helpful with great knowledge. The hostel room we were given is very small in living area, where two or three students live, and they provided us with a desk, chair, cupboard, and B.Ed. The meal quality is good, but the taste and variety are not that great.
Faculty: The faculty-to-student ratio is 40:1, and the course is quite diverse, helping us learn a lot and take interest in it. Exams happen quite frequently, which are very conceptual and difficult. The course is very relevant. The pass percentage is 90%+ students.

Great college for startups and out of campus life.
Placements: 96% placed, the highest package is 400 LPA, and the average is 20 LPA. Core electric companies and tech companies give placements. Amazon and Microsoft are top recruiting companies. 80% students get internships, and others get projects from professors. The top roles in my course is to design motherboards.
Infrastructure: There are large classrooms in which there are AC and heaters, good quality chairs but less breadth of benches. In the whole campus, you don't need mobile data because Wi-Fi is available everywhere. The hostels have small rooms, but they are pretty clean, and in the mess, there are frequent special dinners and lunches. There is a hospital for all IIT students. There are playgrounds for almost every sport.
Faculty: The teachers are very friendly, but they taught only in English. They are very intelligent and have done a lot of research in their field. The course is about electrical circuits. I believe that it will make students industry-ready because the course theory is followed by experiments. The exams are moderate, and we can easily score good by studying an average of 4 hours a day. Passing percentage is 30%.
Other: I was into electric circuits since I was a kid, so I opt this course. The course involves many experiments, so it is good for practical learning. In the labs, they should have more machines of good quality. The events are very frequent, and there are many big fests, and campus is normally crowd and is clean, and there is no much traffic.

Absolutely dissatisfied.
Placements: Placement Percentage: 85% of students were placed. Salary Packages: Highest: 35 LPA Lowest: 6 LPA Average: 12 LPA Top Recruiting Companies: Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Bosch, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra. Internship Stats: 70% secured internships in companies like ISRO, BHEL, DRDO, and Tata Motors. Top Roles Offered: Operations Manager, Supply Chain Analyst, Quality Engineer, and Manufacturing Consultant. Negative Aspects of Production and Industrial at IIT Delhi (fictional): Limited focus on modern technologies, outdated curriculum in parts, and fewer research opportunities compared to CS or ECE. Students often find the coursework theoretical with less industry-aligned practical exposure.
Infrastructure: Facilities and Infrastructure for the Course/Department: Wi-Fi: High-speed campus-wide Wi-Fi access, including in classrooms and labs. Labs: Well-equipped labs with modern machinery for manufacturing, CAD/CAM, automation, and quality control. Classrooms: Smart classrooms with projectors, air-conditioning, and ergonomic seating. Library: A central library with a vast collection of course materials, research papers, and digital resources. Hostel and Campus Facilities: Hostel Quality: Decent rooms with good ventilation, regular cleaning, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Mess and Canteen: Mess food is average with a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, though repetitive. Canteens offer better variety and taste but at a higher cost. Medical Facilities: A 24/7 health center with doctors on call, a pharmacy, and ambulance services. Sports and Games: State-of-the-art sports complexes for indoor and outdoor games, including cricket, football, badminton, gymnasium, and swimming pool.
Faculty: Teaching Quality: While the teachers are qualified and knowledgeable, many fail to engage students effectively. Some rely on outdated teaching methods, making lectures monotonous and theoretical, with limited practical insights. Course Curriculum: The curriculum lacks updates to align with industry demands, focusing heavily on traditional topics. Emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and sustainability are either missing or poorly integrated, leaving students underprepared for modern industrial roles. Semester Exams: Exams are moderately difficult, but the focus is more on rote learning than critical thinking or problem-solving. This approach often frustrates students who aim for industry-relevant skills. The pass percentage hovers around 85%, with many barely scraping through due to poorly designed assessments.
Other: That was the best course I was getting. I am trying to change course. Initially, events were good. The fest was boring, tbh. Regarding campus crowd, you will find many people of different types. Just choose the correct peer group. Campus surroundings (air is polluted). Scholarship is only for those with income less than 5 Lacs. Extracurricular activities are only for CV. If you are not good, you won't be selected.
