HP-NLET 2017 was conducted by Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla across 19 test centres in the country today, May 21, 2017. The law entrance exam was of two hours duration conducted from 10 AM to 12 PM.
Himachal Pradesh National Law Entrance Test (HP-NLET) for UG admissions consists of 150 questions from subjects such as General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehensive, and Legal Awareness & Reasoning. Marking scheme of the exam is such that one mark is awarded for every correct answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.

It may be noted that HP-NLET exam was conducted by HPNLU for the first time this year. Last year, HPNLU admissions in different law courses were done on the basis of CLAT scores.
Shiksha spoke to students of different cities after HP-NLET 2017 exam was over today to know how their exam went. A majority of students who took the law entrance exam for UG course admissions shared that the test was easy and they could finish their paper in time.

HP-NLET 2017: Section-Wise Difficulty Level
Talking about HP-NLET exam, Hemant Srivastava from St. Francis School, Lucknow, said, “The level of the exam was very easy.” He further went on to reveal that as per him the cut-offs for HP-NLET exam are expected to go high. Regarding the section-wise difficulty level of the exam, Hemant shared, “Questions from GK were the easiest followed by Reasoning and Mathematics. Questions from English were little difficult as compared to all other sections.”
Yash Tiwari who had applied for BA/ BBA LLB course also shared that his exam went good and questions from all sections were easy. Even Saksham Sharma, an HP-NLET aspirant from Dehradun, said, “Overall, my exam went really good. Questions from English section were of moderate difficulty level. Rest all sections were easy. I was able to complete my paper much before time.”
According to Nilesh Singh from Axis Academy School, Alwar, “HP-NLET 2017 contained very basic questions and the difficulty level of the exam was quite easy.” He held similar views like Hemant when he said “Considering the difficulty level of the exam, cut-offs for HP-NLET are expected to go really high.”
Disha Johri from Wisdom Public School, Aligarh said, “The exam was nice and easy.” Talking about the section-wise difficulty level of the exam she said, “For me Mathematics section was the easiest. Questions from other sections like GK and Legal Knowledge & Reasoning were also easy. I found only English Comprehensive section a bit difficult as it had some good vocabulary questions.”
Anubhav, a BA LLB course aspirant also shared, “All sections in the exam were of moderate difficulty level. Overall, my exam went good.”
HP-NLET 2017: Exam Pattern
Most of the HP-NLET aspirants shared that the test pattern was slightly different as compared to what was shared by HPNLU. Talking about the same, Saksham said, “The paper contained some questions from Logical Reasoning. As per the exam pattern shared by HPNLU on its official website, questions had to be only from four sections – GK, Legal Awareness & Reasoning, Mathematics, and English.”
As per Hemant, “Although the exam contained some Logical Reasoning questions, the difficulty level was not high. I could easily attempt all questions asked in the exam.” Regarding the marking scheme of HP-NLET exam, Hemant revealed that there was a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
According to Manish Bhardwaj, a student of Gyan Vihar School, Jaipur, “The exam pattern was similar to what was shared by HPNLU. The only difference was that the exam contained some questions from Logical Reasoning.” However, “most of the questions asked in all sections of the exam were quite easy”, added Manish.
HP-NLET vs CLAT: Difficulty Level

According to Nilesh, “HP-NLET was the easiest as compared to all previous law entrance exams that I gave like CLAT and AILET. Difficulty level of questions asked in HP-NLET was lower as compared to all other exams.”
Anubhav also felt the same and said, “CLAT exam was not only tougher but lengthier as compared to HP-NLET.”
