Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is one of the most sought-after universities in India to pursue courses in distance education mode. The university offers a plethora of courses to students under different streams such as Management, Science, Teaching, Engineering, Humanities, Mass Communication, Law, Visual & Performing Arts, Hospitality & Tourism, and more. The university offers these courses through its network of 56 Regional Centres (RC), 11 Recognized Regional Centres (RRC) and about 2,000 Learner Support Centres across the country. 

Admission to a majority of courses offered at IGNOU is done on the basis of marks secured by candidates in their qualifying exam (class 12th or graduation). However, IGNOU admission to a few popular courses is also done through entrance exams. Details of such courses and their IGNOU entrance exams are as mentioned below:

IGNOU OPENMAT

IGNOU Open MBA Admission Test (IGNOU OPENMAT) is a national-level exam conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide admission to eligible candidates in MBA/PGDM courses offered at the School of Management Studies, IGNOU. The IGNOU OPENMAT (also known as IGNOU MBA Entrance Test) is conducted twice a year in January and July. OPENMAT scores are valid for admission in the following two semesters. This means that OPENMAT score of the exam held in July 2019 will be valid for admission in semesters commencing from January 2020 and July 2020 also.    

IGNOU OPENMAT Eligibility: All candidates possessing a three-year bachelor degree in any discipline with minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) fulfill IGNOU OPENMAT eligibility criteria.

IGNOU OPENMAT Exam Pattern: IGNOU OPENMAT is a two-hour duration online test containing a total of 200 objective-type questions. Maximum marks that candidates can score in the exam are 200.

IGNOU BEd Entrance Test

IGNOU BEd Entrance Test is an all-India level exam conducted by NTA to provide admission to candidates in Bachelor of Education (BEd) course offered by IGNOU. The duration of IGNOU BEd course is minimum two and maximum five years. Medium of instruction of the IGNOU BEd programme is English and Hindi.

IGNOU BEd Eligibility: Candidates possessing a graduation/ post-graduation degree with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks (45 percent for SC/ ST/ OBC non-creamy layer/ PwD) meet IGNOU BEd Entrance Test eligibility criteria. Apart from this, candidates should also either be trained in-service teachers in elementary education or complete NCTE recognised teacher education programme in face-to-face mode. IGNOU BEd Entrance Test Pattern: IGNOU BEd Entrance Test is a two-hour duration exam of 100 marks conducted in online mode. The question paper is divided into two parts (part A and B) containing the following sections:
