Review of my favourite college.
Placements: Our institution offers a career guidance cell where students can enroll if they intend to pursue employment after completing their degree. Many of those who register are successfully placed in renowned companies such as Deloitte and TCS, with annual packages ranging from 1 to 4 LPA.
Infrastructure: Our department boasts a dedicated laboratory, while the campus features a communal library. While mobile phone usage is restricted in these areas, free Wi-Fi is available in our expansive open-air theater, accommodating up to 3000 students. The University provides three separate hostels for undergraduates and one for postgraduates.
Faculty: The faculty comprises a diverse group of professors, each specializing in different disciplines. While there may be variations in teaching abilities, overall, they effectively deliver the curriculum. As undergraduate students, we are still in the process of academic development, and the faculty actively supports us.

This is a wonderful college with a great campus and lots of opportunities.
Placements: We have a career guidance cell in which we can register if we want to work after completing the degree and most of them who register gets selected in various companies like deloite, CTS and many more and the package is like from 1lakh to 4 Lacs per annum and we get internship in many feilds like research centre and also in some companies.
Infrastructure: 1. Our department have a separate lab and we have a common library and since we are not allowed to use our phones there is no free Wi-Fi but we have free Wi-Fi in our open air theatre which can accommodate around 3000 students 2. We have 3 different hostels for UGs and one hostel for PGs and they all have a common mess and we have 24/7 medical attention and we also have a nurse who is always here.
Faculty: 1. Yes they are and we have a good range of professors who are specialised in different fields. And we have to accept the fact that not everyone can teach well. Even though there are some ups and downs they manage to teach us well 2. Since we are in UG we still have a long way to go. But they help us to make researches and making us good.
Other: 1. I wanted to write competitive exams and this course gives me a wide knowledge in chemistry, maths as my allied and also we have lots of general elective subjects despite of department and we have lots of language learning programmes. Every year we conduct lot of cultural fest and lots inter and intra college programs and we also have NSS, YRC and NCC which does lots of social services activities.

Great canteen, good infrastructure, okay management and bad Physics department.
Placements: Students with an average of 60 percentage were eligible to apply for the various companies. Being a science student, we weren't offered many companies and the ones offered were also not under our discipline in most cases. Salary ranged from 10 thousand to a maximum of 17 thousand maybe. Most of the companies were IT and banks. As told before, the roles weren't from our discipline so we had to change the course.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is very good in many aspects, be it the various sports ground, classrooms etc. Personally, our physics lab could use a hand as the equipment there are not up to the level. Moving on to the canteen, it is one of the best with a variety of choices. Hostel rooms as far as I have heard are good but the fees are a bit higher. They also charge very high for extra usages like phone, laptop and charger. There is no uniformity in the rules within the four hostels as well.
Faculty: Faculty members from my department aren't that good. A couple of them are very good, whereas the others aren't that knowledgeable. They hardly use different methods in teaching and there aren't that qualified for the job. No industrial visit happened for our batch as well as for our senior batches. The student to faculty ratio is also very low.

Good facilities and infrastructure.
Placements: The placements were done based on the candidate's ability to handle situations. The content of the syllabus provides the basis to perform well in the interviews. About 50% of the students got placed. About 50% received internships based on their interests.
Infrastructure: One of the best features of the college is the presence of a well-stocked library, which provides interdisciplinary insight. The college encourages young talent in sports and games and has made it mandatory for every student. The labs are well-maintained, equipped with the necessities. The quality of food in the canteen is good. The college always comes up with new ideas such as millet spoons as an effort to march towards a plastic-free environment. The presence of many blocks assigned for each department motivates the faculty and students to utilise them to the fullest. I haven't faced any issues regarding the infrastructure.
Faculty: The faculty encourages its students to push beyond limits, motivating students and keeping them updated. The course curriculum is focused such that the students are equipped well to make progress in their respective fields. Moreover, the syllabus is revised on a regular basis.

Q:   How is CGPA calculated in Stella Maris College, Chennai?

A:

Since I don't have access to real-time data, I can only speak on what is known as of September 2021. Stella Maris College in Chennai and other educational institutions may use different methods to calculate CGPAs (Cumulative Grade Point Averages). For the most accurate and current information, it is crucial to confirm the precise CGPA calculation technique with the college administration or to refer to the official student handbook.

However, in general, the following processes are used to calculate CGPA:

Grade Point: Based on the student's performance, each course or subject is often given a grade, such as an A, B, C, D, or F, with corresponding Grade Points (GP) attached to each grade. For instance:

A: 10 Grade Points, please
B: 8 Grade Points in

C: Grade six points
D: 4 Grade Points
F: 0 grade points (signifying failure)
Credit Hours: Each course has a specific amount of credits, which signify the course's weight or significance. A 3-credit course, for example, is thought to be more important than a 2-credit course.

Calculating CGPA: Use the procedures below to determine the CGPA for a particular time period (such as a semester or academic year):

Divide each course's Grade Point by the appropriate number of Credit Hours.
Total the weighted Grade Points earned over that time period across all courses.
Subtract the total number of completed credit hours from the weighted grade point total.
Typically, the CGPA computation formula is as follows:

CGPA is calculated as (Total Weighted Grade Points / Total Credit Hours).

It's crucial to keep in mind that Stella Maris College can have its own unique grading, credit, and CGPA computation schemes. For further information on how the CGPA is determined at Stella Maris College, students should consult the college's formal academic policies, the student handbook, or their academic advisors.
