Q:   Is B.Sc. at Institute of Home Economics a good choice?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's what students and alumni have to say:

Pros:

* Relevant course curriculum that prepares students for industry requirements
* Helpful and knowledgeable faculty members
* Opportunities for practical learning and internships
* Exposure to various fields like food technology, nutrition, and communication development
* Good networking possibilities through Eminence, the college's placement cell

Cons:

* Limited placement opportunities, mainly for sales and marketing internships
* Low salary packages (average salary for a B.Sc. student: below INR20,000 per month)
* Infrastructure issues, including poor Wi-Fi connectivity and outdated labs
* Limited hostel facilities
* High competition for internships and placements
* Limited recognition of the course among top recruiters

Neutral observations:

* The college has a strong reputation for its faculty members and course curriculum
* The campus is small, but has some amenities like a library, canteen, and basketball court
* Extracurricular activities and events are organized, although they might not be frequent or exciting

It provides poor infrastructure of this college with its least facilities available.
Placements: B.Sc. microbiology is a very good course. In the future, this may give good placements in some of the top companies all around the globe. Not only this, but it may also provide a highly reputed job and can give a good earnings as well. Some of the top roles offered include microbiologist, geneticist, etc.
Infrastructure: This college does not have a hostel of its own and it has extremely poor infrastructure. Basic facilities like clean washrooms and water coolers are not up to the mark. Moreover, the classrooms are not ventilated wherein even the fans do not work properly.
Faculty: The teaching staff is moderate. While some teachers provide students notes and teach properly. On the other hand, others do not even bother whether the students are able to understand the concept or not. Use of smartboards is minimal. The teaching quality should be efficiently increased.
Other: The campus crowd is very cheap. This college does not pay attention to any type of sports. Moreover, any sort of event or fest is rarely organised on this campus. There is a poor campus life which is not at all enjoyed by many.

Excellent faculty and good infrastructure.
Placements: The college provides many opportunities to work with different companies through internships. The placement cell of college is quite active in this regard. However, Masters is preferred for courses like microbiology. Students can learn from internships.
Infrastructure: The college has a well designed infrastructure with Wi-Fi available. It has ground for chilling, basketball court, canteen for snacking. The library is very well stocked with almost every book available related to the course. It has good capacity to sit and study. The labs are also well-equipped with all the latest instruments.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified in their respective courses. They have a vast knowledge and good experience in their subjects. They're always willing to help students with the doubts or any problem. They frequently share extra information with students. The semester exams are average, neither too easy nor too hard. One can easily pass by studying with concentration in class itself.

Infrastructure and facilities are good.
Placements: Amity and other private schools are the recruiters for home science students. B.Sc students of the science stream preferred higher education. Almost all students of our batch went for higher education like masters and PhD. Some students got placed in hospitals as microbiologists. The course offered an excellent understanding of the subject, which helped in figuring future prospects.
Infrastructure: The quality of food available in the canteen was very good. I am completely satisfied with the charges too. Classrooms and other facilities were satisfactory. Wi-Fi was provided with password protection to every student of college. Labs were well-equipped.
Faculty: Teachers were extremely qualified, and the courses taught were relevant for industry placement. Semester exams were moderate in terms of difficulty. The pass percentage is 33% for semester exams, and 75% for attendance was compulsory in order to attend exams.

It is an average DU college, but the education provided is good.
Placements: After completing bachelor's, students usually need to pursue a master's before they can apply for a placement. Placements offered are usually in colleges as professors or as researchers in hospitals or research labs. Even internships are from hospitals and clinics and not from specific companies.
Infrastructure: Classrooms in our college are like typical government university college rooms, but we do have Wi-Fi. The lab is equipped well as it is under the allowance of DU. The canteen served fresh food everyday couple hours before the lunch break. When ordered, they serve some items like noodles, etc.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are mostly PhD holders, or they have years worth of experience. Hence they have a lot of knowledge. The course curriculum is mostly relevant except a few things that got excluded from syllabus altogether but are needed in entrances.
