NIFT Courses - Admission process
Admission to UG and PG design courses at the NIFTs is conducted in the following sequence:
- Start of online application - Online applications for NIFT opens typically in November or December. Eligible candidates need to duly fill out and submit the form.
- Download admit cards and appear in NIFT written exams - The written exams comprise the CAT and GAT. While GAT is common across all programs, the CAT paper is only mandatory for B.Des and M.Des applicants.
- Declaration of written exam results - The results of the NIFT written exams will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test/Personal Interview.
- Conduct of Situation Test/ Personal Interview - Eligible candidates will have to appear in this round at their allotted exam centers.
- Declaration of FINAL merit lists - The final merit list of NIFT will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the written exams and Situation Test /Personal Interview.
- Counseling and seat allotment - The allotment of seats will be done on the basis of the NIFT merit rank of the candidate, and the course and NIFT campus opted for by the candidate.

A. The combined seat intake for the B.Des program at the NIFTs stand at 3399 seats. The B.Des program offers specializations in six disciplines.

A. No, only B.Des candidates need to appear in the Situation Test. Meanwhile, M.Des candidates who get shortlisted need to appear in a personal interview.
Q. What are the specializations offered in the B.F.Tech program?
A. The B.F.Tech program offers speaization in Apparel Production (AP). Currently, the program has an intake of 591 seats.
Q. Can I get admission to design courses at NIFT based on merit of qualifying exam marks?
A. Admission to design courses at the NIFTs will be strictly based on NIFT 2025 merit rank. Qualifyinge exam marks will only be used to ascertain the eligibiity criteria of the candidate.
Q. Are there any seats reserved for NRI/Foreign nationals in the NIFTs?
A. Yes, there are a few seats reserved for each course at the NIFTs. In total, there are 473 seats that have been earmarked for NRI/Foreign nationals. Admisson to these seats will be based on merit of qualifying exam.
Q. How many NIFTs participate in the seat-allotment process?
A. There are a total of 18 NIFTs that participate in the joint counseling process. Admisison to these institutes is strictly based on NIFT merit rank.
