Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) is one of the major design exams for M.Des and Ph.D. Programmes. It is conducted by well-known institute, IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay will conduct the CEED 2025 entrance exam on January 19, 2025. So, you have a few months left to prepare for the exam. Q: What is the difficulty level of CEED?
CEED is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to the M.Des program. The difficulty level of the exam is typically moderate to high.
But note that the difficulty level may vary from year to year.
In the last edition of the exam, Part A moderately difficult, whereas Part B was moderate. These inputs were shared by candidates who appeared in the entrance exam.
As per the official CEED 2025 exam pattern, the exam is divided into two parts i.e. Part A and Part B.
Part A of the question paper will contain objective questions of three types: Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Choice Question (MCQ), and Multiple Select Question (MSQ). This will be an online test.
Part B of the CEED 2025 exam will include five questions on drawing, design, and writing skills. The CEED Part-B answers have to be written in the answer booklet provided by the invigilator, and questions will be given on the computer screen. Marking Criteria

Q: How many sample papers do I need to solve to prepare for CEED 2025?
If you start solving sample papers late in your exam preparation, you must be able to solve around 10-12 sample papers. However, if you start solving sample papers early on, it is not exactly the quantity that you are focusing on.
For instance, if you complete a chapter and solve all the relevant problems givn in the sample paper, it will also be very effective. And you can repeat this model for other topics as well. The only difference here is you are not solving the entire sample paper in one go in this case. Rather attacking it one chapter or topic at a time.
And once you complete the entire syllabus, you can then attempt the complete sample paper.
Q: Is CEED a tough entrance exam?
The difficulty level of CEED exam is maintained by authorities over the years. However, most design aspirants share that if the difficulty level of all design entrance exams conducted for PG level courses is compared then CEED is slightly easier than the NID Entrance Exam. This is primarily because the drawing questions asked in NID DAT are considered to be tougher than those put forth in the CEED exam.
The application form for NID DAT 2024 is currently open. The last date to apply for NID DAT 2024 without late fees is December 1, 2023.
Q: What is the weightage of CEED Part A exam?
In Part A of the CEED exam, candidates have to attempt 41 questions. Part A of the CEED exam includes MSQs, MCQs, and NAT questions. Maximum marks that aspirants can secure in the CEED Part A exam are 100. Its weightage is 25%.
Part A will be a computer-based exam of 1 hour duration. Note that the CEED exam has two parts - Part A and Part B. Both parts are mandatory.
If a candidate attempts Part A, but doesn’t attempt Part B, he or she will not be considered for admission.

The CEED 2025 exam will be held around the 3rd week of Jan 2025. So, aspiring candidates can start preparing for the exam.

CEED 2025 Course:
One must be aware of the exam syllabus and the relatable topics to crack the particular exam. The CEED 2025 syllabus includes multiple study topics divided as per Part A and Part B. CEED 2025 syllabus for Part A:
- Visualization and spatial ability: This part is to test the candidate’s skills in 2D & 3D figures, spatial relations, diagrams & pictorial questions.
- Environmental and social awareness: One must do preparations to solve questions related to environmental factors and socio-cultural aspects and their impact on designing solutions. These can be based on climatic factors, demographics, water, vegetation, pollution, natural resources, history of art, sculpture and literature.
- Analytical and logical reasoning: This section is made to assess the logical and structured thinking of the candidate.
- Language and creativity: The questions from this section are to test the understanding of common English language passages and to find relatable answers.
- Design thinking and problem solving: The candidate is required to solve design-based problems.
- Observation and design sensitivity: This will include questions related to day-to-day life problems and their critical solutions.
CEED 2025 syllabus for Part B:
- Drawing & rendering skills:One must know to make the quality drawing, fine compositions, scale & proportion, perspective figures and more to crack CEED 2023 exam.
- Creativity:This section is to examine the candidate’s fresh perspective and creative mind.
- Visual communication:Questions will be based on imaginative situations. Candidates are required to put visual or textual solutions to it.
- Problem-solving:This part ticks the ability of context understanding, the idea of material properties and their design solutions.

No, SPA Delhi MDes admissions are entrance-based. As per the official brochure, candidates willing to take admission to this programme must have a valid CEED score. Based on these scores, students are ranked and allocated a seat. Moreover, the students must also fulfill the eligibility requirements
