M.Tech. in Laser and Electro Optical Engineering - Batch of 2022
Offered by College of Engineering, Anna University
1.8

It does not have the value for money and time.
Placements: There are no placements for students in our course. No optics or laser-related companies visit here. All of us had to look out for off-campus opportunities. Most of them were placed based on their bachelor's degree courses. This course has a large scope, but the university is not good.
Faculty: M.Tech in laser and electro-optical engineering comes under the physics department. No one expects that a master's degree in engineering comes under the physics department. First and second-semester subjects and lab were like 11th and 12th-grade physics classes, and all the experiments from the bachelor's 1st year are repeated here in the 1st year of the master's degree. We were there to learn new things, not revise old concepts. There is no improvement in technology, and teachers are very egoistic. Most of them do not have any knowledge about this simple subject. Most of them just read the PDF, and one of the staff members doesn't even have a clear voice. The same staff taught us two core subjects for consecutive semesters. The course is not just worth the fees. Students will never be able to develop knowledge by studying at this university. One needs a high tolerance level to deal with such lecturers.

M.Tech. in Laser and Electro Optical Engineering - Batch of 2018
Offered by College of Engineering, Anna University

Awesome college if you are in the correct department.
Placements: Placements for our department were nil. But our previous seniors were placed in simple optics companies like: Appasamy associates and general optics. The salary would be around 15-20k a month which is equivalent to a Diploma guy's salary. The roles were optics design engineer and sales & marketing roles. One student from our department got an internship at Department of Atomic Energy, India because of his outstanding score. Two of the others in the 2018 pass out batch got opportunities in IIT Madras. The remainder of the students did simple projects to complete their course. The internship at DAE was very fruitful to the student because he had got placed off campus through a recommendation by a senior scientist. The placements are generally for B.E students and Masters students related to Mechanical, computer Science and IT, Applied electronics and VLSI students.
Infrastructure: The campus is beautiful with very good laboratories, gaming rooms, medical facilities and full fledged support for extra curricular events and symposiums. CEG holds one of the biggest symposiums called Kurukshetra for four days. Perfect enjoyment. The hostels are good and spacious. But the physics department has shortage of classes. So we had to wait until the other class had finished, for us to enter the room. The canteen food is the best for minimal cost. It's subsidized and hotel quality.
Faculty: One thing is that teachers do not help you out much because for Masters students the entire curriculum is self-study. So don't expect any help from the staff for exams but, they will offer you all the help for internships and extra curricular events. Mostly the staff just read out material from the books and expected the same answers on paper. But one student defied them by only reading material from standard books like 6-7 books per subject. He had a CGPA of 9.68. The highest in department history and he was placed recently in a well-known laser company as a scientist through his own efforts.
Other: The campus was full of people who would always help no matter what the time or place. People are generally very kind. But the HOD of the physics department is kind of harsh to his students as expected. He took a long time to sign any sheet or any letter. Scholarships are offered to SC/ST and OBC students.
