SNU Chennai is the second University to be set up by the Shiv Nadar Foundation, following Shiv Nadar University (SNU), Greater Noida. Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNU Chennai) is a private university, which was established by an ACT of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Shiv Nadar University Chennai is recognised by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNU Chennai) is a part of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Shiv Nadar University, through three schools of study, offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. courses to students. These courses are offered across Engineering and several other streams.

Shiv Nagar University Chennai offers BTech course in three specialisations, namely AI and Data Science, Computer Science Engineering with Internet of Things and Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security). The curriculum of this course provides explore advanced learning experiences by inculcating practical learning. The university conducts industry-academia collaboration by organizing guest lectures, workshops, and seminars featuring industry experts and professionals. Along with that, internships and industry projects are also the parts of curriculum.

Class 12 in Commerce stream with Mathematics/ Business Mathematics, Commerce & Accountancy as mandatory subjects is the basic eligibility for BCom at SNU Chennai. Candidates with Arts/ Science stream can also apply for the programme. 

SNU Chennai offers only one BSc programme. The programme that the university offers is BSc in Economics (Data Science). It is a full-time three-year graduation programme which combines the triads of Economics, Data Science and Finance.

The programme focuses on using theoretical frameworks to tackle real-life problems and embeds societal problems like unemployment, poverty, inequalities, various aspects of human development, etc. in the curriculum. Candidates applying for the programme can get exposure to AI, Data Science and programming skills, such as R, Python etc.

To get admission in BSc at SNU Chennai candidates must have a minimum of 75% aggregate in Class 12 science stream with Mathematics/ Business Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science as one of the subjects from a recognised school board. The selection for the SNU Chennai BSc programme is through the SNUCEE entrance exam and a Personal Interview.

Admission to all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses at SNU Chennai is carried out as per well-defined and pre-planned criteria. Candidates who successfully go through all the admission rounds like interview rounds, group discussion rounds, and others are granted a seat in any of the desired courses. The mode of application for all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses is online, and admission is entrance exam-based or merit-based. The university conducts Shiv Nadar University Chennai Entrance Examination SNUCEE followed by a Personal Interview round on the basis of which admission to mostly all the courses (Except Ph.D. is done. A group discussion round is also conducted. For Ph.D. SNU Chennai Ph.D. Entrance Exam is conducted and the final selection is done on the basis of entrance exam scores, PG Degree aggregate, Research Proposal, and performance in the interview round.

Since BSc at SNU Chennai is an interdisciplinary programme, the university keeps the cohort size less to focus on each individual. To provide hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the field there are fewer seats available for the programme.

BSc at SNU Chennai also has a project/dissertation component at the end of the course, which needs the guidance and supervision of a mentor. To give each student enough opportunities to talk to their mentor/faculty SNU Chennai only offers 60 seats in one academic year of BSc.

Out of SNU Chennai, Loyola College Chennai, and Madras Christian College. Loyola College has the most affordable tuition fee among BCom colleges in Chennai. The total fee to pursue BCom at Loyola College is INR 47,900 – 2.5 lakh depending on the specialisation chosen.

If we look at the total fee of Madras Christian College and SNU Chennai the total fee is INR 83,760 and INR 7.97 lakh, respectively. Thus the total fee of both the colleges is much higher than Loyola College Chennai.

The registrations for BTech at SNU Chennai are completely online. Candidates need to apply for the SNUCEE exam on the official website of SNU Chennai and fill an online application form with all the relevant details. Check out the step-wise SNU Chennai application process in the following section:

The total fee of the three-year BCom course offered at SNU Chennai is INR 6.75 lakh, which includes the tuition fee for all academic years. Other charges such as refundable caution deposit (one-time) & admission fee (one-time) are also payable at the time of admission. Hostel, mess, and transport charges will be applicable only if the students avail of these facilities.

The tuition fee for PhD at SNU Chennai is INR 72,000. This fee is sourced from official website/ sanctioning body and is subject to change. Futher, candidates also have to pay for refundable caution deposit of INR 10,000 ( one-time) & admission fee (one-time) of INR 5,000 at the time of admission. The thesis fee will be INR 15,000, which is to be paid at the time of submission of PhD synopsis)

Additionally, the scholars will be provided with free shared accommodation in the hostel and Married scholars will be provided campus accommodation at a nominal rent.
