A right mix of strategy not only boosts your preparation, but also increases the chance of your success. Before delving into any strategy, a candidate should develop a competitive attitude, as right attitude increases the chance of success by multiple folds. - Abhishek Chaturvedi, Director, CLAT Prep Education

Section-Wise CLAT Preparation Tips

At the outset, a student should be well acquainted with the CLAT exam pattern. Not all the sections carry equal weightage. Legal Aptitude and GK together constitute 50 per cent of the paper, while the next 40 per cent is ruled by English and Logical reasoning jointly, and Mathematics holds a meager share of 10 per cent.

Most students falter in their preparation not because of a lack of effort, but because of disproportionate efforts. Spending the majority of time practicing Mathematics can at most guarantee 20 marks. Instead of this, a greater emphasis on Legal Aptitude and GK can enhance your overall score dramatically. At the same time, students who either had Mathematics as a subject in their senior secondary or are otherwise adept in this subject, should not miss out on this section, as this can be a bonus for them and give them the edge over other candidates.

Q:   Which are the best books for CLAT 2026?

A:

Among all the books of CLAT 2026 in the world, first, go for the NCERT books. You must complete all the NCERT books first before moving to other reference books available in the market. After completing the NCERT books, you can go for the following books to boost up your practice and concepts: Universal’s LLB Entrance Guide, Lexis Nexis, Objective Arithmetic, GK Today, India Year Book and Analytical, Logical Reasoning by RS Aggarwal,  Word Power Made Easy,  Verbal Reasoning by RS Aggarwal,  Manorama Year Book and Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey.

Q:   Which books are there for CLAT exam?

A:

For general knowledge, one can refer to the Lucent GK. The Current Affairs for CLAT 2026 can be prepared by reading daily newspapers and monthly magazines. The CLAT legal aptitude will have questions on topics such as Constitutional law, Law of Torts, Personal laws, Law of Contract, Jurisprudence, legal Current Affairs etc. There are various study materials available in online mode, including online coaching. The e-paper, articles, journals, and YouTube videos on CLAT preparation are important resources. Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey Bare Acts of Indian Constitution LexisNexis Butterworths Legal Awareness and Legal Aptitude by Andhra Pradesh Bhardwaj Universals CLAT Guide

Q:   Which are the best books for English to crack CLAT 2026?

A:

English sections of CLAT will test the reading, comprehension and basic grammar skills of the aspirants. Aspirants must focus on improving their reading skills while preparing for CLAT English section. Candidates should concentrate on grammar and vocabulary too. Candidates can check CLAT 2026 best books for English Language including comprehension here: English is Easy by Chetananand Singh,  Barron’s Pocket Guide to Vocabulary,  Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis,  Objective General English by RS Aggarwal, High School English Grammar and Composition by Wren & Martin.

As far as Legal Reasoning is concerned, look out for small details in the questions, this will be the differentiating point between a good and an average candidate since these small details can cause variations in the answers. Moreover, even the options will have minute differences between them, which will only be clear on closer introspection (this does not mean you should read too slowly and take too long to answer a question). Also, do not focus on the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ part of an option of a legal reasoning question, but rather focus on the reasoning given, an option will only be correct if the reasoning is sound, regardless of whether it is getting the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ part correct or not.

CLAT Previous Year Papers

CLAT Syllabus can’t be confined to a few selected topics only, because of its very basic nature of being an aptitude test. However, CLAT previous year papers can offer you a synopsis of frequently asked topics. This in turn will help you to identify your weak and strong areas. With persistent and dedicated efforts, weak areas too can be revitalised. No student can secure equal good in all the sections. Scoring above average in the forte will compensate for low scores in other sections. But this will command unwavering practice of your strong area until the last moment.

CLAT Mock Tests

Gaining knowledge is a continuous process. The application of the knowledge gained makes this process more fulfilling. Mock is one such tool that offers the platform to do a reality check. It’s high time you enroll for a good CLAT mock test series. Mock tests not only help in evaluating your performance but also aid in devising a customized strategy in synchronisation with your knowledge and pace, which can be replicated when giving actual CLAT.  A piece of advice – Don’t dilly-dally on questions that demand more than a reasonable time. You should be wise enough to judge the questions to be left out, as all the questions are not meant to be solved in two hours' time.

Q:   Which are the CLAT best books for Legal aptitude?

A:

Candidates must note that it is most important sections in CLAT 2026 as it carries 25% weightage. The legal aptitude sections carries questions that are mostly concepts bases on topics such as Law of Tort, Law of Contract, Constitutional law, Indian Constitution, Polity, preposition and facts etc. Candidates can follow the study material and reference given here to prepare for CLAT legal aptitude section: Bare Acts of Indian Constitution, LexisNexis Butterworths, Legal Awareness and Legal Aptitude by Andhra Pradesh Bhardwaj, Universal’s CLAT Guide.

Q:   Are NCERT books sufficient for CLAT preparation?

A:

NCERT books can be a good starting point for CLAT preparation, particularly for subjects like English and Mathematics, as they cover basic concepts and fundamentals. NCERT books for Classes 8 to 10 are helpful for brushing up on elementary mathematics and grammar. For General Knowledge, NCERT books on history, polity, and economics for Classes 6 to 10 can provide foundational knowledge.

However, NCERT books alone are not sufficient for CLAT preparation. The exam requires a deep understanding of legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and advanced comprehension skills, which are better addressed through specialised CLAT preparation books, practice papers, and mock tests. Combining NCERTs with targeted study material is essential for a comprehensive preparation strategy.

Q:   How useful are CLAT books?

A:

CLAT books are incredibly useful for preparing for the Common Law Admission Test. They provide a structured approach to understanding the syllabus, covering key topics like Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, English, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. These books often include detailed explanations of concepts, solved examples, and practice questions that mirror the CLAT exam pattern. Many also offer previous years' papers and mock tests, helping students familiarize themselves with the question format and improve time management skills. Reliable CLAT books, when used alongside other resources like sample papers and coaching material, can significantly boost preparation and confidence for the exam.

Q:   How to choose the best books for CLAT Exam 2026?

A:

To choose the best books for CLAT 2026, look for comprehensive, well-structured study material that covers the entire syllabus. Opt for books that focus on Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, English, Current Affairs, and Quantitative Techniques. Choose books with clear explanations and ample practice questions, such as Arihant's CLAT Guide for reasoning and legal sections, RS Aggarwal for logical reasoning, and Word Power Made Easy for English vocabulary. For Current Affairs, refer to monthly compilations and daily newspapers like The Hindu. Additionally, select books that provide mock tests and papers from previous years for better exam preparation.

Q:   Which are the best preparation books for CLAT 2026?

  • Restrict indulging in the habit of doing guesswork as it will do you more harm than good in terms of 0.25 negative marking for every wrong answer.
  • Giving incessant mocks, without an in-depth analysis will be like flogging a dead horse.
  • Comprehensive analysis is like putting a method to the madness. It helps in identifying topics that are more prone to mistakes, thus allowing you to rectify those mistakes.
  • Moreover, a candidate should try different strategies in solving different mocks, and from this hit-and-trial method, you can appropriately decide as to the task at hand doesn’t end here.
  • Mistakes identified in past mocks should not be repeated in the next mocks. Believe me; this strategy alone can boost your marks by a significant amount.

CLAT 2025 Revision Strategy

The next step requires continuous revision. Formulas and terms once learned would fade away from memory, if not revised on regular basis, and will drain down your toil. Revision should be an inseparable component of the preparation agenda because a thing revised stands as good as a new thing learned. The last week before CLAT would be crucial from this perspective. This strategy is especially important from the perspective of the General Knowledge section since the options will be confusing and will mostly be related to each other.

With a myriad of study sources available, both online and offline, students should be wary of not getting swayed away from their primary objective. At this juncture, when in just a few days CLAT will be round the corner, referring to multiple sources will only add to the anxiety.

  • Make the best use of the limited time by restricting to only one or two reliable and quality sources.
  • Specifically, in GK preparation, students refer to varied sources of information in pursuit of the new and latest information, but the unguided search can bewilder them more than adding to the archive of their information.
  • Last-minute attacks of collywobbles are very natural.
  • Keeping poise and following a well-thought strategy will unequivocally ace your preparation.
  • Don’t get disheartened if you have not scored decent until now.

Everything takes its own course of time to flourish and with a judicious mix of writing mocks, backed by proper analysis and timely revision, your scores will surely augment.
