Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Exam Pattern 2023: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) releases Indian Coast Guard yantrik exam pattern along with the notification. The exam pattern is such that it is divided into four stages-I, II, III & IV. Indian Coast Guard exam pattern for Yantrik (Electrical) carries sections-I and III, Yantrik (Electronics) carries sections-I and IV, Yantrik (Mechanical) carries sections-I and V. Section I is common for all the posts and carries questions from Maths, Science, English, Reasoning and GK. Section III, IV and V carries questions from diploma level engineering (Electrical/Electronics and Mechanical). The Section I carries 60 marks while Section III, IV and V carries 50 marks. Indian Coast Guard Navik recruitment is strictly based on ability and merit of the candidates. Candidates have to qualify several stages for final selection.Indian Coast Guard exam pattern highlights the overall structure of the exam such as the marking scheme, total marks, section-wise distribution of questions and many more. Candidates preparing for Indian Coast Guard Yantrik exam should be well versed with the exam pattern as it will help them in strategising their preparation. 

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Exam Pattern for Stage I

The Stage I is conducted in Computer Based mode. The section I of Indian Coast Guard Yantrik exam pattern is common for all posts-Yantrik (Electrical), Yantrik (Electronics), and Yantrik (Mechanical). The question paper for section I, III, IV & V is objective type with four options. Candidates have to choose the correct option. There is no negative marking in the written examination test. Indian Coast Guard Yantrik exam pattern for Stage 1 is given below.

Post-Wise Details Regarding Different Sections & Passing Marks

To qualify the Stage I exam, candidates need to secure the required qualifying marks fixed by the examination authority. We have provided below the details regarding the different sections as well as the passing marks.

Tie-Breaking Policy in Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Recruitment Stage I

In case two or more candidates have the same marks in Stage I, then the tie will be resolved in the following ways:

  • Candidate scoring more marks in section-I (applicable only for Navik (GD) and Yantrik and not for Navik (DB))
  • Candidate scoring more aggregate percentage in qualifying exam (diploma for Yantrik) as per the post applied. The aggregate percentage is calculated upto three decimal places without rounding off
  • Candidate older in age will be higher in merit

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Exam Pattern 2022 Stage II

Based on the performance in Stage I, candidates are called for Stage II. This stage comprises Physical Fitness Test and is held for one to two days. Stage II is qualifying in nature that is either pass or fail. The Physical Fitness test consists of 1.6 km run that needs to be completed in seven minutes, 20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 push-up. Document verification is conducted in this stage also and the date of issue of all documents has to be the closing date of application or any date prior to closing date of application. Initial medical exam is also conducted in stage II. Medical officer may put the candidates as permanently unfit or temporarily. Candidates can appeal on the finding of the initial medical examination. The appeal medical to be completed within 21 days if permanently unfit or within 42 days if temporarily unfit after completion of initial medicals. No further review/appeal is permissible if declared unfit/fail in appeal medicals. No other medical fitness certificate other than that of the specialist opinion in a military hospital is admissible during appeal medical. The validity of initial medical is only upto six months. The candidate has to undergo another initial medical examination if the recruitment process is delayed due to any unforeseen event like COVID pandemic or any other circumstances.

Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Exam Pattern 2022 for Stage III

Based on the performance in Stage-I and Stage-II, an all India merit list is prepared for stage-III (final medicals at INS Chilka) as per the vacancies available and ratio decided by ICG. The duration of Stage-III is one to two days.

Document Verification

Document verification is again conducted in this stage and candidates can fail in document vérification in stage-III even if they pass during document vérification stage-II. In case of any mismatch of information provided in the application form, document uploaded (at online application stage-I and II) and original documents produced for physical verification at Stage-III than the candidature is cancelled.

Final Medical Exam

Final Medical Examination {Review Medicals as part of Final Medical (pass/fail)} of all selected candidates is done at INS Candidates, who are not found medically fit in the final medical examination at INS Chilka, are not enrolled for training. An appeal is permitted for medically unfit candidates after the final enrolment medical examination at INS Chilka and is given an opportunity to appeal against the findings if they so desire at a Military Hospital as decided by the Coast Guard within a maximum period of 21 days or as decided by INS Chilka. The candidate travel to the selected Military Hospital and back on their own expense for Appeal Medical Examination.

Submission of Original Document, Police Verification and Other Associated Forms

All the candidates are to submit original documents, police verification forms and other associated forms along with the e-admit card of Stage-III. Candidates should be in possession of police verification from either place of domicile or place of present residence. Candidates without the verified police verification reports or reports or reports with adverse comments will not be eligible for enrollment.

Indian Coast Guard Exam Pattern 2023 for Stage IV

The candidates who clear stage III and stand in merit as per the vacancies available is provisionally shortlisted for training at INS Chilka. Candidates are to submit all the original documents and verification of all original documents through boards/universities/state government is carried out by Indian Coast Guard. Candidates are terminated from service if the documents are reported as not genuine by respective boards/universities/state.
