NIRF 2024 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2024 rankings, IIM Shillong ranks #24 under the category 'Management'.
The CAT 2024 answer key has been released for IIM Shillong admission to the MBA/PGDM courses. Candidates can download the answer key by using their login credentials on the official website. The CAT 2024 result is expected to be released by Dec 20, 2024.
A few more updates are given below:
- The GATE 2025 registration process with late fee is closed now for admission to the MTech course. The GATE 2025 exam will be conducted on Feb 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.
- PGPEx 2025 applications are open, and the last date to apply for Round 2 is Jan 25, 2025. Further, the interviews will be held on Feb 8 and Feb 9, 2025, and the results will be declared by Feb 12, 2025.
- PGPWE 2025 applications are open and the last date is Jan 25, 2025. Further, the test and interviews will be held on Feb 1 & Feb 2, 2025, and the results will be declared on Feb 15, 2025.
- PhD 2025 applications are open for Round 1 and the last date is Jan 28, 2025. Further, the interview process will be scheduled from Feb 14, 2025.
- PhD (Working Professionals) 2025 applications are also open and the last date is Mar 24, 2025. Further, the interview of shortlisted candidates will be held on Apr 26 & Apr 27, 2025.

Q: What is the cut off CAT for IIM Shillong?
IM Shillong admission process is conducted in two phases. In the Phase 1, candidates are shortlisted for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). In Phase 2, based on the Past Academic Performance, Performance in GD and PI, Performance in CAT, total work experience, and gender, the final merit list is prepared for offer of admission to the PGP batch. It is the phase 2 which is the deciding factor for any candidate's admission to IIM Shillong.
Candidates who have opted (as per the CAT application) for the IIM Shillong PGP 2024-26 batch are eligible for consideration in Phase 1. The minimum requirement of marks in various sections of CAT for candidates across different categories to be considered for shortlisting for the PI process is tabulated below:

IIM Shillong process of shortlisting candidates for GDPI is independent of those of other IIMs. IIM Shillong sends an intimation mail to the registered email of the shortlisted candidates. The Candidates are required to fill out the interview form and upload the same on the Admission Portal of IIM Shillong.
IIM Shillong, then sends GD/PI call letters to only those candidates who have filled the interview form correctly.
IIM Shillong does not send any intimation to those candidates who are not shortlisted, or who haven't filled the interview form correctly within the stipulated time.
Based on the performance of the candidate in GDPI, a merit list for final admission offers is prepared. IIM Shillong also prepares a waitlist, according to the ranks of the candidate, for admission in case any candidate do not accept the admission offer.

The answer to this question of whether an average student can get into IIM can be both yes and no depending on the definition of an average student.
- Based on Academics (Class 10/ Class 12/ Graduation): While a student with average scores in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation with a good CAT score certainly has good chances of getting a call from IIM-A, chances are less for someone with an average CAT score.
- Based on student category (General or Reserved): While it is tough for a General category average student to grab a seat at IIM due to high score requirements, a reserved category student can get admission being at average scores as well.
- Based on past work experience, diversity and other factors: Gender and academic diversity is also a factor on which students are shortlisted at IIM. IIMs judge the past academic category based on the degree obtained by the students before MBA and then a weightage is allotted based on that. For Engineers, the percentage for scoring the highest marks is higher as compared with other streams
- Performance in selection rounds: Once you make it to the final selection rounds, i.e., AWT/PI process, it can be considered a fresh start. At this stage, students can forget their past average-ness but definitely require good grasp over the past subjects as academics-related questions are asked in the interview.
Based on the above factors, it can be considered that while getting into top Management institutes, such as IIM is extremely tough, the past performance, CAT performance, student category and a lot of factors can be the reasons for a student to receive that final call.
