Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. IIT Bombay placements are conducted in two phases every year. Phase-I is conducted in December and Phase-II is conducted in January.

IIT Bombay Placements Report 2019

IIT Bombay placement drive for candidates passing out in 2019 was conducted for a year. It started in July 2018 and ended on June 30, 2019. Interview procedure of phase-1 – the main event of IIT Bombay placement 2019 was conducted between December 01 and December 16, 2018.

During this phase, 361 companies participated to provide placement offers and Pre-Placement Offers (PPO) to candidates. A total of 1,695 students registered for placements and 1,996 students registered for internship programmes.

According to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, this is an all-time high record considering in terms of students placed during phase-I of the placement season. The highest domestic Cost to Company (CTC) offered in phase-I of IIT Bombay placements 2019 is Rs 45 lakh per annum.

The initial phase of IIT Bombay 2019 Placement included a variety of firms from sectors like Engineering & Technology, Oil & Gas, IT & Software, Electronic Hardware, Data Analytics, Consulting, Finance/Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG).

The last three year data for total student placements across different programs reflects an upward trend, particularly for BTech and MTech courses. The total number of students offered placement in 2018-19 was 1186 with 475 offers in BTech programs alone which is encouraging for any engineering aspirant targetting admission in 2019-20 season.

IIT Bombay Placement 2019 Sector-Wise Offers

  • The highest number of offers were rolled out in the engineering and technology sector followed by IT/Software
  • Samsung was the top recruiter with 27 offers (highest offers)
  • Microsoft emerged as the top recruiter as it offered the highest salary package of Rs 1.5 crore per annum

Computer Science followed by Electrical and Chemical are the most popular courses where students are offered internship opportunities based on last three years report. Unlike the placement offers, internship opportunities show a downward trend based of 6 per cent from 2016-17 season to 2018-19 season.

IIT Bombay Placement 2018

Given below are all relevant details on phase-I of IIT Bombay placements 2018. Note: Complete report on IIT Bombay placements 2018 is yet to be out.

IIT Bombay Phase-I Placements 2018

As per media reports, this year IIT Bombay students have secured 1,122 offers (including pre-placement) from 361 companies. As per the institute, this is an all-time high record considering the number of students placed during phase-I of the placement season. The highest domestic CTC offered in phase-I IIT Bombay placements is Rs 45 lakh per annum. On the other hand, the highest international CTC offered in phase-I placements is $1.64 lakh.         

Out of all the sectors, the highest number of offers were rolled out in the engineering and technology sector with an average package of Rs 18.5 lakh per annum. However, IIT Bombay's highest package was offered in the IT & Software sector at Rs 21.29 lakh per annum. For further clarity on IIT Bombay average package offered in different sectors candidates can refer the table below:

IIT Bombay Placements 2017 for BTech, BTech+MTech (Dual Degree) & MTech

This year, Microsoft emerged as the top recruiter for IIT Bombay with the highest salary package offer of Rs 1.5 crore per annum. Samsung emerged as another top recruiter with the highest number of offers – 27. Apart from the above, three PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) also recruited 13 students from IIT Bombay this year.    

Like every year, IIT Bombay placements 2017 for BTech, BTech+MTech (Dual Degree) and MTech courses were conducted in two phases.

At the end of the placement year, a total of 320 jobs were given by 82 companies to BTech and MTech students at IIT Bombay. Various Public Sector Units (PSUs) were also invited by the institute for campus placements.

As stated above, in 2017, a total of 82 organizations from the engineering and technology sector participated in campus placements and hired 320 students. To check the distribution of job offers made in various sectors, candidates can refer to the table below:

In 2017, a total of 514 BTech students participated in campus placements out of which 438 students were successfully placed. Similarly, the number of BTech+MTech (dual degree) and MTech students that participated in last year’s campus placements was 174 and 489, respectively.

Out of these, the number of students that made through IIT Bombay campus placements was 157 (for BTech+MTech) and 403 (MTech). For further clarity, candidates can refer to the table below:
