Q:   Question: How is the course curriculum for B.E. / B.Tech at JCT College of Engineering?

A:
{Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

Course Curriculum for BE/BTech in Petroleum Engineering at JCT College

Based on the feedback from students and alumni, here's an overview of the course curriculum:

* Lack of Practical Knowledge: Many students felt that the course focused more on theoretical aspects and did not provide sufficient practical knowledge, making it challenging for them to apply their skills in real-world scenarios.
* Relevance to Industry Needs: Some students mentioned that the course curriculum does not align with the requirements of the industry, resulting in a lack of employability among graduates.
* Teaching Quality: While some faculty members were knowledgeable and helpful, others lacked practical experience and teaching skills, leading to ineffective classroom interactions.
* Syllabus Completion: Students reported that their professors often failed to cover the entire syllabus, leaving important topics unaddressed and creating difficulties during examinations.
* Emphasis on Mugging Up: The emphasis on rote memorization and mugging up rather than conceptual understanding and critical thinking was a common complaint among students.
* Placement Records: While some students secured decent placements, many others faced challenges in finding employment, citing poor placement records and inadequate corporate connections.

It appears that the course curriculum at JCT College requires significant revisions to address these concerns and ensure that students receive a balanced education that prepares them for the demands of the industry.

Review of JCT College of Engineering.
Placements: I enjoyed the company of my friends there. I wish I could have studied somewhere else with the same fee structure which I paid for some other course. Although the faculty members were well-trained in the chemical and petrochemical industry, we had a difficult time. Every concept was googled.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is average. The college building is of a length of about 100 to 250 meter. The college has 5 departments excluding science and humanities, which they moved to mechanical and automobile engineering block. The hostel does not even provide water facility for students for which the students protested for 5 times, but there was no change. Food served in the hostel is worst. Medical facilities and ambulance are available at our college. Labs lack equipment for the students.
Faculty: Petroleum engineering course is a sea of learning courses where there are many sub-branches. Here you will just learn basics that too if you do google under some guidance from outsiders. Staff members of chemical engineering were qualified. The course offers jobs and training if you study at a well-known college, not here. It is the best course, but college is the worst.

The worst college to learn petroleum engineering.
Placements: There is absolutely NO PLACEMENTS for petroleum engineering branch. So far three batches have passed out from this college and not even one student was placed on campus. Many of my seniors are jobless till now or have joined call centers to support their family.
Infrastructure: Classrooms have basic amenities and are spacious. There are very few classrooms which are equipped with presentation facilities. Library is decent but lacks important books related to petroleum engineering branch. Hostel has below par infrastructure but they are renovating it. The food that is served on campus in hostel is awful. Students keep protesting because of this but nothing changes.
Faculty: Not a single faculty of petroleum department holds relevant qualification. All the staffs have degrees in either chemical or petrochemical engineering. Even the Head of the Department has Ph.D. in bio technology. The teaching quality can be understood from this fact that most of the staffs dictate notes directly from Google without giving any explaination. They are qualified to teach chemical or petrochemical engineering but not petroleum engineering.
Other: Petroleum engineer degree provides you a plethora of career opportunities in the oil and gas sector which may fetch you hefty salary package as you gain field experience. It is quite expensive for the colleges to teach this course practically and that's why the curriculum in the South completely focuses on theory. But when you can't even teach or give directions to learn that theory then why do you offer such a course? The campus life of JCT college is the best part of this college. You get complete freedom and enjoy your life for the time you are on campus.

I'm satisfied with good facilities available on the campus.
Placements: Placements in our college were okay. The placement rate of the college was about 75%. The highest salary offered was Rs. 60,000 per month, the average salary offered was Rs. 31,000 per month and the lowest salary offered was Rs. 20,000 per month. Companies like MRPL, Oiltech Engineering, Universal, etc., have visited our campus for recruitment. They offered roles like apprenticeship training and fresher trainee, etc., to some students. Almost 70% of the students got internships. The college has a placement cell, and it's good.
Infrastructure: The college provided Wi-Fi facility, and it was good. Labs were satisfactory. Since our batch was the first batch of the college, classrooms were good. The library provided all the textbooks written by Indian and foreign authors. The college has a clinic with doctor and nurses to attend during medical emergencies. Sports facilities were good. The canteen available was good. There were no issues with the hostel rooms.
Faculty: Teachers in our college were good, friendly and well-qualified. The quality of teaching was good. They used to teach using blackboard as well as PPTs. The college provided industry exposure. We have visited a few companies like MRPL, ONGC, etc., to gain industrial experience. The course curriculum was good and provided with many core lab sessions and practicals.
Other: Association activities were conducted in all departments. Fests were conducted well including Onam festival. Extracurricular activities like blood donation camp, etc., were conducted.

I'm most satisfied with the college as it helped me to become an entrepreneur.
Placements: We got a lot of practical experience in our college which helped me in starting a business with a government project after completing my degree. During my tenure, I've visited many industries and participated in various entrepreneurship development programs on our campus which proved to be very useful for my career.
Infrastructure: The college provided high-speed Wi-Fi facility. The library has books and journals. A digital library is also available which helps us to improve our knowledge. Smart classrooms are also available. Food served in our canteen is tasty and healthy.
Faculty: The staff members have both industrial and academic experience. They taught us the course very clearly. So, I gained a lot of industry knowledge with their help. Most of the staff members taught us using videos and PPTs. We went to industries, implant training, etc., which helped in my growth. Teachers were well-experienced, and they taught us all the details required to score good marks.

Wi-Fi facilities and smart classrooms are available on our campus. Very tasty and healthy food is available on our campus. Hostel rooms are very neat and are enabled with Wi-Fi facilities.

Industry experienced staff members explain in an industry-oriented manner. They provide useful information which increases my knowledge and help me to grow in my life. Our curriculum is useful.

Q:   How effective is the placement cell for B.E. / B.Tech courses at JCT College of Engineering?

A:
{Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for BE/BTech Courses at JCT College of Engineering

* Poor performance: According to various students' reviews, the placement cell at JCT College of Engineering is ineffective. Only 3-5 recruiting companies visit the campus for placements, offering salary packages ranging between 2.5-6.2 LPA. This suggests that the college fails to provide adequate opportunities for its students.
* Limited internship opportunities: Out of around 350-400 students in the department, only 13% received internships in reputed companies such as ONGC, CPCL, Cetex Petrochemicals, etc. This indicates a lack of effort from the placement cell to secure meaningful internships for students.
* No improvement expected: Despite protests from students regarding poor hostel facilities and food, the college administration did not show significant improvements. Similarly, students do not anticipate any substantial changes in the placement scenario.
* Lack of transparency: Reviews suggest that the college's claims about placements may be exaggerated, and the actual numbers might be lower than advertised. This raises concerns about the honesty and accountability of the placement cell.

Overall, the effectiveness of the placement cell for BE/BTech courses at JCT College of Engineering appears to be subpar, failing to provide satisfactory outcomes for students seeking employment after graduation.
