Q:   Is Tezpur University good for M.Com?

A:
{Source: M.Com students & alumni}

Tezpur University's Master of Commerce (M.Com) programme has received mixed reviews from its students and alumni. Here are some key findings:

* Industry-Relevant Curriculum: The course curriculum is competitive and prepares students for the industry, covering important subject areas and offering skills development opportunities.
* Good Infrastructure: The university boasts excellent infrastructure, including well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, and hostels.
* Campus Life: Students appreciate the peaceful campus atmosphere, recreational facilities, and regular events.

However, some concerns arise:

* Average Placements: Although 30-40% of students get placed, the packages may not be as attractive as expected, with average salaries ranging from INR4-5 lakhs.
* Limited Placement Opportunities: Some students express disappointment with the limited placement opportunities available, particularly in comparison to other universities in the region.
* Faculty Feedback: While most teachers are supportive, a few students mention that some faculty members could improve their teaching approaches and availability.
* No Clear Focus on Academics: Some students feel that the university focuses more on extracurricular activities than academic rigor.

In conclusion, while Tezpur University's M.Com programme has its strengths, students should weigh these positives against potential drawbacks related to placements and faculty feedback. It is crucial to consider individual goals and expectations before pursuing this course.

Facilities provided are good, but the faculty who are pursuing their PhDs are not good.
Placements: The university does not provide any placement opportunities for the students of the B. Voc department. We don't have any placement cell. However, most of the students get internships in good companies, but the companies do not provide any stipend for us. It's mandatory for the students of the B.Voc department to do internships after the completion of each semester. However, we do internships only for 15 days.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our university is good. Facilities like labs, classrooms, library, sports and games etc., are good here. The quality of the labs is good. But it's quite annoying at times as we don't have our separate department. We have to share the department with B.Tech students. The hostel food is good, and the campus is so beautiful.
Faculty: We don't have proper faculty members. Faculty members who are pursuing their PhDs take our class, but they get confused while teaching at times. Apart from them, the rest of our faculty members are good. The way they teach is really good. The college also provides good industry exposure. Many industry experts visit our college at times.

I'm satisfied with the curriculum, but dissatisfied with our department.
Placements: The central placement cell of the university has not given any preference to the students of the B.Voc. department until now. B.Voc students were not included in any placement activities of the department. However, students get internship opportunities easily. Students have to do internships after the completion of every semester.
Infrastructure: It is one of the finest colleges in the entire North East. All the equipment and machinery are available for practical tests. The college provides 24 hours Wi-Fi facility. A department library and a computer centre are also available. No air-conditioners are available in our classrooms. The hostel has a world-class infrastructure, but the food served is pathetic.
Faculty: Regular faculty members of the B.Tech and M.Tech programs think that B.Voc students are a burden. Only one or two faculty members are genuinely attached to the course. They give their best for students. The course is the best in the current state of education, and this can provide skill-based education that helps you get a good job.
Other: International and national seminars are regularly conducted in the college.

B.Voc in food processing, Tezpur University review.
Placements: Placements scenario is very poor, not a single student got placement. If placement is a concern then its better not go for this course. Internships are included in the course curriculum but all are without stipend, University didn't fund a rupee at all.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the University is concerned as world class. It is one of the greenest campuses in the country. All the buildings are beautiful, which will surely attract you. All the basic facilities like a playground, hospitals, gym, indoor stadium, swimming pools, yoga centre, etc. , are present on the campus. The library is well-stocked with books. Hostel facilities are quite good. No ragging in the hostel. You will feel like home there. 24 hours electricity and water supply, washing machine, fast speed Wi-Fi facility are available. Food is also good. There is a common room also for meeting, watching TV and playing caroom & table tennis.
Faculty: TU has the best in class Faculty members in all their respective schools. Delivering best in class knowledge is the motto of the Faculty members. Timely covering of the course structure, reliable knowledge on practicals & labs, anytime on-campus doubt clearing sessions, different languages and a good, friendly & enthusiast.
Other: Campus is very rich in natural beauty and infrastructure.

Overall, the University have good faculties. It would be more beneficial if the placements improved
Placements: The placement was not upto mark for our course. Being in the first batch, maybe we didn't got wide exposure. But, however the other departments had quite a lot of placement in good companies. Even in the FET department, brands like Nestle, etc. Came for recruitment.
Infrastructure: The university has well established infrastructure. The library provided 24*7 reading facilities. The campus had a good Wi-Fi connection which helped the students in gaining wide knowledge. The hostels were clean and the food was hygienic. The laboratories had wide instruments, machines, etc.
Faculty: The teachers were friendly and they guided us in every situations. A good relation was developed between the students and teachers. We were given exposure to Food Industries from the very start. Trainings in industry were to be completed after every semester.
Other: The campus life was quite awesome. Every month, there used to be events ranging from cultural to technology fests. The ban on vehicles for students was perhaps a good step. This help in having a healthy environment.

I am satisfied with the course. I recommend others to join.
Placements: Placements of M.Tech has been seen doing a fare upshift. B.Voc is comparatively new course. We were the first batch of this course in our University. Our strength was 15. 3 of them are already working. Those were placed off campus. Others have been seen studying higher studies in different Universities like BHU, IBS, Tezpur University. Internships are mandatory part of B.Voc programme. We got opportunity to do internships in many small or big industries. For example, Amul in Anand ( Gujarat), SRD group of industries in Mangaldai (Assam) etc. And at the last semester one should do an internship for the whole semester, which helps the students to get placed. We visited various industries in all the semesters of our course.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of TU is very good, the campus is very beautiful and for studying the environment is too friendly. The department that I have studied have world class infrastructure. Buildings are equipped with all the modern day amenities. Equipments of our department (Food engineering and technology) are all in working condition and provide good scope for practicals within the department itself. We have a central library and also each department has their own library. We also have campus Wi-Fi which is available 24/7 which is very useful for students and as well as for faculty members. And also the University has a gym, a swimming pool, cafeteria, a market, different kinds of brick and mortar stores inside and outside of the campus. Every students get hostel to stay and each hostel has their own mess.
Faculty: Teachers or faculty members are very good, talented and friendly. Here in Tezpur University, for the B.Voc programme a 60:40 ratio of practical and theory is maintained. Practical part is given more stress for increase in employability of the students. CBCT is offered for 3 semesters for flexible credit transfer. Teachers are very much interested in giving you the required knowledge but you should have that mind and interest to know the things. Otherwise you will be a graduate with zero knowledge.
Other: Each year varsity week is observed which improves the other skills of the students like singing, dancing, drawing etc. And as well as events is also observed.
