Q:   Are the JEE Mains and JEE Advance syllabi the same?

A:
No, not exactly the same. Topics in Mathematics such as Sets Relations and Functions Mathematical Induction, Binomial Theorem and its Applications, Sequences and Series, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Probability are there in the syllabus for Mains but not in the syllabus for Advanced. Topics like Differential Equations and Probability are exclusively there only for the JEE Advanced. Physics Topics such as Oscillations and Waves Electromagnetic Waves Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Electronic Devices, Communication Systems, and Experimental Skills are exclusive to JEE Mains and not JEE Advanced. Topics like Mechanics are exclusive to JEE Advanced but not JEE Mains. Similarly, The syllabus is quite different for Chemistry for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Many topics in Mains are not needed for Advanced.

JEE Advanced 2025 Preparation Tips

Candidates preparing for JEE Main & JEE Advanced can review various important exam preparation tips, important books, the revision process, and so on. Check out all of the relevant exam preparation tips.

1. Do Not Ignore NCERT Books
The NCERT books are written by some of India's brightest minds, and they are precise and concise. Your preparation should begin with NCERT books. Read these books carefully and complete all of the back exercises. Try the 'example problems' as well for more practice with objective questions. Keep in mind that reading and comprehending the NCERT books are not the same thing.

2. Do Your Best to Prepare for Board Exams
Though your Class XII marks are no longer required for JEE Main & Advanced rank determination as of last year, it is still critical that you perform well in the board exams. You must give your all to the Board. Because both the Board and the JEE Mains are administered by the CBSE, good preparation for the Board is beneficial to prepare for the JEE Mains. Unlike the JEE Mains, the Board Exam contains subjective questions, so get in the habit of answering them.

3. Which is more important: How long you studied or how much you studied?
Honestly, unless you know how to study, neither of these. It makes little difference how long or how much you study if you cram definitions and formulae. It is far preferable to comprehend and develop a clear concept. Once you've figured out 'how to study,' you should concentrate on how many topics you can cover in a given amount of time.

4. Make a Weekly Plan
Don't plan for a day because it might not be completed due to an unavoidable event on that day (you might be sick). If you plan for a week, you have other days to make up for it. Make a reasonable plan for JEE Advanced 2025 that you can complete by the end of the week. If the plan is feasible, you must not postpone it to the following week.

5. Learn from Your Test Mistakes
Many tests are available, both offline and online. It is critical to develop the habit of taking tests in the same format regularly. What is more important is that you learn from your mistakes in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced Mock Tests. If you can correct those errors after each test, your performance will gradually improve all the way through. This is the only way to bridge the gap between preparation and performance while also improving exam temperament.

Also Check: How to Crack JEE Advanced 2025 Without Coaching With Self Study

6. Do Not Rack up Book Collections
Apart from NCERT, it is preferable to follow one book thoroughly rather than too many and complete none of them. The book that followed had to be genuine. It is best not to follow study materials from various institutions because they place too much emphasis on one topic while completely ignoring the other. The new pattern expects you to read and understand each topic.

7. Complete the Syllabus
All of the questions in the exams are drawn from the JEE Main and JEE Advanced syllabuses. Some intelligent questions will be used to assess your ability to apply the concept, but they are not from the syllabus. When studying from a foreign reference book, you may end up learning things that aren't on the syllabus. Cracking JEE is akin to crossing a river in a boat carrying the maximum amount of cargo. If you take more than the allowed amount, the boat will sink.

8. Create a Revision Strategy
Make a study schedule that works for you. Do not restart before a few weeks of testing. Try not to try anything new right before the exam because it will waste your time and cause you to forget what you have already learned. Assume you have eighteen days before the exam and you revise chemistry for the first six days, physics for the next six days, and mathematics for the last six days. It is possible that after eighteen days of revision, you will be unable to recall some important chemistry points. As a result, make an effort to study at least two subjects per day.

Q:   How to prepare for organic Chemistry in JEE advanced?

A:
Organic Chemistry is the detailed study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing compounds. It includes concepts like the hybridisation of carbon, phenol and benzene etc. The weightage of organic Chemistry in the Chemistry paper of JEE is around 30-40%. Rightly it is the most critical part of Chemistry where scoring is important to occupy a high rank in IIT JEE. To prepare it: 1) First and foremost be thorough with the syllabus - as mentioned in JEE notification, you must remember every single term by heart. 2) Start with Basics - NCERT is like the holy book for centre exams as JEE considers it correct for information read it thoroughly and do the exemplar problems. Also clear foundation concepts like Electronic Effects, Acidic and Basic strengths, bonding in Organic compounds and basics of Organic reaction mechanisms. 3) Understand concept- Unlike inorganic Chemistry it needs a deep understanding of concepts and mechanisms. Do not hesitate to take the help of supplementary books, websites even youtube to understand concepts. 4) Focus on nomenclature - As to understand the mechanism and structure of organic compounds, we must first understand how they are named. 5) Try to have good command on reactions as they are the essence of organic Chemistry and around 90% of the questions come from there only. Most importantly practice as much as you can to sail through this subject.

How to Manage Time in JEE Advanced Exam?

Effective time management during the JEE Advanced exam helps you attend all sections and maximise your scoring. Here are some time management tips for JEE Advanced:

Practice Time Management: Solve mock tests in the given time before you take your exam. It will give you a feel of the pressure and can help you design some strategy that works for you.

Time distribution: Familiarize yourself with the exam structure and the number of questions in each section. Know which sections carry more marks or are more time-consuming. First, divide the total time available for the exam by the number of sections to come up with a rough estimate of the time that can be given to each section. For example, if you have 3 hours to answer 3 sections, then about 1 hour per section should be a good estimate.

Prioritize the sections: Start with the sections you are most confident about. An initial feel-good will keep you moving with great momentum and help in reducing anxiety.

Read Instructions Carefully: Spend a few minutes at the beginning of your test reading through all the instructions word for word. Note the scheme of marking, negative marking if any, and particular instructions about each section.

Time Management within Sections:

  • Break Each Section: Just have a quick look at the section to get an idea of how many questions are there and their relative difficulty.
  • Plan Your Approach: Determine the time you would spend on each question. Some questions may take more time than others; therefore, always be flexible.
  • Avoid Hard Questions: If you come across one that does not look easy then do so by moving to other easy ones. Always mark such a question for review to get back to it in case there is time left.

Use Your Strengths: Attempt questions you are most confident about first; this not only gets you in the right mindset but also saves time for the difficult ones later.

Stay Calm and Focused: If you get the feeling that you are running out of time, don't panic. Stay focused on the question at hand and manage the remaining time to the best of your abilities.

If you follow the above tips, and in the course of your preparation, you practice the time management strategy, you will then be able to manage the time in the JEE Advanced test and thus be better set at doing well in it.
