NEET PG 2020 Topper interview: Aman Agarwal (AIR 5)

Question: Congratulations Dr Agarwal. How are you celebrating your success?

Aman Agrawal: Thank you so much, I am overwhelmed. I cannot believe that I have achieved my goal, this feels like an imaginary moment! I celebrated my success with my friends yesterday. I will be meeting my family in a few days and look forward to sharing this joy with them.

Question: Can you tell us a little bit about your family?

Aman Agrawal: My hometown is Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Both my parents are doctors and have been my inspiration. They are the reason why I choose to become a doctor. I saw how they took care of the patients and how their patients reciprocated with great love and respect. I also have a sister who has been my strength and motivation. She used to teach me when I was younger, has always helped me and been there for me.

Question: In which year did you complete your MBBS degree course? Can you tell something about your college?

Aman Agrawal: I completed my MBBS from Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur. I took admission in the year 2014. I am currently an intern in the same college. My internship gets over in the month of March this year.

Question: When did you start preparing for NEET PG 2020? Were you enrolled with any coaching institute?

Aman Agrawal: NEET PG is not an examination that you can take by studying for a month or two. It is all the hard work that you put during the 5.5 years of the MBBS degree course that pays off. From reading the standard textbooks to giving the theory examinations, everything helps. In the last 9 months, I did give a boost to my preparation by practicing MCQs and mock tests. But getting a good rank in NEET PG requires hard work and there is no short cut here.

Question: Were you working during the preparation phase?

Aman Agrawal: Yes, I am currently pursuing my internship.

Question: What was your schedule during the preparation phase of NEET PG 2020? How many hours would you spare for self-study?

Aman Agrawal: I used to study for 8-10 hours in a day. To secure a good rank regularity is important more than the number of hours. For the past 9 months, I could hardly find time for anything else. I used to wake up early and go to the library every day. I used to spend most of my time in the library. I have friends who were preparing for NEET PG 2020 with me. We all studied in the library together which helped us. We also had a few fun moments during the day, which I think is necessary to keep you going.

Question: How did you balance your NEET PG preparation and your internship?

Aman Agrawal: You have to manage and make up for the time during the internship. I made my notes during the 4.5 years of my college, which helped me during my internship. I didn’t have to worry about making notes, I could simply revise from the ones that I had made earlier.

Question: Did you take any coaching for NEET PG 2020 preparation?

Aman Agrawal: Yes, I have attended Bhatia’s.

Question: One book that you feel is important for NEET PG preparation?

Aman Agrawal: You have 19 subjects in NEET PG. For every subject, there is one central book. For me, Robbins for Pathology was the most important.

Question: Which is the best source for NEET PG MCQs?

Aman Agrawal: I used an application called ‘Marrow’ for MCQs. Most of the students are using this app for NEET PG MCQs.

Question: Which subject was a challenge for you?

Aman Agrawal: Pharmacology! It is difficult to remember all those drugs, their classes, side effects, uses, etc. I gave more time to this subject and prioritised it.

Question: Which stream are you going to choose now? Any dream college?

Aman Agrawal: I am confused between Radiology and Medicine. But a part of me wants to do Radiology and become an interventional Radiologist. Maulana Azad Medical College would be my aim.

Question: Any advice to the future NEET PG aspirants?

Aman Agrawal: Be consistent at what you do and clear your concepts during the initial 4.5 years.
