Get CLAT 2025 preparation tips from Vivek Subramanian as he talks about the best strategies that can be adopted for exam preparation.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) will be conducted on December 1, 2024. The Consortium of NLUs announced the CLAT 2025 Dates in CLAT Notification. However, all those candidates who have been looking forward to appearing in CLAT 2025 must start preparing now. From our experience, at this time students broadly fall into two buckets – those who have been preparing for several months for CLAT; and secondly, those who have finished their Board exams and thereafter started CLAT preparation. We have seen students from both groups succeed in equal proportions and the difference between succeeding in CLAT and not making it comes down to what you will do in the few days left before CLAT. CLAT Exam 2025 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode.

The standing assumption going into this is that you would be able to give 8 to 10 hours of dedicated time for studying every day. This is pretty much a mandatory amount of time because whichever bucket you fall into, there is a lot of CLAT syllabus to cover and you would need all the time available in a day to cover it.

At this stage, succeeding without the help of coaching is also very difficult, as an instructor can save you a lot of time by guiding your preparation in the right direction. Coaching can tell you what to study and, more importantly, what not to. Crash courses for CLAT 2025 Exam abound, and you should be able to find one in most major cities in India. You can also consider signing up for an online course, as that would have the added benefit of saving your commute time and giving you the flexibility of studying anytime as per your schedule.

Q:   Will CLAT be held twice in 2025?

A:

In 2022, CLAT exam was held twice, I. e. on June 19 as CLAT 2022, and on December 18, 2022 as CLAT 2023. However, from 2024 onwards, CLAT exam is to be conducted once in a year only, as confirmed by the exam officials in the latest notification. Earlier, CLAT exam was conducted in May or June, but from 2024 onwards the entrance exam will be conducted in December (of preceding year to the admission year) itself for concluding admissions on time. Therefore, CLAT counselling process will be completed by May of each academic year.

Q:   When will the CLAT 2025 exam be held?

A:

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) conducted the CLAT 2025 on December 1, 2024. The exam authority published the admission notification for CLAT 2025 with details of syllabus, exam pattern and events on the official website.

Q:   Are calculators allowed in CLAT Exam?

A:

Calculators are not allowed in the CLAT exam. However, students are provided the virtual calculator during the exam which can be used to solving lengthy calculations. The virtual calculator is made available on the computer screen during the test and candidates can use it by clicking on the calculator link. Candidates are advised to practice solving numerical questions on their own as using virtual calculators can take much time

  • UN Bodies (GK)
  • Important Awards (Current Affairs)
  • Legal Maxims (Legal Aptitude)
  • Criminal Law questions (Legal Aptitude)
  • Direction Problems (Logical Reasoning)
  • Blood Relations (Logical Reasoning)
  • Ratio and Proportion (Mathematics)
  • Percentages (Mathematics)
  • Cloze Test (English)
  • Idioms and Phrases (English)

These are topics where you can score marks easily in CLAT 2025 without putting in too much effort. By no means should you limit your study to them! For the remaining syllabus, here are some strategies you can use to prepare most effectively:

  • GK and Current Affairs – This is an ocean, and there is no limit to the amount you can study here. We have seen several students making the mistake of studying from UPSC-level books or going through all the NCERT textbooks of Class VI to X. Neither of these is necessary, nor is it practical in the remaining time to go through such a vast volume of material. Again, it would be much better to sign up for a good coaching programme and study along with what is taught in the classes there. Remember, even the best student would not be able to correctly answer more than 70-80% of the GK / Current Affairs portion, simply because it is so large and undefined.

  • Logical Reasoning (LR) If you are finding a certain topic hard to study or understand, it might be better to skip it. There are a few easy and high-scoring topics in LR that we have found most students understand easily. You should definitely score well on these topics. We have outlined them in the list above. In a given topic, remember to practice all the different variants of questions that have been asked in the exam.
  • Mathematics – CLAT has shown a trend of giving increasingly difficult questions in Mathematics, even introducing a couple of new topics in the previous years' papers, such as Permutations & Combinations and Probability. Our advice at this late juncture to students would be to not get worried by this – such questions will not be more than 3-5 in the entire paper. Instead, focus on the traditional favorites such as Time, Speed & Distance, Time & Work, Ratio & proportion etc. These are sure to come and are not very difficult to master. Each of them has only one basic formula, and all questions that are asked can be solved using that formula.
  • English – Reading Comprehension is going to form the bulk of the marks in this section, but do not neglect the easy marks that can be scored in Idioms & Phrases. Many students, even those with poor vocabulary, find this topic easy because several times the idioms are self-explanatory.

In the remaining days of the exam, every minute is precious – so remember to devote as much time as you can in a day to hard work and efficient studies. We wish you all the best!

Q:   What are the exam timings for CLAT 2025?

A:

CLAT 2025 exam timings was confirmed in admission notification. The CLAT exam was held from 2 pm to 4 pm. The duration of CLAT exam was two hours, and therefore, the exam authority scheduled exam on the same day for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. On the day of examination, candidates had to report at least an hour before the exam timings, so as to complete frisking and check seating plan at the test centre. Know all about exam day events and test timings here - https://www.shiksha.com/law/clat-exam-dates.

Q:   How to Check CLAT Merit List 2025?

A:

Step 1: Visit CLAT official website

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Notifications’ section

Step 3: Click on ‘CLAT 2025 Allotment List’ link

Step 4: View and download the CLAT allotment list 2025

Candidates must note that they can appear for CLAT Counselling 2025 only if there name is there in the merit list. CLAT counselling will be conducted in online mode. Candidates must appear for the counselling to get admission to one of the NLUs in the country.

Q:   Is there Maths in CLAT 2025?

A:

Yes, there is math in CLAT exam. The section carries 10 per cent weight. Scoring well in maths can give candidates big boost over competition. The CLAT syllabus for Quantitative Techniques  includes the following important highlights:

  • The section includes 13-17 questions in the exam
  • Unlike other sections, the Quantitative Techniques section includes short sets of facts, propositions, graphs or other textual, pictorial, diagrammatic representation of numerical information
  • Majority of the questions in the section are created specifically for the exam, however, few graphs and histograms are also derived from public sources such as the official website of Reserve Bank of India
  • The difficulty level of questions in the exam is of Class 10 level, however, the questions are more logic-based rather than formulae-based
  • Important topics on which Maths questions are based in the exam include:

CLAT Syllabus for Quantitative Techniques

Number Theory & Basic Arithmetic

Averages & Percentages

Ratio & Proportion

Mixtures & Allegations

Time & Work

Time, Distance & Speed

Fractions & Equations

The National Law University (NLU) admission prospects are slim in view of a CLAT rank of 7616 and an EWS rank of 640. Most of the NLU cut-off ranks tend to be exceptionally lower as compared to general category and EWS candidates, even in some of the most sought-after courses like BA LLB.

With 62.25 marks in the CLAT exam, your rank will likely vary depending on the difficulty level of the exam that year and the overall performance of other candidates. However, based on previous trends, a score of around 62.25 can typically place you in the range of 3000-5000 in the CLAT rankings.
