Shubham Jain, BA LLB (Hons) student at NLU Delhi shares Campus Life

Shubham Jain secured an impressive 116/150 in AILET 2016 and became the Rank 2 holder of the law entrance exam. On the basis of his rank in All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), Shubham got admission at NLU Delhi.

Considered to be one of the best NLUs in India, Shubham revealed that there is a lot of academic pressure at National Law University (NLU), Delhi. Law has always been his passion and Shubham also likes “reading about philosophy, history and finance. Reading is the only hobby that I’m able to pursue in college”, he shared. Read on to know more about how AILET topper finds life at one of the premier most National Law University in India.

Q. Is life at a law college exactly as you expected?

A.

Life at law school is drastically different from what I had imagined earlier. Though I had heard that academic pressure is high, witnessing it in reality was an altogether new experience. The wide range of activities one can partake in is something nobody can prepare you for.

Q. What is your daily routine like?

A.

NLU Delhi has classes from 9 am till 1:20 pm, and after a lunch break, tutorials till 3:30 pm. The time after that is generally for self-study and relaxing, or whatever one wants to do with it.

Q. What is the first thing one would notice when they would step into your college?

A.

The library building and auditorium on either side, and the academic block in the middle looming large over both.

Q. Tell us 5 really good things about your college?

A.

Some really good things about my college are as follows:

  1. Positive environment- helpful and friendly seniors and batchmates
  2. Good mess food
  3. Library
  4. Some really amazing professors
  5. High speed internet

Q. What are some popular hangout places?

A.

There’s an Amul shop on the way to the Academic block and it’s by far the most popular hangout spot for everyone.

Q. How is the college crowd like?

A.

The crowd is really nice, and the environment is healthy and positive. Seniors are generally willing to help out in whatever activity one needs help for, so that others can perform well too.

Q. How are the hostel facilities at your college?

A.

Hostels are remarkably clean and well-maintained. Sometimes one misses the comfort of AC in the initial months, but that longing goes away very soon. Also, within a few weeks from now we will be getting ACs in the hostel. There are rarely any maintenance issues as such.

Q. What is the best part of your hostel life?

A.

Vending machines for late night food.

Q. Tell us about how classes are conducted at NLU Delhi?

A.

Classes are based on the interactive model- teachers engage with the students during class and participation and presentations are encouraged.

Q. Tell us something about the industrial visits?

A.

We have not been taken for any industrial visits yet as a batch. Though people who volunteer for various research projects get to visit all sorts of places for academic and empirical research.

Q. How much attendance is compulsory?

A.

67% is compulsory to appear for exams. There are also marks for attendance.

Q. What are the recreational activities offered at your college?

A.

There is a Cinema Club in our college which generally screens a movie every Monday night. There is a basketball court, a volleyball court and two badminton courts along with a gym. There is also an auditorium with a music room.

Q. How is your college canteen and food?

A.

There’s a cafeteria, an Amul shop, and a CCD store in college. All of them sell good food at reasonable prices. A small pizza at Rs 50 and an Oreo shake at Rs 40 is much more reasonably priced than most other college canteens that I’ve visited.

Q. How would you rate your college life at present?

A.

I love my college life at NLUD. Sometimes I do miss my school life, where one would be with friends all day and be back home by afternoon. But the amount of learning that college has provided me with, both on and off academics, is tremendous.

Q. What word of advice would you give to anyone who is aiming to get into the college?

A.

It’s hopefully going to be worth it, so work hard.

With a CLAT rank of 30,000, admission to National Law Universities (NLUs) is highly unlikely for their main campuses, as most of them have cutoffs well below this rank. However, you may still have chances in some newer or less competitive NLUs, especially in lower-category programs. It's important t

The National Law University (NLU) admission prospects are slim in view of a CLAT rank of 7616 and an EWS rank of 640. Most of the NLU cut-off ranks tend to be exceptionally lower as compared to general category and EWS candidates, even in some of the most sought-after courses like BA LLB.

As per the NLU Delhi BA LLB (Hons) AILET 2024 cutoff, the AILET  score for general category in 2024 stood at 71. The score for the same category and course stood at 106 in 2023 and 86 in 2022. Based on this trend, it can be said that getting a score between 80 and 90 would be good enough.
