The new and revised UCEED syllabus should be followed by candidates who will be appearing in the design entrance exam in 2024 and beyond.

IIT Bombay has introduced a new and revised syllabus for UCEED that will be followed for administering the entrance exam effective 2024 onward. This means candidates appearing in UCEED 2024 and in later editions of the exam need to follow this new and revised syllabus. However, candidates appearing in UCEED 2023 can keep following the current syllabus for the exam.

In addition to the revised syllabus, IIT Bombay has also made some major changes to the UCEED entrance exam. For example, the UCEED entrance exam commencing 2024 will continue to have two Parts - Part A and Part B. However, Part B will now be of 60 minutes duration (instead of 30 minutes) and include two questions (instead of one).

What is new and revised UCEED syllabus and exam pattern?

  • Topics added and removed - A new topic Practical and scientific knowledge has been added, while the topic Design thinking and problem-solving has been dropped. 
  • Time duration of Part B - The paper will now be 60 minutes duration. Currently, Part B is of 30 minutes.
  • Number of questions in Part B - There will be two questions; currently, only one question is asked.

Revised Syllabus for UCEED Part B

Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.

Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.

Q:   Why should students consult UCEED syllabus?

A:
The syllabus of UCEED is meant to help the candidate identify which topics are important and which topics arent. Also, questions in the exam will be asked from the topics mentioned in the syllabus. Note that UCEED syllabus has been revised, and will be effective from 2024 onward. So, instead of wandering aimlessly, with the syllabus in hand, the candidate will be able to know which direction they need to move. To prepare for the exam, the candidate must also consult the exam pattern, which has details like the weightage carried by various sections, marking scheme, test duration, types of questions asked, etc.

Q:   When will the UCEED 2025 syllabus be released?

A:

IIT Bombay has released the syllabus for UCEED 2025. 

This syllabus is followed for drafting the UCEED question paper starting 2024 (onward).

So, if you are planning  to appear in UCEED 2025 exam, you must follow the official syllabus.

The UCEED syllabus contains the topics that candidates need to prepare for the national-level design entrance exam. As per changes made to the UCEED syllabus, Part B question paper now include two questions.

Q:   Can I solve previous year's papers considering UCEED 2025 syllabus has been changed?

A:

The UCEED 2025 exam will have two sections - Part A and Part B. While the syllabus has been revised for the exam, there are still some topics that overlap. For instance, Part A still continues to have the Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Observation and Design sensitivity, and a few other topics from the various edition. So, candidates can use the previous years papers to practice these topics. For the other topics, the candidate can try out sample papers.

In addition to the syllabus, IIT Bombay has also revised the UCEED 2025 exam pattern.

Part A will now have 57 questions (down from 68), while Part B will have two questions (instead of 1).

Q. Do I need to follow the new and revised syllabus for UCEED 2023?

A. The new and revised syllabus will come into effect only from 2024. So, UCEED 2023 aspirants can keep following the old syllabus.

As per the revised syllabus for the UCEED exam, the question paper continues to have two parts - Part A and Part B. Also, Part A will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode and will have three sections NAT MSQ, and MCQ). However, Part B now has two sections - 1) the Drawing-based section, and 2) the Design Aptitude Section.

Note that Part A will include 57 questions, while Part A will have two questions.

The candidate needs to refer to the detailed syllabus and pattern when preparing for the UCEED 2025 exam.

The candidate must practice these subtopics and sample and previous years question papers to prepare for the exam.

Q:   What is evaluated by the environment and society section of the UCEED 2025 syllabus?

A:

This environment and society section of UCEED 2025 will examine the general awareness of the candidate in environment-related matters, including climate change, population and demography, vegetation, water, pollution, natural resources, etc. The candidate also needs to study the implication of these subjects on design of products, images, infrastructure, and environment. So, the candidate must know how various facets social and cultural connections are intertwined with design, the history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. The candidate must study, among others, the following topics to prepare for the section: Environmentally Sustainable Designs, Indian Cultural Background & Famous Structures, Musical instruments, Musical Maestros, Dance forms, Crafts and Dresses. History of Indian Art/Design, An overview of World Art, Art and Architecture, Social and Cultural relation with Art/Design.

A. The revised syllabus include a few new topics like “Practical and scientific knowledge”, while the topic “Design thinking and problem solving” has been dropped.
