Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts SSC Stenographer exam for recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade C (Group B Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade D (Group C Non-Gazetted) in various ministries/departments/organisations in the Government of India. SSC Stenographer salary is revised as per seventh pay commission. Currently, the basic SSC Stenographer salary is INR 14,500 for Grade C and INR 7,600 for Grade D. SSC Stenographer Salary

The commission decides SSC Stenographer salary for Grade C and D posts. The salary varies as per the grades. SSC Stenographer Salary for Grade C is higher than Grade D. Apart from the basic salary, candidates are also entitled to House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), and Travelling Allowance (TA). SSC Stenographer Job Profile & Responsibility

SSC Stenographer is recruited by SSC in various offices/departments/ministries under the Government of India. SSC Stenographer job profile varies as per the grades and the place where candidates are posted. Candidates recruited under SSC Stenographer Grade C are posted in Delhi only. There are two groups under SSC Stenographer Grade D, candidates recruited under Group X Stenographers are posted in ministries/departments of Central Government located mostly in Delhi and those recruited under Group Y Stenographers are posted in offices/departments of Central Government including attached/subordinate offices located in States and Union Territories of India. The duties and responsibilities of SSC Stenographer are given below:

  • Speech writing: Stenographers take shorthand notes of public speeches given by the various ministries and transcribe those on the computer. These notes are then made public through mass media.
  • Press briefings: Stenographers attend the press conferences, make notes of the details and speech. Then they help in making press releases of the same.
  • Assisting the minister or officer: Stenographers assist the minister or officer in preparing the speech.
  • Helping in public relation: Make a note of the government's take on various issues that need to be communicated among the masses.
