A:
You cannot become a probationary officer (PO) through promotions. However, after three or six years of service as an SBI Clerk you can become an officer. From the clerk position, you have two options for becoming an officer at SBI: 1. You are eligible to join the SBI as a trainee officer (TO) following three years of service. You need to have both JAIIB and CAIIB certifications. After that, you'll need to pass an internal exam that consists of a written test, an interview, and a group discussion. 2. You can advance to the JMGS Scale 1 officer position in the SBI after serving as a clerk for six years. You must also pass an internal exam for this position, but it is much simpler than the TO exam.

Q:   What are the job responsibilities of SBI Clerk?

Candidates appointed to the post of SBI Clerk are required to perform the following job responsibilities:

  • Candidates are responsible for the day-to-day bank functions such as opening accounts, amount transfers, issuance of demand drafts (DD), cheque clearance, cheque book requests, receiving inward emails
  • Candidates need to handle cash transactions of the concerned branch, clearing, and transfer of cheques

Q:   What is the training duration for an SBI clerk?

A:
The total training duration of an SBI Clerk is six months. The probationary period for SBI clerks begins with induction training at the State Bank Institute of Learning and Development. This period lasts for one to two weeks at the state branch where they are posted. Later, trainees are assigned to their respective branches, where they undergo practical training for the banking process. This period lasts around five months, after which they work as junior associates in their respective branches. If associates are unable to successfully complete their training, their training period will be extended.

SBI Clerk Selection Process

SBI Clerk selection process comprises prelims and mains exams. Candidates qualifying the prelims exam are called for the mains exam. The marks obtained in the prelims exam are not counted for the final merit list. Only the marks secured in the mains exam are counted for final SBI Clerk selection. Candidates qualifying the mains exam are called for the local language test.

Q:   Can an SBI Clerk become a manager?

A:
Yes, an SBI Clerk can become a manager. The State Bank of India offers many opportunities for junior associates (clerk) to advance in a banking career. Prior to being qualified for a promotion based on merit, you must finish a required service period as a junior associate. You can become a manager in the following ways: 1. Become a trainee officer after qualifying for an internal examination. This option is available after three years and is a reasonably challenging route. After getting upgraded to the TO post, you can advance to the post of manager at a later stage. 2. Become a Junior Manager Grade Officer Scale-I by passing an internal exam after six years of service. You can rise to the post of assistant general manager or higher. 3. After six years of service, you can apply for the OJM internal exam to get promoted to officer rank under the fast track promotion channel. Under the normal promotion channel, you need to have completed 12 years of service to be considered for officer promotion.

SBI Clerk get more opportunities to become a Probationary Officer compared to other banks. The main reason is the fast-track promotion process in SBI. Candidates who are selected for the Clerk position in SBI will be on probation for at least six months. However, it may be extended based on the performance of a candidate.
SBI conducts an internal exam every two years for those who are aspiring for career growth. A Clerk can take the internal exam only after the three years of service in the bank. Candidates who clears the internal exam become a Trainee Officer (TO) for a period of two years. After the completion of two years of the probation period, they are recruited as Middle Management Grade Scale-II (MMGS-II) Cadre. Candidates who completes six years of service or 12 years of service as a Clerk are also promoted to the next position, a Junior Manager Grade Scale (JMGS-I) Officer. Q:   What is SBI Clerk Eligibility?

A:

SBI Clerk criteria:- A candidate who is aspiring to apply for the SBI Clerk exam must be an Indian citizen. Candidates must fulfill the following educational requirements to apply for the SBI Clerk Prelims examination. 1.Prospective candidates must have a Graduation degree in any stream from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification which is recognized by the Central Government. They must make sure the passing certificate shows the date the relevant degree was earned. 2.Candidates who have an Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing of the IDD is as per the guidelines given in the notification. 3.Those who are in the final year/ semester of their graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if provisionally selected, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination  4.As per the SBI Clerk qualification criteria, the candidates need to mandatorily indicate the percentage theyve obtained in the Graduation degree and calculate it to the nearest two decimals in the online application form. 5.For Matriculate Ex-servicemen, prospective applicants should have obtained the Indian Army Special Certificate of Education or corresponding certificate in the Navy or Air Force, after completing at least 15 years of service in the Armed Forces of the Union. Age limit:- Not below 20 years and not above 28 years i.e. candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.08.1994 and not later than 01.08.2002 (both days inclusive). The details regarding the age limit and the relaxation in upper age are clearly given in the official notification. Candidates must go through the notification in detail and check the eligibility criteria. Relaxation is given to the various categories for the SBI Clerk exam. SBI Clerk cut off will be released online after the declaration of the result. To check the cut off marks, candidates need to enter the required credentials. There are no sectional cut off in the exam. Candidates need to secure the overall cut off marks inorder to qualify the exam.

Candidates who are working in SBI in the Clerical cadre are not eligible to apply under this project. Candidates who were earlier employed in State Bank of India and resigned from the Bank while in clerical cadre will also be not eligible to apply for the post. Only online applications are accepted
