Q: Â Is the NIMCET 2025 exam pattern and syllabus changed?

What is NIMCET?
NIMCET or National Institute of Technology Master of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test is an exam conducted for admissions to MCA programmes. This entrance exam is conducted every year to offer admission into the Masters in Computer Application (MCA) Programme in participating NITs. Candidates have to clear the NIMCET MCA exam with a good rank, and based on their ranks they will be allotted seats at various campuses of NITs. Around 25,000 students register for NIMCET each year and approximately 805 seats are offered in 9 NITs across India. Many universities and institutes other than NITs consider NIMCET scores for admissions to the MCA programmes offered by them.

The NIMCET is a Common Entrance National Level Test that is conducted by any of the NITs for admission into their MCA programme. Q: Â What is the difficulty level of NIMCET?
The difficulty level of NIMCET is normal. Questions from computer awareness sections is of BCA/BSc IT level while English, logical reasoning and Mathematics questions are of intermediate level. However, the questions asked in NIMCETs are tricky and required in-depth understanding of the subjects. Students need to have conceptual understanding of each topics to get a good score in the exam. Students who studies NCERT and have good understanding of topics can get a decent score in NIMCET.
Q: Â Which one is a better mode of NIMCET application, online or offline?
The application form for NIMCET will be available online. Candidates will be able to fill out the NIMCET application form on the official website. To apply for it, candidates need to visit the online application portal and start the application process. It also requires aspirants to fill and submit some basic details.
Q: Â Is there any negative marking for wrong answers in NIMCET?
As per the information brochure of NIMCET, each correctly answered question will give full marks, while each incorrectly answered question will result in deduction. For Mathematics, 12 marks will be awarded for the correct answer, and 3 marks will be deducted for the wrong answer. For Computer Awareness, Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning, 6 marks will be awarded for the correct answer, and 1.5 marks will be deducted for the wrong answer. For General English, 4 marks are awarded for the correct answer, and 1 mark is deducted for the incorrect answer. Candidates are advised against attempting questions if they are unsure of the correct answer. However, no deduction will be made if a question is left unanswered. Selecting multiple answers to a question will result in negative marking.
NIMCET 2025 Application Form
NIMCET 2025 application form will be released online. Candidates will have to fill out and submit the NIMCET application form 2025 before the final date, which will be announced soon. No other mode of application will be accepted. While filling out the NIMCET application form, the candidates will have to fill out their personal, academic and contact details. All of the provided details have to be valid. No, candidates who will be opting for NIMCET need to pay the application fee in online mode only via credit or debit card or Netbanking. The NIMCET application fee for OPEN/OPEN-EWS/OBC will be INR 2500, and for SC, ST, PwD, it will be INR 1250. The NIT Jamshedpur will release the NIMCET application form in an online mode. Q: Â What is NIMCET 2025 Cutoff?
The NIMCET cutoff 2024 will be released after the completion of the counselling process. Candidates will be able to check the previous-year cutoffs for various institutes. Q: Â What is the qualifying mark in NIMCET?
Candidates securing zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or in Total Marks in NIMCET test will be disqualified. Based on the marks obtained by a qualified candidate in NIMCET test, a rank will be allotted by adopting the following criteria.
- The marks obtained in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, English, will be summed up. Thus, maximum weighted marks will be 1000.
- Ranking will be based on total weighted marks obtained by a candidate.

NIMCET exam consists of questions from four (4) subjects which are Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness and General English. The detailed syllabus can be checked below.
Mathematics
Set Theory: Concept of sets – Union, Intersection, Cardinality, Elementary counting; permutations and combinations.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.
Algebra: Fundamental operations in algebra, expansions, factorization, simultaneous linear /quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.
Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equation of a line, and intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola.
Calculus: Limit of functions, continuous function, differentiation of function, tangents and normals, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of functions by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction, definite integrals, applications of definite integrals to areas.
Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.

Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), structure of instructions in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, and back-up devices.
Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, binary arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams
General English
Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language.
There will be questions on the following topics: Comprehension, vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), word power, synonyms and antonyms, meaning of words and phrases, technical writing.
Q: Â How many times NIMCET is conducted in a year?
NIMCET exam is conducted once a year. There are a total of 11 NITs (National Institute of Technology) which take admission in MCA through NIMCET. The exam is conducted by one of the participating NITs every year on rotational basis.
Q: Â When was the NIMCET 2025 result released?
The official NIMCET 2025 result date has not been announced yet. Candidates will be able to access the NIMCET result a few days after the examination is conducted. To access the result, the candidates will have to log in using the required credentials. The result can be downloaded in the form of NIMCET 2025 score card. No other mode will be used to announce the result.
Q: Â What is the exam pattern of NIMCET?
NIMCET test will be conducted with single paper containing 120 multiple choice questions covering the following subjects.
- Mathematics
- Computer Awareness
- English Language
- Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning
The total duration of the exam will be two hours and total marks of the exam is 1000. Multiple Choice Questions will be written in English Language only and will not be translated into any other language.
Q: Â How can I check NIMCET result?
The NIMCET result will be released online at the official website at nimce.admissions.nic.in. To check result, candidates will have to login on the website using their user ID and password. The scorecard will have details about marks scored by the candidates, cutoff score and All India Rank of candidates. On the basis of NIMCET result, candidates can participate in the NIMCET counselling for admission to MCA courses at NITs, and other institutes accepting NIMCET score.
