3 mins readUpdated on Feb 24, 2023 13:21 IST

At Adamas University, it is believed that true education goes beyond the books and degrees that one has obtained and that the only way to fully express oneself is through extracurricular activities.

The faculty at Adamas University (AU) believes that extracurricular events and activities are an essential part of our education system, and students take part in these events as another way of learning outside their textbooks. These events help boost one’s self-confidence and overall personal development. It’s not necessary that it only includes your personal interests. Playing a video game or singing are more often than not listed under non-academic learning. But if anything leads to building your mental muscles stronger and enhancing your skills, then that is encouraged at Adamas University.

Importance of Extracurricular Activities at AU

  • Exposure to the world beyond their limited lives helps form a new perspective.
  • Helps in maintaining a balanced social and academic life.
  • Proximity to more career paths.
  • Enhances social skills.
  • Contributes to unity and teamwork.

These events, which are classified as non-academic, hold great interest as they might impress your interviewee in your possible future interviews. They help you see the world and gain insight beyond your textbooks. One can be interested in their hobbies and engage in a learning process through these extra-curricular activities. Therefore, at Adamas University in Kolkata, students are encouraged to participate in and organise activities.

There are various societies and clubs where students participate to develop certain skills and boost confidence according to their interests.

Art and Culture at AU

The development of young people who are culturally aware and artistically sensitive begins with arts and cultural education. In today's environment, the ability to take ownership of protecting and transmitting cultural wealth from one generation to the next is necessary. At Adamas, they believe that true education goes beyond the books and degrees that one has obtained and that the only way to fully express oneself is through extracurricular activities. The University offers students regular weekly sessions in singing, dancing, elocution, and training in musical instruments including the keyboard, guitar, violin, tabla, drums, etc. through a partnership with the government organisation Sarbabharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad. Teachers who have received accreditation and approval to teach these courses make sure they help the students reach their full potential. Students who complete the courses will be awarded a certificate by the Sarbabharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad. Students get an opportunity to put their training and practice to frequent use during celebrations at the university, such as Dol Utsav, Rabindra Jayanti, Bhasha Utsav, Teacher’s Day, Annual Fest, departmental celebrations, etc. This makes for an experience that illuminates and expands the student’s horizons.

Foreign Language Training Programs at AU

Multilingualism is now more than just a word or idea in the modern world. It has been proven to be quite useful to know a language other than your native tongue. Being able to speak in a language other than one's native tongue helps one build meaningful relationships with others and opens doors that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. This is true from both a social and financial perspective. At AU, they provide thorough training in mainly three foreign languages: French, German and Russian.

Communicative English is woven into all courses offered at the university.

CSR Club Venture: On October 28, 2019, ADAMAS University and the Samit Roy Foundation organised a social event for the people living in the nearby villages. The plan was to provide bhog to the local villagers on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. Therefore, Adamas University, along with extracurricular activities, tries to achieve self-satisfaction through CSR initiatives as well.

Yoga and Meditation: The art of meditation and yoga practice aids in the management of a person's spirit, body, and mind. To develop a serene mind and body, it combines mental and physical practices. Additionally, it promotes relaxation and aids in reducing stress and anxiety. All of the students at Adamas University's campus have access to a yoga room, both male and female. A certified yoga trainer regularly leads classes for the students on the university campus.
