The National Testing Agency NTA has been entrusted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to conduct the Joint CSIR UGC NET exam to determine the eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (LS) in Indian universities and colleges. There will be five papers: Mathematical Science, Life Science, Chemical Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Normally, NTA CSIR UGC NET is conducted twice a year in June and December. The CSIR NET exam is held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

The CSIR NET exam is conducted for the Junior Research Fellowship and for the Lectureship in Science and Technology subjects. The eligibility criteria for the CSIR NET are as follows:
(a) Academic criteria:
- The applicant must have a degree in any of the following: B.Tech, BE, B.Pharma MBBS B.Sc. (Hons. ), or M.Sc.
- Candidates with Bachelor's-level degrees, such as B.Tech, can only apply for JRFs and not lectureships.
- The applicant must have a minimum of 55 percent in their degree course.
(b) Age criteria:
- The upper age limit for CSIR NET is 28 years for JRF, which is relaxed to 5 years for certain categories.
- If you want to apply for the position of assistant professor, there is no age limit.

CSIR NET Exam Pattern 2024
The CSIR UGC NET Exam is conducted for a total of five subjects – Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences. Although the CSIR NET question paper for each subject differs, the pattern of creation of papers is largely the same.
CSIR NET Question Paper 2024 for each subject contains objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 200 marks. Each CSIR UGC NET paper is divided into three parts – A, B and C. Questions in Part A are common for all candidates. Questions in Parts B and C differ as per the subject chosen by the candidate.
Each part of the CSIR NET exam contains a different number of questions. Total questions that candidates need to attempt also differ as per the subject chosen by the candidate. The total duration in which candidates need to complete the exam is three hours.
