CDS Vacancies 2025: UPSC announced the approximate CDS  1 Vacancies 2025 on December 11, 2024, along with the CDS 1 notification. UPSC released the 457 CDS 1 approximate Vacancy 2025 separately for IMA (Indian Military Academy), INA (Indian Naval Academy), AFA (Air Force Academy) & OTA (Officers Training Academy).

Selection of candidates against CDS vacancies 2025 will be done based on the written exam and SSB interview. After undergoing training at the respective defence academies, candidates will be recruited as Commissioned Officers to the post of lieutenant in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. During training, candidates will receive a stipend of INR 56,100 per month. A total of 457 vacancies are announced for CDS 1 2025.

Candidates can check below a few important points related to CDS 2025 vacancy:

  • Candidates are required to indicate in the respective column of the CDS application form the services they wish to apply
  • Male candidates can give as many preferences for services
  • Women candidates are only eligible for the Officers' Training Academy (OTA)
  • Male candidates competing for Short Service Commission (Army) should indicate OTA as the only choice
  • Male candidates applying for the Short Service Commission Course at OTA as well as the Permanent Commission course at IMA, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy, should indicate OTA as their last preference
  • Candidates who wish to join the Air Force Academy must indicate AFA as their first choice
  • No change of choice once entered by candidates in the application form of CDS will be allowed

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria to appear for CDS exam?

Hi Sarang, Educational qualification: Indian Military Academy/Officers' Training Academy: The candidates must possess a degree from a recognised university or equivalent. Indian Naval Academy: The candidates must possess a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Air Force Academy: The candidates must possess a degree of a recognised university with Physics and Mathematics at Class 12 level or Bachelor of Engineering. Graduates with first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are required to submit a proof of graduation provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB interview at the SSB. For CDS exam, applicants can be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, candidates should have studied Physics and Maths up to Class 12. Candidates who are studying in the final year degree course and are yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to subject a proof of passing the degree examination. The CDS selection process comprises various stages: At the first stage, the candidates have to take the written test which is of 300 marks (for INA, IMA and AFA) and 200 marks (OTA). The candidates qualifying the written exam will be called for the SSB Interview. At the second stage, the candidates have to undergo the vigorous 5 days interview in which the candidates are assessed on the physical, psychological and analytics level. The SSB interview is followed by the medical test in which the candidates are assessed on physical standards In the final stage merit list is released along with the release of the CDS results.

The highest rank attainable through CDs is the rank of general which is a 4-stared officer position.

it is a general in the army, Admiral in the Navy and  Air Chief Marshal in the Air Force.

The CDS 1 application form 2025 will be available from December 11 to 31, 2024. The CDS 1 2025 exam will be conducted on April 13, 2025. CDS 2 notification will be released in May 2025, the last date for application will be 17th June 2025 and the exam will be conducted on 14, September 2025.
