MH SET syllabus 2024 is prescribed by the Savitribai Phule Pune University for the exam conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professorship in Maharashtra and Goa states. The MH SET syllabus makes candidates familiar with the subjects and topics from which questions are asked in the exam. The syllabus carries topics from Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers comprise objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and are conducted on the same day in different sessions without break.

The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2024 exam will be held on the basis of the latest UGC NET syllabus, except for the Life Science, Physical Science, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science, Earth, Atmospheric and Ocean & Planetary Science subjects. The syllabus of these subjects will remain the same as before. In these subjects, the Paper 2 and 3 syllabus will together form the Paper 2 syllabus. The difficulty level of the MH SET exam may vary from subject to subject and from one exam cycle to another. However, in general, the MH SET exam is considered to be a moderately difficult exam that tests the candidates' knowledge, comprehension, analytical and reasoning abilities, and research aptitude. The exam consists of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2. MH SET Syllabus 2024 for Paper 1

MH SET Paper 1 is common for all the candidates and is general in nature. It comprises 50 MCQs of 2 marks each from Teaching and Research Aptitude. All these 50 questions are compulsory. The paper assesses candidates’ reasoning ability, comprehension skills, divergent thinking and general awareness. There are ten units in Paper 1 and 5 MCQs are asked from each unit.   • Get aware of all the latest notifications related to the exam to know about the exam activities.
  • Analyze the complete MH SET Syllabus and make a preparation strategy. Start the preparation with Paper-1 syllabus because it is simpler than the Paper 2. You must finish it as soon as you can.

Q:   Are MH SET mock tests tougher than MH SET exam?

The MH SET mock tests are moderately difficult which is best suitable for the preparation of the MH SET exam as the difficulty level of the MH SET exam is moderately difficult in nature. The mock test with the same level of difficulty can help the candidates securing good marks and understand the types of question asked in the exam. However, it is advised to the candidates that they should solve tougher mock tests to be prepared for the changes because there are no certain pattern of questions that are repeated in the MH SET exam. Q:   I have not cleared the MH SET exam. Can I appear for the exam again?

A:

Yes you can definitely appear for the MH SET exam again If you did not clear it in the first attempt. The MH SET exam is conducted twice a year by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for the selection of Assistant Professor in various Maharashtra, Gujrat and Goa Universities and Colleges. 

There is no limit on the number o attempts that you can makefor the MH SET exam. However, you have to fulfill the eligibility criteria for the exam, which include having master's  degree with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for reserved categories) or equivalent from the UGC recognised University.

MH SET Syllabus 2024 for Paper 2

The MH SET Paper 2 is conducted in 32 different subjects. Candidates need to choose the subject of their Post Graduation (PG) only. The paper comprises 100 MCQs of 2 marks each. All these 100 questions are compulsory except for Mathematical Science, in which candidates need to attempt all questions either from Sections 1 and 2 or Sections 1 & 3. Q:   Are NCERT books sufficient for the preparation of MH SET exam?

A:

NCERT books can be beneficial for the aspirants in the initial days of preparation, especially for paper 1. However, it will not cover all the topics in detail. Sometimes MH SET exam covers a wide range from all topics and may the NCERT book will not cover the topics in depth. Therefore, the candidates are advised to go through the detailed books and other study materials. Additionally solving previous years' question papers are taking mock tests can also be helpful in preparing for the MH SET exam.

The MH SET exam is taken for candidates who are interested in Ph.D research and teaching as Assistant professor in colleges and universities in India. However, there are other career opportunities other than being Assistant Professor or a Research Scholar. The candidates who qualified for the MH SET exam can apply for the PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) such as Indian Oil Corporation limited (IOCL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), etc. 

The candidates who do not want to join any PSU can take up other options like online tutors, open their own coaching centres, guest faculty, consultants, Lab Trainers, IP leads, Authors, Editors, Transmission Executives, Program Executive, etc.

  • Master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks.
  • Candidates who have appeared for the final examination of their Master's degree and are awaiting results can also apply.

The exact exam date for MH SET 2025 has not been officially announced yet. However, if we make an estimate based on previous year trends, it is expected to be held sometime in April or May 2025.
