Q:   Is Siliguri Institute of Technology Tier 1 or Tier 2?

A:

In general, Siliguri Institute of Technology is categorized as a Tier 2 college. The primary reason is that it focuses a bit on the regional front and the ranking that goes behind it in West Bengal. Though there is always good infrastructure and decent placement probability, it does not enjoy national importance like Tier 1 colleges in the IITs and NITs. Still, this college has quite a good repute in the state to produce competent engineers and is known for its teaching acumen along with campus facilities.

Information about official rankings or placement reports by the institute itself should be sought for further details.

The best college in North Bengal.
Placements: Around 30% of students got placed in my department. The highest salary package offered off-campus is 51 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 2.5 LPA. The average salary package offered is 3 LPA. TCS, Wipro, etc., visit the college. It depends on students if they want to apply for internships and training programs offered by Ed-tech companies. SDE, HR, marketing, and customer support roles are offered.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is weak. Labs are well-equipped. The library is well-maintained. Canteens have delicious food. Classrooms are large and clean. The infrastructure is good. Our college does not offer hostel facilities but we have many PGs, apartments, and rooms near our college.
Faculty: Faculty members are top-notch with Ph.D. degrees. They published research papers. Our college conducts many webinars and conferences which include top professionals from ISRO and foreign professors. The course curriculum is outdated. It is the same as the last 10 years. Semester exams are moderate. Our college falls under MAUKAT, so they set up our paper.
Other: I chose this course because I was offered this course even though I wanted computer science. The best thing about ECE is that it's emerging and CSE demand is decreasing gradually in the market. The course is good but dedication towards this course by my department would have made our department top. Many events and fests are organised. We enjoy being part of organisations. Our campus is surrounded by trees and a garden which gives us fresh air and pace. Swami Vivekanand Scholarship and many others are provided by our college. My college always organises many tech fests, entrepreneurship fests, and many more for the growth of students. Many extracurriculars like poster making, banner making, sports competitions, etc., are held.

SIT- A hidden gem in the lap of North Bengal.
Placements: In our course, the percentage of students who got placed is nearly about 90%. The highest salary package offered by Microsoft last year was 51 LPA. The average salary package offered was 5.5 LPA. Top recruiters of our college are TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, Accenture, P360, and many more. There are a good amount of students who secured internships from our college but that depends upon students themselves.
Infrastructure: There are no hostel facilities in our college. During COVID-19, hostel facilities of our college are topped. Coming to the part of facilities and infrastructure of our course. For B.Tech, there is a main building and a desh building which is generally known as 1st year building. Each building has separate Wi-Fi services on separate floors so that no one could face connectivity issues. They are a basic electrical engineering lab, physics lab, chemistry lab, drawing hall, and AutoCAD room in 1st year building. Also, there is a central library in the center of our campus.
Faculty: Teachers who are in charge of our course are highly qualified and skillful in the field of teaching. They go from bench to bench after completing any topic to ask every student if they are okay with the topic or not. Course curriculum is directly relevant. The vision of our college is to make the students prepare for the industry 4.0. Our college is affiliated with MAKAUT University so the difficulty level of the semester exams depends on the university itself.
Other: From childhood, I was determined to take Computer Science and Engineering and for this particular reason I took WBJEE exam but my rank was 19000. In this rank, I was unable to get into any government college as the fees of private colleges are too high. In this college, I received the TFW for which my whole tuition fee was reduced so I chose this college and this course. There are several events conducted in our college like the social fest, tech fest, annual sports, and many more.

I am absolutely satisfied because of the college faculty and their placement opportunities.
Placements: There are 80 students total in my course. 90% of students got placement from this college. The highest package in my course is 20 lacs per year and the average package is 8 lacs per year. Google and Amazon are the top recruiting companies for my course. 80% of students got internships from my course at Amazon, Flipkart and Google. Software engineering and data science are the top roles offered in my course.
Infrastructure: The faculty members of my college are very helpful. The infrastructure of the college is well designed. The labs and classrooms are also clean and clear. The library of our college is very beautiful. There are so many books to read. But sometimes the Wi-Fi connection of the college is very poor. There is so much good quality food in our college canteen and the medical facilities are very good. We play a lot of sports and games in our college.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and they are also knowledgeable. The teaching quality of the teacher is so good. And if we don't understand anything, then the teacher helps us personally to understand that thing. Yes, this course is curriculum relevant. Yes, it makes the students industry-ready. The pass percentage is 40% in the semester exam.
Other: The course is very hard to understand. Not everyone can understand this course so I joined this course to prove my intelligence. I wish there were some practical work in my course; then it would be better for me. There are not so many events in my college but there is so much crowd. There is a scholarship we got that is called the Swami Vivekanand Scholarship. The college organized a fest in our college. There are so many activities to do in the college, just like gym and sports.

The Siliguri Institute of Technology – The college campus is very good.
Placements: 8.5 CGPA, the highest package is 51 LPA and the lowest package is 2.5 to 3.5 LPA. This college gives everyone basic types of placement and internship from companies like Gapgemini, TCS, etc. Above 7.5 CGPA, communication skills are required. The college mostly offers roles in the spelling department, and there is low chance for GATE high packages.
Infrastructure: Moreover, the vibrant campus life adds value, with a variety of extracurricular activities, clubs, and events that encourage students to explore their interests, build networks, and create lasting memories. These factors together contribute to a fulfilling college experience.
Faculty: Yes, all teachers are helpful. I give the course curriculum 4.5 out of 5. There are no difficulties. The pass percentage for the semester exam is 40% and above. Campus life may feel monotonous due to limited extracurricular activities and events, leaving students with fewer opportunities to explore their interests or develop social connections. These factors collectively hinder the overall college experience.
Other: There are several aspects to appreciate about college life. First, the modern infrastructure often provides students with state-of-the-art facilities, including well-equipped labs, spacious classrooms, and a resource-rich library, which greatly enhance the learning experience. Second, the dedicated faculty stands out, as many professors go beyond just teaching by mentoring students, offering guidance, and creating an engaging academic environment.

Placements: The college offers various placement facilities in top companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. Recently, some of our pass-outs got placements in Ernst and Young. The placement rate is nearly 80%, including all the departments of our college.

Good infrastructure and environment for study of the technical department.
Placements: Placement for the B.Tech department is very good up to 15-18 LPA yearly. But for management, it's very less, especially for the HR and finance major students. Only technical department-related students will get a good scope to enhance their career growth and knowledge.
Infrastructure: The classroom facilities are very good, even the environment, and the teachers are very supportive and helpful. The department organized intra-curriculum activities for engagement of the students, such as brandemonium, management day plan, and business executive plan.
Faculty: Semester final exams are not so strict, but the environment is good. Everything is related to the course topic and subject. Before each final semester exam, CA exams were taken by the respective department faculty members 4 times. 10% of each exam was added to the final semester exam.
Other: Fests were organized during the month of May or June .

A:
