AILET 2019 Exam Analysis by Experts
By Pranav Mishra
AILET 2019 was a lengthy and moderately difficult paper. Check out the complete section-wise AILET exam analysis along with expected cutoff below.
AILET 2019 or the All India Law Entrance Test was conducted in multiple cities throughout India by NLU Delhi as the entrance examination for the said college on May 5, 2019. This paper has negative marking of 0.25 in it which was introduced last year. This paper has 150 questions which are divided into 5 sections – English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Mathematics.
This year’s AILET paper held no surprises and was quite similar to last year’s, especially when talking about its lengthiness and difficulty since the paper was quite lengthy and moderately difficult.
AILET 2019: English
This section comprises of 35 marks. This year’s paper had 8 inferential-based questions based on a Reading Comprehension, 3 vocabulary questions, 12 grammar questions including 10 questions of improving the sentence and 2 questions relating to indentifying the part of speech, 6 questions of a single cloze test set, and 6 questions related to figures of speech.
This section did not hold any surprises since the only potential surprise could have been the questions regarding figures of speech. However, they had already been introduced last year and did not surprise anyone who had already gone through last year’s paper. Last year’s paper did not contain a passage; however, no one could have ruled that out as a possible set of questions, so no surprises there either. This section was a bit lengthy and could have taken some extra time to solve. Keeping all this in mind, 18 would be a decent score in this section.

AILET 2019: General Knowledge
This section comprises of 35 marks. This paper only had 2 questions based on static GK—Geography in particular; the rest of the questions were from the current side with most questions from international affairs, person-based appointments, and science and technology. There were also some statement-based questions.
This section’s difficulty level was moderate and 20 would be considered a decent score in this.
AILET 2019: Legal Aptitude
This section comprises of 35 marks. This year’s paper had 13 questions of Legal Reasoning while the rest were from Legal GK. Most of the reasoning-based questions were quite lengthy with multiple principles. However, most of the principles were from conventional topics and are very common in this section. The Legal GK portion of this section contained questions from Economics, Polity, and legal current affairs mostly from the last quarter i.e. January to March.
The reasoning portion of this section was quite lengthy and would have taken quite a bit of time to solve properly. However, the actual surprise was the Legal GK questions in this paper which were abundant in number and some required a bit of detailed knowledge. This would play the deciding role in the final cut-off as this contained questions which required immense study and dedication on the student’s part during the preparation. 18 would be considered a good score in this section.
AILET 2019: Logical Reasoning
This section also comprises of 35 marks. In this year’s paper, there was a 7-question set and 10 traditional questions of directions, blood relations, clocks, seating arrangement, and puzzles in analytical reasoning, 2 questions of syllogism, and 16 questions on critical reasoning including 10 paragraph-based questions and 3 questions each on course of action and cause and effect.
Overall, it was a tricky section with an increased focus on critical reasoning and the students not comfortable with this part would have faced some problems with it as this would affect the final score a lot. 18 would be a good score in this section.
AILET 2019: Mathematics
This section comprises of 10 marks. This year, this section had 3 questions of time-distance-speed and 2 questions of mensuration with some other questions of individual topics.
This section was extremely lengthy as well as difficult; attempting all questions would have bordered on foolhardy since it would have wasted a lot of time as each question required quite a bit of reading and would taken more than the time the students had. Only 4 or 5 questions could have been possibly attempted properly while keeping the rest of the paper in mind.
AILET 2019: Final Verdict
The paper was rather lengthy and difficult which would affect the entire cut-off. No student is expected to have performed well in each section and it would have been a rather formidable challenge to attempt every possible question. Legal GK and critical reasoning would play the most crucial role in deciding a student’s fate with the former being a bit more important than the latter.
The final cut-off would probably be 72+ keeping all these factors in mind.

It's difficult to say if you can get into an NLU with an AIR of 15466 in CLAT 2024 As to get into one of the top Nlus, general category candidates should aim for a score of 90 or more in CLAT 2024. For SC/ST categories, 60–70 points is considered a decent score.

Some law colleges in India that offer admission without an entrance test include:
SRM University, School of Law
Geetham University
Banasthali University
ICFAI School of Law
University of KL
But most of the students prefer to get admission through national entrance exams like CLAT, AILET and LSAT India.

With a CLAT rank of 30,000, admission to National Law Universities (NLUs) is highly unlikely for their main campuses, as most of them have cutoffs well below this rank. However, you may still have chances in some newer or less competitive NLUs, especially in lower-category programs. It's important t

The National Law University (NLU) admission prospects are slim in view of a CLAT rank of 7616 and an EWS rank of 640. Most of the NLU cut-off ranks tend to be exceptionally lower as compared to general category and EWS candidates, even in some of the most sought-after courses like BA LLB.

The cutoff for the Ph.D. in Law (Part-Time) is not defined as it was not communicated in the search results above. However, the admission procedure involves a two-stage selection consisting of a written entrance test along with assessment of research proposals plus interview. A minimum of 50% marks

As per the NLU Delhi BA LLB (Hons) AILET 2024 cutoff, the AILET score for general category in 2024 stood at 71. The score for the same category and course stood at 106 in 2023 and 86 in 2022. Based on this trend, it can be said that getting a score between 80 and 90 would be good enough.
