The candidates need to write three essays (in about 700 words) in three hours. There will be three sections in the UPPSC Essay question paper and the candidates need to choose one topic from each section. The section-wise syllabus is:

UPPCS Main General Studies Paper 1 Syllabus
General Studies Paper I is the most static paper of the UPPSC PCS main exam. This paper has the least current orientation and the candidates should prepare it keeping in mind that its topics will be useful in other exams as well. The list of topics is as follows:

No, only NCERT books are not sufficient for the UPPSC exam preparation. The NCERT books can provide an introduction to the topic but they do not dive into details because they are written as per the syllabus of Class IX to XII. However, in the UPPSC exam, the topics need to be covered in their entirety.
The candidates should know all the subtopics of that topic. The candidates should complete the NCERT books within a week of starting them.

No, the UPPSC PCS main exam pattern was not changed but the Commission removed the Optional subject from the main exam and introduced the General Studies Paper 5 and 6. These papers will ask the Uttar Pradesh specific topics and questions related to the local folklore of the state.
