Actuarial Science is a discipline that focuses on predicting future events in various fields like finance, economy, insurance, etc. It requires in-depth study and research to access the various aspects involved in the prediction process. Therefore, the syllabus of Actuarial Science revolves around mathematical and statistical techniques used to find the probability of different events in different industries. Both bachelor-level and master-level courses are available in Actuarial Science. These courses focus on enhancing the problem-solving, critical thinking, and statistical skills of the students.

Actuarial Science Syllabus: Important Facts

The space below mentions the important facts about the Actuarial Science syllabus:

  1. Types of courses: The students can enrol in BBA in Actuarial Science, BSc. in Actuarial Science, MBA in Actuarial Science, MSc. in Actuarial Science, etc. The eligibility varies according to the course chosen by the students.
  2. Duration: The bachelor-level UG courses come with a duration of 3 years, whereas master-level PG courses have a duration of 2 years. The syllabus of these courses is divided into 6 and 4 semesters, respectively.
  3. Exam pattern: The exams are organised into two sections, viz. practicals and theory exams. The syllabus is divided into Core Principles, Core Practises, Specialist Principles, and Specialist Advanced subjects. It is compulsory for the students to clear the Core Principles and Core Practises subjects, whereas the marks obtained in Specialist subjects indicate the proficiency of the students in that particular subject.
  4. Difference in the syllabus of IAI and other institutions: The Institute of Actuaries of India is the premier institution when it comes to Actuarial Science. Though the major part of the syllabus remains the same, the syllabus of IAI is much more extensive, and focus is given to enhancing the practical knowledge and skills of the students.
  5. Scope of Actuarial Science: The students who complete their course in Actuarial Science can pursue a career in insurance, statistical departments, finance firms, etc. They can also start their own business due to the vast business knowledge provided by these courses.
  6. Change in the syllabus: The syllabus for Actuarial Science courses has mostly remained unchanged after the pandemic. The students need to download the latest upgrades when it comes to studying materials as it helps them to get acquainted with the minor changes that may be incorporated in the syllabus.
