Candidates can start CLAT Preparation Strategy 2026 with the recommended books for each section as under:

Best CLAT Books for English and Reading Comprehension

As far as improving one’s vocabulary is concerned, Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis is considered the gold standard and is a time-tested classic, and is globally accepted as the go-to book to improve your vocabulary. However, it has to be remembered that it may not be possible to finish the whole book during your preparation, especially if it results in disturbing the proportion of time to be devoted to other sections. To avoid the same, what students can do is skip the theory parts of the chapters, and do the exercises given at the end of every chapter, with enough number of revisions.

In regards to rest of the English portion of the section, including grammar and Reading Comprehension, although there is no single trick or book, that can suddenly teach you all the tricks and make you an expert in grammar and reading, and the same depends a lot on your previous reading habits (both curricular and extra-curricular), but the CLAT Guide by Tata McGraw-Hill is a reliable source of study (albeit with a few mistakes here and there), particularly when there is limited time left to prepare for the examination.

Q:   Which are the best books for English to crack CLAT 2025?

A:

English sections of CLAT will test the reading, comprehension and basic grammar skills of the aspirants. Aspirants must focus on improving their reading skills while preparing for CLAT English section. Candidates should concentrate on grammar and vocabulary too. Candidates can check CLAT 2025 best books for English Language including comprehension here: English is Easy by Chetananand Singh,  Barron’s Pocket Guide to Vocabulary,  Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis,  Objective General English by RS Aggarwal, High School English Grammar and Composition by Wren & Martin.

Q:   Are NCERT books enough to complete the CLAT syllabus?

A:

Yes, NCERT books are sufficient to complete the CLAT syllabus. A number of past years' CLAT toppers have claimed that they referred only to NCERT books for preparation. NCERT text books act as the base to complete the syllabus and develop conceptual clarity and understanding of the topics and chapters. However, for practice purposes, students may refer to other books and resources as well. It is advised that while starting the CLAT preparation, candidates refer to the NCERT books and move towards other books and advance resources after that.

Q:   Which are the best books for CLAT 2025 General Knowledge and Current Affairs?

A:

CLAT 2025 general knowledge section is very important and questions are asked from history, geography, economy and environment. Candidates can easily prepare for CLAT GK section by reading the standard books. But for the current affairs, they are advised to religiously read the newspapers and monthly magazines. Apart from this, the CLAT Books for General Knowledge and Current Affairs that candidates can refer are: Pearson General Knowledge Manual,  Lucent’s General Knowledge,  Manorama Year Book,  India Year Book,  Competition Success Review,  Pratiyogita Darpan and Newspapers like: The Hindu,  The Indian Express,  The Telegraph.

Q:   Which are the best preparation books for CLAT 2025?

A:

Among all the books of CLAT 2025 in the world, first, go for the NCERT books. You must complete all the NCERT books first before moving to other reference books available in the market. After completing the NCERT books, you can go for the following books to boost up your practice and concepts: Universal’s LLB Entrance Guide, Lexis Nexis, Objective Arithmetic, GK Today, India Year Book and Analytical, Logical Reasoning by RS Aggarwal,  Word Power Made Easy,  Verbal Reasoning by RS Aggarwal,  Manorama Year Book and Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey.

In order to grasp the conceptual understanding of problems based on puzzles, blood relations, numbers, series, sets and arguments, the below-mentioned books would be extremely beneficial.

Best CLAT Books for General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This topic is very vast and there is no syllabus as such to study the same, and therefore preparing for this section is a never-ending task. Nevertheless, this should not deter a student from preparing as well as possible for the section.

  • For static General Knowledge (or simply General Knowledge), a student should prefer Lucent’s General Knowledge 2024, since this book contains condensed and accurate information on the topics. Another book to improve your knowledge on this section is General Knowledge 2024-25 by Tarun Goyal.
  • According to the trend, most questions in past few years in this section have been from Current Affairs, and to improve the same, it is advisable to read newspapers daily, preferably either The Hindu or Indian Express. Moreover, one can also find ample relevant material online, stick to well-known websites and publishers.
  • While studying for this section, the order of preference (from most relevant to least relevant) of an ideal candidate should be, Current Affairs, Indian Polity, Modern History, Economics, Geography, Ancient/Medieval History and Science.

Best CLAT Books for Quantitative Aptitude

Although this topic contains the least number of questions, nevertheless, it is important to make the best of this section. Students should not feel intimidated by this section, since topics that this section covers are from Class 10 and below. Quantitative Aptitude by RS Aggarwal should suffice in covering this section, and with enough practice, the Mathematics section can even turn out to be a bonus.

Best CLAT Books for Legal Reasoning

This section remains the most important of all the sections and includes questions pertaining both to legal reasoning and legal GK (which includes Legal Current Affairs, Static Legal Knowledge, and Legal vocabulary). Some recommended books are:

  • Universal’s Guide to CLAT LLB Entrance Examination,
  • Pearson’s Guide to the CLAT 2025,
  • Legal Awareness and Legal Reasoning for CLAT LLB Entrance Examinations.

Legal Maxims and terminology should be thoroughly studied and revised, since the number of such maxims and terms are limited, and questions are bound to be asked from among them.

Legal reasoning can be improved only with the constant practice since options will be very close to each other and, there will only be minute differences between the options, which can only be detected with regular practice.

Best CLAT Books for Logical Reasoning

This is another important topic with heavy weightage and is not to be neglected by any means. Continuous practice is very important in this topic, and some of the books, that will help prepare for this particular section are:

  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Aggarwal
  • Arihant’s A New Approach to Verbal and Analytical Reasoning.

This is one of the most scoring sections of the paper and the kind of questions where you can be certain about whether you answered the question correctly or not. However, logical reasoning questions also take time, hence, time management in dealing with these questions is important.

Also ReadCLAT 2026: How to approach questions in Logical Reasoning Section?

It is also worth mentioning that apart from the above-recommended books and sources, if aspirants choose to follow and refer to study material from other private institutions, then it is preferable to follow material from coaching institutions that exclusively cater to prepare students for CLAT and similar law entrance examinations exclusively.

Finally, it is important to remember that preparation for CLAT (or any competitive examination) is incomplete without going through relevant previous years’ CLAT question papers. This will give you a fair idea about what to expect in the examination and will help you streamline your preparation and focusing on relevant material and avoiding irrelevant material. Remember, the exam is a game, you are the player, and you have to collect as many points as possible to win the game!
