Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a two-year postgraduate program pursued by candidates who have completed their graduation through a recognized university. Students who wish to enrol in an MCA program can secure admission through entrance exams such as NIMCET, BIT MCA Entrance exam, MAKAUT CET, TANCET, etc.

However, some State-level colleges also provide direct admission to MCA courses where the students have to clear the university’s merit-based examinations to enrol themselves into these colleges. Also, MCA courses can be pursued both in regular and distance modes which makes it convenient for working students to complete their higher studies simultaneously.

There are approximately more than 2,000 colleges in India that offer MCA Courses including 1400 private colleges and over 300 government colleges. Jawaharlal Nehru University, Gujarat University and Panjab University are some of the reputed MCA government colleges. Amity University, School of Computer Science (UPES) and VIT Vellore are some of the well-known MCA private colleges.

Course fees for MCA programs can generally range between INR 2000 to INR 7 lakh. The eligibility criteria for students to enrol in an MCA post-graduation degree is to secure a minimum of 50% aggregate in graduation from a recognized university.

MCA FAQs

Q. What are the benefits of pursuing an MCA course?

A. MCA or Master of Computer Application is a two-year advanced degree which is pursued at the postgraduation level. The biggest advantage of this course is that candidates can enter into the field of technical research and advanced application of principles of computer application. Candidates also get higher salary as compared to BCA graduates and they possess more technical expertise in the concepts of Computer Applications. They also learn certain specialisations of Computer Applications such as Machine Learning and Software Development.

Q. Is MCA offered by NITs?
