B.Tech. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2024
Offered by Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology (SCET)
4.2

The management is strict and helps in moulding the students.
Placements: There were 80% placements in the previous passed-out batch. Companies like TCS, Amazon, Byju's, Infosys, Infopark, Agappe and GE Healthcare visit here for placements. Mostly, IT companies visit here for placements. There are special placement cells to contact companies and invite them to conduct placement drives. Our college also takes the initiative to contact alumni for placements.
Infrastructure: I am a hosteller here. There are 3 girls' hostels and one boys' hostel. Every room is shared by 3 students, and there are 3 beds and 3 study tables. None of the rooms have attached bathrooms. However, there are enough common bathrooms. The college has good facilities and commendable infrastructure.
Faculty: Our college offers 6 engineering degree programmes, i.e., biomedical, biotechnology, computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics engineering and civil. It also offers post-graduate programs for 2 engineering courses, i.e., computer science and biotechnology.
Other: Tekon Ketcon is the first KTU's tech fest was organised by Sahrdaya CET. IEDC summit 2019 was organised by Sahrdaya. AKSC (all Kerala student conclave) 2017 was conducted in Sahrdaya. These all are technical events organised by our college. Every year cultural arts fests are conducted, and the participation of students is commendable. In the technical events, external students also participate. I have not applied for scholarships. The college offers scholarships, and there is a concession in fees for students who get scholarships. The eligibility criterion is that students should not have any backlogs, and they should have a minimum of 6 SGPA.

Excellent infrastructure and good teaching quality
Placements: The percentage of students placed from campus placement was less when compared to previous batch, it's mainly due to covid 19. I've studied B.tech in biotechnology which has 80000 per year and I've got the merit seat, there is no difference in the course fee whether you're alloted in merit or in management. Exception is for nri students where remit around 4 lakhs (can be reduced due covid 19) to get the seat after that yearly course is same for everyone. ZIFO, AGAPPE were the companies visited in for recruitment in 2020.
Around 20% of the students (total strength is 63) are pursuing their masters degree in India and abroad, around 17% are working in biotechnology field, and around 20% are doing internships through online and offline in biotech field, I am personally doing an offline internship in KRIBS-BIONEST for around 8 months, rest of the students are trying to get internships and jobs through LinkedIn, internshala and various similar apps. This condition is mainly due to the pandemic situation. None of the freshers are getting better job. In biotech field, experience and degree is important, a student with B.tech biotechnology with no experience will face a lot of difficulties to enter into this field. Only interested students should join this course. Without any interest and passion no one can survive, because to pursue in this filed one should have a lot of patience and a lot of passion to discover new things. Top roles offered in biotech field are less when we go with a bachelor's degree. Doing the master's degree in a well known institute or doing the master's abroad countries like Germany, UK, USA will be a great option. Starting the career in biotech field will be a great start because getting a job as a fresher in biotech field itself is a great thing. Don't look for money when you work in biotech field, money will only come with your experience and skill. Communication skill is a great skill that you need to get a fresher job. Hope the one who's reading this is doing well and if your starting your career I wish you all the best and choose wisely, because your decision now should not become a regret later. Have a great day :).
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure of the sahrdaya college is excellent. Wi-Fi will be available to every students and the password will be given to them separately, labs are good and the facilities inside a lab is also good but if we compare it with a biotech company then we feel our college labs are nothing, but for study purpose those labs are good enough. Classrooms are excellent each having projector because every class will be a power point presentation. Library is the most excellent and beatifully designed place with alot of books and with computers provided for browsing.
Faculty: Teaching quality was good. Every class was taught in English and power point presentation. Course curriculum will not make a student ready for industrial level. Because it lacks a lot of practical knowledge. Theoretical knowledge was only taught and the sessions for practical knowledge was cancelled or cannot be done due to the covid 19 lockdown. Exams was not that difficult the course is basically a theory because in bachelor's degree theoretical knowledge is more focused. Around 90% above was the pass percentage in 2020 batch passout.

A great ambiance. It has good infrastructure and facilities. Rules are not meant to be broken here.
Placements: The placements for my seniors seemed well, but the present state is witnessing less number of companies coming to the campus recruitments. Many major leading companies related to various departments that came here previously are nowhere to see now. The present situation sees nearly 30 percent or less of the students being placed while some number of students are opting for higher studies now. There are no schemes of internships that are provided to the students by the college. There is although a great deal of importance, as well as fundings and stipends, provided for the propagation of student projects, interdisciplinary works, innovative ideas, etc.
Infrastructure: I believe the college is having a very good remark when it comes to infrastructure. The campus is having free Wi-Fi, accessible by an account login. The library facility is worth mentioning because of the large volume of books as well as other e-resources available. There is a doctor available on certain days of a week, and each department is having their own medical kits / first-aid boxes. There is a multi-purpose indoor stadium with the courts for badminton, table tennis, and carrom. There are two basketball courts as well as volleyball courts, a large football field, practice nets for cricket, a multi-gym for both men and women, etc. The labs are well maintained in case of some departments while others still need a great deal of improvement. All the classrooms are well maintained with a computer and a projector each as well as with proper electrical facilities. The hostel facilities are also well and good. It has no single rooms, but free and uninterrupted Wi-Fi, enough washrooms, no strict time for studies, 1.5 hours playtime every day, etc. are there) but the rules are supposed to be strictly followed, and silence is very important here. I believe the canteen here is one of the best among the professional colleges (non-veg is served every day). There is a specific timetable followed for food, and nothing bad can be said about what is served there. In my 3 years of life in here, I've never felt anything wrong with the infrastructure. The amendments and repair of malfunctioned facilities are usually done in time most recently.
Faculty: The college surely has a lot of really great faculty members who can reach the students well and are very helpful when the students need approaches. They are well qualified, with all of them having had their Masters or PhDs. An outcome-based teaching method is usually followed. The labs are also given due importance in the curriculum. There are enough numbers of faculty here to make sure the proper care and attention are given to each student. There is an animator system where 20 students have a faculty as an animator in the class. The proper industry exposure is still not reached. There are certain interactive sessions with industry professionals that occur occasionally but are not frequent. The curriculum is well developed with enough exams, class tests, assignments, etc. as well as free time provided. But sometimes, there is too much of workload.
Other: The prime importance is given to academics, and anything that stands out of it is not promoted here. Projects, startups and academic-related efforts are well supported here. The importance given to the sports, arts, etc. are not satisfactory. There are a large number of organisations active here like IEEE, IEDC, NSS, various clubs like Lions Club, Rotary Club, Aerospace Club, etc. Thus, it can be called a place suitable for those students who are planning to manage their studies well and are aiming to become professionals.

Sahrdaya- Education is dedication.
Placements: Placements were pretty good for computer science, civil engineering, biotechnology and biomedical. Separate coaching sessions were provided by the HR in improving the aptitude level and also for preparing the students to appear for GDs and interviews. Internships were made compulsory, so students need to find the place for doing their internships. The college will only provide guidance in that.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is of a great standard. Sahrdaya is one among the few engineering colleges accredited by NAAC. Moreover, the library in this college is a multi-storey building providing a good exposure of books from varied disciplines. Labs are all well-equipped with qualified lab technicians. The college supports the mental and physical growth of students. Sahrdaya also offers a hostel facility which makes the stay of students a home away from home experience.
Faculty: Faculty members are all well-qualified. They also have good experience in both the teaching field and in industries. The college has a strength of 117 faculty members. In order to increase the efficiency of faculty members, the college conducts faculty development programmes very often.
Other: It is a nice place with a good atmosphere. The college has an eco-friendly campus. The campus expands over many acres of land. It was awarded the Swacch campus award. The campus is well-known for its greenery and eco-friendly environment. The college is approved by AICTE, India and affiliated to Kerala Technical University (KTU).

Bad management and very strict laws.
Placements: Placements are not very good for the past 2 years, before that it was kind of average. Rs 30,000 per month was the average salary offered, highest would be around 50,000 rupees per month and lowest was Rs 18,000 per month. Companies like Infosys and Accenture took the most number of students followed by IBS.
Infrastructure: The college offers very good infrastructure and facilities for academics, but the management is not very supportive for other activities apart from studies or academic related works. The library and classrooms are good with good Wi-Fi labs. Other labs are of average quality. Food in canteen is just above average. Hostel rooms are clean and quite no infrastructure related issues were there for me. But the management is very strict and does not allow much of girl and boy interactions with strict rules for girls in hostel. If you are trying to be an independent person and want to learn new things and experience the joyful college life, this college would never be an option for you. But, if you want to just focus on academics and nothing else, this college is a good option.
Faculty: Faculty here is good. They are helpful at least in my department (Biotechnology). All the teachers are qualified enough and highly trained. All the classrooms are equipped with projectors and teaching method is through PowerPoint presentations. Student to faculty ratio is about 1500:80. Yes, enough of industry exposure was attained as I had attended many internships. Also, the college allows us to go for Industrial visit every year except the first year.
Other: As I mentioned before, the management is very strict here with some absurd laws. People who are looking forward to really enjoy the college life won't get along in here. But those who are really focused on academics only can survive. The campus life and the celebrations are dull. The infrastructure and facilities are good with good faculties but the management is not very supportive especially for girls living in the hostel as they are not given freedom for anything. Also, I would like to mention that use of mobile phones inside the campus is banned.
