Q:   Does NUSRL offer better placements than Nalsar University of Law?

A:

Hello there,

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) and the Nalsar University of Law are two famous law schools in India, each with their own set of qualities. NUSRL has improved its infrastructure and placement rates, but Nalsar University of Law has a stronger alumni network, a better market perception, and a more established reputation in the legal industry .

However, NUSRL has gradually improved its placement opportunities, with some students securing Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) from top law firms. The university's location in Ranchi offers a favorable cost of living and beautiful weather, compensating for some facilities restrictions characteristic of a state capital.

Nalsar University of Law, on the other hand, is well-known for its strong alumni base, great corporate placements, and notable accomplishments in moot court competitions and academic activities. The university's established reputation and alumni network enhance its market worth and industry perception .

In summary, while NUSRL is working to improve its placements and facilities, Nalsar University of Law currently has a competitive advantage in terms of alumni relationships, market value, and general industry perception. When deciding between two universities to pursue their legal education, students should examine these elements, as well as their personal preferences.

Best regards.

Experience at NUSRL, Ranchi.
Placements: Placements are not that good. Although the cell is developing now, one can expect better placements in the future. But now the average goes around 6 lacs from the cell. Many students secure POPs with packages ranging from 15 to 16 lacs. The placements through the cell would land you in a decent firm.
Infrastructure: Hostels are good. You get a gym in both girls and boys hostels. There are also badminton courts. Wi-Fi is available. There is also a study room inside the hostels. Rooms are also good. In the first year, you get a double room, and from the second year on, you get a single room. Mess food is not that good but you have to bear with it. The dispensary is there and a doctor comes daily for 2 hours. Ambulance availability is also there. A canteen is present inside the campus, along with a stuck shop.
Faculty: Faculty members are good. They have a good grip on their subjects. You can clear your doubts at any time, either in class or in their chambers. They will explain things to you clearly if you approach them. The course curriculum is good, including research papers and moot courts, which give you real-life litigation experiences. There are two midterms and two endterms in a year. If you wish to pass the papers in a single go, you have to study; the checking is quite strict.

Our college provides good facilities.
Placements: Around 30% of eligible students got placed in the corporate sector. The salary offered ranges between Rs. 30,000 - Rs. 60,000 per month. The college offers 2 courses, the first one is a 5-year B.A. LL.B. program, while another course is LL.M., which is for 1 year. Our college provides internship opportunities. They provide recommendation letters to the students from different judges, advocates, and firms. The internship duration and the tasks are set by the supervisors.
Infrastructure: The campus consists of 16 classrooms and two libraries. One library is a reference library, while the other is for academic books, journals, magazines, and other useful resources that students can borrow. Each classroom has an air-conditioner, Wi-Fi, a smartboard, a projector, and plenty of seats. Students are divided into two sections per batch. The classrooms, washrooms, and academic blocks are cleaned daily. From the second year onward, each student is given a room with a table, a bed, and a cupboard. First-year students share their room with one other student in either the boys' or girls' hostel. The hostel provides a gym area, a common room, indoor games, a television, and a study room. The food quality is moderate. The canteen has a monopoly. The college provides an ambulance for medical emergencies, with free medication up to Rs.400. The campus has a dispensary with a doctor.
Faculty: Faculty members are helpful. They always resolve and listen to the issues of the students. They are highly qualified in their respective fields. They provide qualitative lectures to us, with study materials and relevant cases and issues in the contemporary world. The course curriculum is valuable for our future studies and shapes us through moot court competitions, group discussions, and class assessment tests. If students attend the lecture classes, they will pass the exam. The pass percentage is 70%.
Other: I chose the B.A. LL.B. course, as I possess debating and analytical skills. This course is ideal as it grants both a graduation and law degree concurrently, eliminating the need for pursuing a separate graduation degree before law. Admission can be secured through the CLAT exam after completing 12th grade, irrespective of the chosen stream. The college conducts various events such as sports competitions, festivals, guest lectures, and other competitions. As a close-knit community, we celebrate all festivals together, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Dissatisfied with the infrastructure of the college.
Placements: The National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi, is one of the 26 National Law Universities of India. It has secured an NIRF ranking of 22 in 2024. The highest placement offered at NLU Ranchi placements 2023 was INR 16 LPA. The highest package offered at NUSRL is between 17 and 18 LPA. The average salary package is between 8 and 10 LPA. The lowest is 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies for our course have been Khaitan & Co., S&A Law Offices, Saraf and Partners, Trilegal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Luthra & Luthra, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, and S&R Associates. The students from my course have gotten internships in companies like Singhania & Co., ZIGRAM Data Technologies Pvt Ltd., Khaitan & Co., and Ortis Law Offices. The top roles offered in my course are legal associates, law consultants, corporate lawyers, litigators, trial lawyers, legal researchers, analysts, and content writers.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure available for our course are not enough. The infrastructure only includes an academic block with lecture rooms (which are not so large), a reference room for conferences, a library, faculty chambers, and the student cell chambers. Apart from that, there are two other buildings—the girls hostel and the boys hostel—with a mess area in the middle. In the first year, the students have to share their rooms with one roommate. However, from the second year onwards, students have a single room to themselves till the end of 5 years. The facilities in the hostel are average. Sometimes, these facilities go below the standard of average. The food is occasionally good. There are no food outlets on the campus since it's located in a remote area. There's only one stuck shop on the campus. The lack of facilities on campus makes it a bit difficult for all of us.
Faculty: Talking about the faculty, the professors here are knowledgeable, except for the fact that some professors don't teach in an interactive way. However, some teachers teach in such an interactive and interesting way that they will make you fall in love with the subject. 90% of the course curriculum felt relevant to me, while it was different for the other 10%. One shortcoming is that they should give us more classes in research and internships, which are the important skills for our professions. The semester exams in the college aren't that difficult. But it's not that easy. If you want to get passing marks, you can give everything a glance a night before the exam. But if you want to score really good marks, you should be consistent with your study. The pass percentage is 40%.
Other: I chose this course because it felt like the appropriate career option for me. My course emphasizes a lot on public speaking and the freedom to express opinion. Things I wish were better about course are that it was more convenient to enter into litigation. There are a variety of events that happen in my course. The festival in my course is a multicultural event.

It is an excellent institution with good education and facilities.
Placements: Around 40% of total students were placed in various reputed law firms. The highest salary package offered is 18 LPA and the lowest salary package offered is 10 LPA. Top recruiting firms are Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Company, Khaitan and Sons, and Singh and Associates. Almost 80% of students get internships in many companies. B.A. LLB, LLM, and Ph.D. are the top degrees offered.
Infrastructure: Being a national university of law, it provides us with excellent facilities with other institutions barely had. Hostel facilities are very nice with separate rooms for each student. There are around 600 rooms in a hostel with strict rules and regulations with the warden and caretaker in the hostel.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college are very good. They not only help us with good understanding but also with one on one conversations with each student who has doubts. They are highly qualified teachers with strong command over their subjects and students. The course curriculum is being provided to us in starting of the session so that we can have a good idea. Exams are not hard as teachers are very good with students and good understanding. About 98% of students passed with good marks.

FAQs

Q:   Is NUSRL as good as Nalsar University of Law?

A:

As you contemplate the choice between the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) and Nalsar University of Law, it's essential to weigh the strengths and considerations of each institution to make an informed decision aligning with your academic and professional goals.

Nalsar University of Law stands as a prestigious institution known for its excellence in legal education. Renowned for its brilliant faculty, it is highly recommended, especially for those aspiring to pursue an LLM degree. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2023 acknowledged NLSIU, NLU Delhi, and NALSAR among the top law schools in India, reaffirming Nalsar's status as a leading legal education provider.

On the other hand, NUSRL Ranchi offers a comprehensive and balanced curriculum, including a compulsory mooting program. While the college provides good facilities, some perspectives suggest that it may not fully meet the expectations associated with a National Law University (NLU).

In terms of placements, NUSRL witnesses approximately 30% of eligible students securing positions in the corporate sector. The salary offered ranges between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 60,000 per month. While this demonstrates a decent placement record, it's imperative to consider your career aspirations and how these align with the placement outcomes of each institution.

Your decision may hinge on factors such as faculty expertise, curriculum structure, campus facilities, and the reputation of each university in the legal landscape. It's advisable to carefully evaluate the specific aspects that matter most to you in your legal education journey, ensuring that your chosen institution aligns with your expectations and future career objectives. By considering these elements thoughtfully, you can make a decision that resonates with your unique aspirations and sets the foundation for a successful legal career.
