Children of Central Government Employees, irrespective of their nativity, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years can be eligible to apply.
Sons & daughters of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply. A Self declaration from the parent in this regard is to be produced.

Overall I am satisfied with my life at Velammal Engineering College.
Placements: In my department, there are 54 students in the final year. Out of these, 48 students are eligible for attending the placement. Only 12 out of 48 got placed in companies like Infosys, Wipro, MindTree and EmbedUR. I am not exactly sure about the salary package, but it is closely near to 4 LPA. Most of the students got the roles of Associate Software Engineer. We do have a Training and Placement Cell in our college and they are doing the best they can to boost the count of the companies visiting the college but due to the student's insufficient knowledge, the count of unemployed engineering graduates is going up. Our college does't help the students in getting internships. The students themselves are asking for internships on their own and the pay is around INR 5000.
Infrastructure: I am not quite sure about other departments lab, but I can say that EIE department has good lab facilities along with knowledgeable faculty members. Classrooms are not bad but could be better. We do have canteens and mess which provides good quality food at fair price. The hostel rooms are fine but my friends staying at hostel complain saying that hostel price is above par. Our college is not as big as other colleges, but it has got what a college of good standards should have. Wi-Fi has been recently established around our block and so I don't have anything against my college or department on it.
Faculty: Few of my department faculty members come here after working few years in Industries but some faculty members with more experience but less knowledge stay only on the basis of experience. Teaching methods could be better. The ratio is about 55:1. Our labs have adequate components to simulate the real-time atmosphere and yes, I did get exposed to Industry approach. Course curriculum should be changed and it is not up to the mark.
Other: Events and Fest took place during the last month and I get scholarships every year through scholarships. Gov. In. I am involved in Chess and Football. My college is famous for Kabaddi team.

A review on VEC if it is worth to choose for a better career.
Placements: Mostly, they are training for only IT placement, and only IT companies are coming. There are core placements in very rare cases. The management itself is showing more importance in IT placement more than core placement. IT placements are also in a pathetic situation, and also, the placement is shared among the partner institutions.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi with restricted access is provided in some instances, usage of cell phones is prohibited inside the campus. Labs are well maintained. The classrooms are also maintained well. The library is present and contains all technical journals, books but no literary resources. The medical facilities are provided, and the worst maintenance of sports ground. Quality of food is the worst.
Canteen facilities are also the worst.
Faculty: We get less industry exposure. Too much partiality is observed. The teachers are good in their own domain but not in the social behaviour of the current generation. The course curriculum is effectively good in papers but not delivered for application purpose. Syllabus completion and conducting the test is given more importance than teaching.
Other: The only event conducted here is the technical symposiums, and students of the same college and different departments shouldn't participate in one. The poor extracurricular activity works. There is a very remote campus surrounding, very small campus area.

It is okay to join but the faculty doesn't teach with proper examples.
Placements: The placements are good, but they provide placements only in IT sectors. So it's fair but according to our aim, it is not good. So the college has to take responsibility about this query of the students. But if they provide for non-IT sectors, the placement will be very good.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good. All laboratory facilities are available over here. They also give importance to sports and games. Our college has a ground for separate sports and indoor games facilities are also available. Wi-Fi option is not available in the college. It is available only in the library.
Faculty: The faculty doesn't have the proper knowledge to guide us. Because the portion was so big, they concentrated only on finishing the syllabus. So our students also suffered a lot. They need to change the methodology of teaching.
Other: Please don't choose this college. If you choose this college, then choose EEE department. Only EEE is good in our college. But sports and games, hostels etc. are good. The lab attendants have more knowledge compared to the faculty.

Medium grade college to study.
Placements: In our college, there are good placements for the IT sectors. But the core companies visit rarely.
But in IT, they recruit in large numbers.
The companies are Infosys, Wipro, CTS, etc.
The highest salary is 3.8 LPA. Only a few students had done their internship because in our college they won't give permission to all, as the internship duration is too much.
Infrastructure: Our college is a Wi-Fi enabled campus but they won't give the password for students.
The computer laboratory has enough computers but only with a few peripherals for many computers. The library is good.
Only a basic first aid medication is available.
24 hrs ambulance service is available.
They will give importance to studies first. They are concerned about basketball only. Classrooms are spacious. Hostel rooms and facilities are good but the mess food is not up to the level for the amount we are paying. But the canteen food is somewhat good.
Faculty: In our college, most of the faculty members have done or are doing their PhDs but most of the faculty members won't give their best teaching to improve their skills. Instead, they will train students to get marks in university exams.
Few faculty members are there who really give their best to enrich students' knowledge to survive in this competitive world.
Most of the faculty members teach what the book contains and do not show it practically.
Other: In our college, they have maintained a good garden and environment. We can relax out there. It has indoor stadiums too.
There is no separate ground for the college. Mess food is not worthy of the money we are paying. The laboratory also closes and we don't get time to spend there.

Other: I have mixed reviews for this college, even though campus placements and coursework is good, but there is not much of a campus life to cherish in the campus. It is all about studies and almost no extracurricular activities. Things such as sports are not much encouraged, not even 10% of importance is given to sports as given to tests and coursework. Teachers at times are not competent in explaining certain aspects of the course that may happen at times with everyone but the faculty members do not even attempt to tackle this issue, they just carry on
