Named after the former prime minister Indira Gandhi, IGNOU was established in 1985 and is run by the Government of India with a view to serve the Indian population by means of distance and open education. The open University aims at providing quality higher education opportunities to all segments of society. IGNOU admission process 2021 is currently open for its July intake and the last date to apply is November 30.

IGNOU offers a plethora of UG, PG, PhD, certificate and diploma courses. This article will throw light on the admission process of Arts, Commerce and Science courses offered by the University. A few highlights around IGNOU admission 2021 are as follows:

IGNOU Admission 2021: BA, MA

Offered across 14 specialisations, BA is a three-year programme, the maximum duration of which is six years. The total course fee of BA General is Rs 8,700.

MA is a two-year course available across 16 specialisations. This course is available in two cycles — January and July. At present, applications are open for July 2021 session till September 15. Available in online/open and distance modes, IGNOU MA admission is completely based on merit scores obtained by the students in their graduation degree.

  • Selection criteria: Merit-based
  • Course fee: The full course fee for BA programme is Rs 8,700 which is to be paid in yearly instalment of Rs 2,900

IGNOU Admission 2021: BCom, MCom

BCom and MCom are offered by the School of Management Studies, IGNOU. BCom is a three-year duration course and the maximum duration allowed to complete the course is six years. For MCom, students can complete the two years’ course in a maximum of five years.

Registration in Professional Competence Course/ PEII/ Intermediate (Chartered Accountancy First Stage) of ICAI

Class 12 or its equivalent and registration in Company Secretaryship Foundation Programme

Financial and Cost Accounting

Class 12 or its equivalent and registration in ICWAI Foundation Course

MCom

General

Graduates in any discipline or equivalent from a recognised university

Finance & Taxation

Business Policy and Corporate Governance

Graduates in any stream or equivalent from a recognised university/ institute and passed in Company Secretaryship Executive Programme

Graduates in any stream or equivalent from a recognised university/ institute and passed in ICWAI Intermediate Course

IGNOU Admission 2021: BSc, MSc

IGNOU’s School of Sciences offers BSc at UG level and MSc at PG level. The total duration of the BSc programme is three years and can be completed within a maximum of six years. MSc, on the other hand, is a two-year course and can be completed within a maximum of four years.

In the field of Science, IGNOU offers BSc General and BSc (Hons) programme at UG level. Offered in both the January and July cycles of admission, the minimum duration for these courses is three years while the maximum is six years. Additionally, IGNOU also offers a PG BSc Nursing course of three-year duration to the students. Candidates seeking admission must have a valid score in the OPENNET exam conducted by IGNOU. 

Selection Process

  • A merit list for admission is prepared by the regional centres for admission based on marks obtained in the entrance exam
  • A counselling round is conducted by the regional centre after advance intimation to all learners
  • Candidates offered admission are required to deposit the programme fee (non-refundable) after verification of all the certificates and documents in the counselling round
