CLAT was conducted on May 13 and stories related to its apathy towards the students have been the staple diet of the young NLU aspirants since then. Most of the aspirants want CLAT 2018 to be conducted again.Students appeared for HPNLET 2018 in this atmosphere of uncertainty.
Let me discuss a few points related to HPNLET 2017 before I come to HPNLET 2018.
In 2017 HPNLET did not have many errors, but there were at least a dozen incorrect responses marked in the answer key which they released. They rectified most of the answers subsequently, but even the "revised" answer key had 4 errors. As per HPNLU people, the President of India is elected by all the members of the parliament and state assemblies! My fundamental question is how can Himanchal Pradesh NLU have such people in their panel who do not know the correct answers to the questions they create themselves.

As if CLAT 2018 jolt was not enough, HPNLET 2018 only exacerbated the situation. The test had not less than 25 typos as a consequence of which a few of the questions were incomprehensible. In fact, the instructions given on the cover page of the test were incorrect and the students got extremely worried on seeing them!
HP-NLET 2018: About the Exam
The test had, like HPNLET 2017, 150 questions to be done in 2 hours. There were 4 options for each of the questions. There was a reward of 1 mark for a correct answer and a penalty of 0.25 marks for an incorrect answer.
It was a balanced test and these were the areas tested:
1. Quantitative Aptitude: 13 questions (all Arithmetic)
2. Logical Reasoning: 18 questions (Relationship, Direction, arrangement, coding, etc.)
3. Legal maxims: 17 questions
4. Legal Reasoning: 7 questions
5. Static General Knowledge: 37 questions (Science, History, Geography, Polity, Economy)
6. Current Affairs: 27 questions
7. English: 31 questions (Reading Comprehension, Idioms and Vocabulary)
Most of the areas were absolutely doable: the only exception was Static General Knowledge.
HPNLET 2018 was tougher than HPNLET 2017 and hence the cutoff this year should fall to 92-95 for General category students. Rashi Sharma from Uttarakhand was the topper of HPNLET 2017 and she had scored 121.50 out of 150.
HPNLU has 60 seats for each of its undergraduate programs: BA LLB and BBA LLB. 25% reservation is there for the domiciles of Himachal Pradesh.
HPNLU will come out with the results of HPNLET 2018 on June 2, 2018. We wish the readers all the luck!!!
