Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for M.Sc. students at IIT Roorkee?

    A:
    {Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Success Rate of Placement Cell in Securing Jobs for M.Sc. Students at IIT Roorkee

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what we found:

    * Limited placements: According to some students, there are limited placements in core companies, and most students end up applying to non-core companies. (Source: Review 10)
    * Average salary packages: While some students reported getting decent job offers, the average salary package in non-core companies is around INR8-9 LPA. (Source: Review 14)
    * Placement cell effort: One student mentioned that the placement cell is "not that effective" in securing jobs for students. (Source: Review 16)

However, it's essential to note that these findings might not be representative of the overall experience, and individual results may vary.

Overall, while the placement cell seems to face challenges in securing jobs for M.Sc. students at IIT Roorkee, it's crucial for students to stay proactive and prepared to secure employment in their chosen field.

Please note that the success rate of the placement cell might depend on various factors such as the student's performance, skills, and adaptability, as well as the current market trends and demand.

IIT Roorkee - a beautiful place that comes with a lot of pressure .
Placements: Placements are beyond excellent for B.Tech students, but I think it would be better if you taught. Companies come for Masters students too; only coaching institutes are there who approach Masters students. But the name itself is sufficient to land a good internship opportunity. You can also do research work under professors from all over the world with the help of connections. The placement cell is also very active. Students opt for Ph.D. government exams and placement. Placement cell helps a few students who want to get a job; otherwise, students go on their own ventures mostly.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is brilliant in terms of everything. The classrooms are high-teaching, and the lecture hall are air-conditioned with smartboards and excellent furniture. The hostels are also getting updated and the new hostels that have been built are apartments like with private balcony. Every hostel has a day and night canteen, laundry room, gym room, stationery, etc. It has one of the most beautiful campus I have ever come across.
Faculty: Some faculty members of my course are good at teaching, but some are not creating an atmosphere where a student's interest can be increased on the topic further. Apart from that, the curriculum is not something that is to be taken lightly, as there are midterm exams, endterm exams, and class tests, so it is very hectic to survive in an IIT. But it's a good thing that it teaches you how to handle pressure. The curriculum is updated, and it is very relevant from a research point of view. The semester exams can be moderate-ddifficult based on the type of course that is opted for. A minimum 5 CGPA is required to pass a subject.
Other: My batch consisted of 44 students, out of which only 42 are there now. It is very common for students to drop out of IIT because of the pressure and stress. However, the time passes very quickly here because many things are going on once in a while. There are fests, cultural programs, festivities, knowledgeable sessions, and movie screenings in the convocation hall every 2 weeks. You can get a huge amount of exposure here because people from around India and even around the world are present here.

I liked the faculty very much.
Placements: A minimum of 60% marks are required for campus placement. There are many companies visiting the campus, like Cognizant and Dr. Reddy, with the highest package of 15 lacs per year and 80% of students are getting placement. My plan after getting a degree is to go into the biotech industry.
Infrastructure: IIT Roorkee provides accommodation for students with separate wings or blocks for boys and girls. Each student is typically provided with a single room or shared room, depending on availability. Each hostel has its own mess facility, providing meals to the residents. The mess serves a variety of food options catering to different dietary preferences. Hostels have common areas where students can socialize, study, or relax during their free time. These spaces may include TV rooms, reading rooms, and recreational areas. Most hostels are equipped with internet connectivity to facilitate academic and research-related activities. Sports and Gym Facilities: Many hostels have indoor sports facilities, and some even have gyms to promote physical fitness among the residents. Hostel Committees: Each hostel has its own student committee responsible for organizing various cultural, sporting, and academic events within the hostel. Hostel Fee: INR 70000 per year
Faculty: In the current scenario, biotechnology could be found in every medical-related technique. So, in my personal opinion, doing a masters would be better in interdisciplinary subjects than in core subjects. There are 5 permanent professors and the student strength is 30. So, the teacher-to-student ratio is 1:6. All the professors hold a postdoctoral degree with several years of teaching and research experience. There are 4 semesters in 2 years. If one attends the classes on a regular basis, then getting pass marks is very easy as it's a home university. Class size:-56 The course costs INR 230000 per year.

I am satisfied with this college.
Placements: In IIT, the placement is approximately 100%. About 80% of students from the INT M.Sc. batch got placed in different core and non-core companies, and the rest 20% opted for their PhDs. The highest package offered was 48 LPA by Razorpay, the lowest package was 14 LPA by a pharmaceutical company, and the average package was 16 LPA. For placements, students prepare for both core companies and non-core companies. Top recruiting companies were Goldman Sachs, Razorpay, Microsoft, Dr. Reddy's, Mankind Pharmaceuticals etc. The internships are quite good for this course. Many students went abroad for student exchange programs and did their internships. Some went to different software companies, and some to different pharmaceutical companies as per their interest. The internship rate was approximately 85%. Software engineer, consultant, financial advisory, etc., are the top roles offered to students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of IIT is at its best. It has two lecture hall complexes for academics, which are fully air-conditioned and have high-tech facilities. Practicals and some lectures are conducted in the chemistry department, which is very good. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus. A central library and departmental libraries are available with offline and online resources. Hostels are quite good, and the rooms are big enough. Rooms do not have AC, but you will have fans. In summer, you are allowed to keep coolers. The mess facilities of different hostels are very good with good quality food, with a TV inside the mess and a sound system. For sports, there are three stadiums, one for cricket, one for football and the other for hockey. For medical purposes, IIT has his own medical institute where you will get 24*7 services.
Faculty: The faculty are well qualified in IIT Roorkee. They all are post-graduates from reputed foreign universities and have an ocean of knowledge. The tier teaching methodology is quite good, and the teaching quality is also very good. Courses offered in this branch prepare students for the industry. We learn maths, physics, economics, biology, sociology, English, and psychology apart from chemistry. Semester exams are not much difficult, but you have to study for good grades.
Other: I opted for this course because of my interest in chemistry and also because of the name of IIT Roorkee. Currently, many improvements are made in this course as it is made more industry-based. In IIT, two fests are conducted a year, and one of them is Thomson, which is a cultural fest and is world-famous. The other is Cognizant which is the world's 3rd largest technical fest. You will get many scholarships here, such as the James Thomason scholarship, fee waiver, merit cum scholarship, etc.

I'm fully satisfied with everything, and it is the most amazing thing happened to me.
Placements: The placements are good, but not many students got placed in M.Sc. Physics. In B.Tech courses, 100% placements are provided. If M.Sc. Physics, students who want to get placed have to work hard and do various internships which add perks to their CV.
Infrastructure: Our college has a world-class sports complex with a swimming pool, squash court, gym, badminton, tennis court, cricket ground, football ground, pool table etc. There is no doubt that IIT Roorkee enjoys some of the greatest infrastructure and facilities that there could be in any institute.
Faculty: The faculty members are good. Some of them are excellent, and some of them hold world-class ranks. The way of teaching is very peculiar, which can only be found in IITs. The courses are good here. I'm feeling lucky to be a part of IITR. The curriculum is the same as the curriculum followed by any of the top 6 IITs.
Other: The college organises many events, like a cultural fest named Thomso, a sports fest named Sangram and a tech fest named Cognisance. Not only technical, core and academics, the IIT atmosphere also gives you an opportunity for all round development. IIT Roorkee is an excellent college with all the modern infrastructure available.

The course is not up to the mark as expected from an IIT.
Placements: To be honest, students do not get many internships, but placements were okay. Most of the tech companies are open for this branch. The college also offers good research opportunities. Professors are decent. More than 50% of students got placed, and the others went for higher studies.
Infrastructure: IIT Roorkee hostels are decent enough, and they provide good Wi-Fi facilities. For the chemistry department, good labs are available. Faculty members are not that great. Sports facilities are really good. If you want to go into sports, this college is a great choice.
Faculty: Exams are the same as other engineering colleges. There are mid-term and end-term exams, and 75% attendance is the required criteria. The course is not tough, and you will not feel much pressure for academics and have plenty of time to do other things.
Other: Cultural activities in all IITs are very good.

I am satisfied with the faculty members on campus but not placements.
Placements: Placements in our college are not so good. In the previous year, out of the batch of 30 students, only four got placed in four different companies. The average salary package offered was 8 LPA to 12 LPA, but it varies year-wise. Most of the students are pursuing a Ph.D. degree after M.Sc., but in the case of B.Tech and M.Tech, the chance of getting placed in a company is relatively high.
Infrastructure: The entire campus is well-equipped with a Wi-Fi network, and we have a central library as well as the departmental library and the central library remains open 24X7. On the campus there are 12 hostels among which 4 are for girls and 9 are for boys, and also there are 3 guest houses for the stay of any outsider.
Faculty: All the faculty members conduct classes regularly, and their way of teaching is excellent. Students of any level can catch it easily and backbenchers also understand well. The syllabus depends on home modern scientific approaches and their application in today's life. Sometimes they also teach us current research papers and series. Even they give valuable advice regarding our future career and do counseling of students.
Other: I opted for this course because of my interest in the science field and I especially like the biotechnology field. The college organises many events, there are like Thomso, as a culture festival, Sangram as a sports fest & Cognisance as Tech Fest.
